Chapter 1

1990 Words
My day started off normal like any other day during summer did, l went to the palace library as I did each day in search of a new book to read. I had found a quite interesting book a few months ago. As I was searching through the rows and rows of old books I came across a book shelf at the very end of the hall where books stood that looked to be twice as old as the books I’ve seen previously when I went to take out a book that had faded writing on the cover, the book pulled out and the shelf itself started to move I was shocked and stepped away a bit for it to fully open.   So, as I saw the opening there was a dark tunnel then a small light at the end of it, I quickly stepped in to the tunnel closing the shelf behind me with the little lever that was mounted on to it. There where spiderwebs and bugs all over yet that wasn’t something that bothered me as I was too eager to get to the small light at the end.   As I moved forward the light seemed to grow until I was at the very start of it all. There in front of me stood an open room with books that seemed as if they were as old as time itself but that was not the only thing that had caught my attention, the thing that did though was the king and his adviser speaking or rather arguing about something in front of them. It was an open book with writing almost faded out, I couldn’t make out a word of what was being said other than hearing my family name and my name mentioned a few time then the king said something which sounded a lot like ‘you may not mention this to anyone.’ The adviser nodded his head in agreement and they started making their way out of the small room using a whole different path then I had when I came in here.   I waited in the shadows until I knew for sure they were gone and would not come back before I made my way to the table in the middle of the room. There still laying silent was the book they were talking over, I closed the book and read the title only making out a few letters as I did. The book was called ‘The Calling’ it was of the past.   So, I sat down with the book in front of me and started to read, it showed many things I have never heard of. Of a great king called Pall that ruled our lands long ago he had a dragon at his side one of kind rare dragon. His skin was a color of gold and shined whenever the sun smiled upon him, people could see his beauty from far away knowing it was there loving king. Yet this story also told of a wrong doing in the kingdom. That the thrown did not belong to this king yet it belonged to a person named Charles someone of a peasant family. The king found out of the man’s loving dragon egg and made a deal with the man to give him the egg and the man would be able to be the kings adviser. He was a fair king but once he had died of old age with the man’s dragon by his side, they were forgotten, the adviser by the name of Charles Brooke was forgotten along with the dragon rider king.   My eyes grew big when I read then last sentence of this page the man whose dragon it was came from my family. I was about to carry on reading when I heard sounds from the exit the king had used. I got up quickly taking the book with me trying not to make a single sound in which I had succeeded in doing.   This time I hid a bit closer to the table in hopes of hearing something the king had to say about the book. Yet he only walked to an object covered in robes and dust behind the table. When he pulled the robes of, I could see bones covered in gold it was shaped in a dragon form, it looked like the picture of the kings dragon called Vladitor. I’ve seen it earlier when reading the book. I was amazed by the bones that I didn’t notice the king had already left closing his exit behind him again.   In front of the bones was a bucket that said put in a valuable as an offer and make a single wish, I had nothing on me except the bow my father gotten me as a young girl. Taking the bow out of my hair and putting it into the bowl bending onto my knees Infront of the dragon bones I whispered my wish to him, “If I can only have one wish I would only ask this of you, bring back the dragons please?” I waited for something to happen only to be startled by the voice of the king behind me.   “What are you doing down here Elizabeth?” he asked me. “I am paying my respects to the wise dragon that once ruled alongside your ancestors shouldn’t you be doing the same thing?” I asked him my cheekiness getting the best of me. “Elizabeth-“I stopped him just as he was about to say his next sentence. “Lady Elizabeth, you may call me by that please King France.” I said with a roll of my eye walking away to the exit they used which led to the gardens behind the castle all the while him not noticing the book I was hiding behind my back.   As soon as I was out of the tunnel, I ran to my house climbing in trough my window to my room. I was tired from running all the way here while having a book that felt like it was a ton in weight. I closed my bedroom door just before I sat down and took a breather, after a couple of moments I composed myself and opened the book once more this time the middle of the book there it showed all the different types of dragons and riders that use to exist, I was amazed by the wide verity of dragons that differed from fire, water, electricity, ice, earth, wind though they had descriptions of their powers and the way they looked and so on. The two that caught my attention was Ice and electricity whereas they had no description there was only a blank space.   I was confused and wanted to know more about these dragons and their riders, so I paged back to the beginning of the book and read on from there. I read that the kingdom originally consisted of 6 parts which would be the elements the dragons that each element had a ruler over them and then the kingdom had a ruler overall which in that time was the Robinson family that still ruled to this day. It was said that the ruler that came after king Pall tried to destroy all 5 of the element kingdoms in order to be a more power full ruler. They said that the battle went on for most of his life until the very end and he had taken down all 5, the ice and electricity kingdom was not as big as the other elements cause of their rareness, so he destroyed some of the very last that where ever to be born.   After their defeat most of the Dragons and riders fled and never came back.   I looked at the pages with amazement not knowing what to do I just kept reading up until I stumble upon a page near the end of the book the page was titled ‘Riders Mark’ it only showed of a man with a mark on his left shoulder the mark was simple yet complex well in a way. I examined it closely it looked like a line swirled around as if to create a world pool so without thinking much of it I got up and walked over to my body length mirror exposing my left shoulder so I could see and there it was the mark exactly the same as in the book. My hands went up to my mouth as if trying to cover the big gasp I just took eyes wide open with shock as I looked at the mark. My right hand shaking for an unknown reason as my fingertips neared my shoulder and then a blinding blue light filled my whole room causing me to let out a frightened scream.   I heard my mom rush up the stairs so just before she opened the door, I covered my left arm and looked at her.   “Elizabeth are you alright??” She asked me concern written all over her face. “There was a rat in my room just now, I tried to kick it but it attacked my feet” I said fake crying on my mother’s shoulder. “Don’t worry dear I’ll get the cleaning servants to see if they can find the stupid rat but, in the meantime, could you please get dressed in a dress were going to the palace tonight for dinner.” She said and I had fear in me that they would see my arm of I wore a dress.   “Mother it’s quite cold out tonight could I please just wear normal pants and a vest?” I asked in hope giving my mom the best puppy dog eyes ever.   She let out a heavy sigh but said yes nonetheless and walked out of my room closing the door after her. Just as she was gone hearing her heals hit on our wood staircase. I pulled my vest off my shoulder again seeing that the mark had gotten brighter now and it’s a light blue color now. I didn’t know what to think the book had no more info as to what the change in color meant.   Nightfall came faster than expected I was already dressed ready to go when mother eventually called me from downstairs that we need to come, Victoria and I opened our doors at the same time looking at each other as we walked out of our rooms. My other two siblings Harry and Liam our older brothers came down the hall dressed just as I am. Victoria looked at us as if we were trash and walked down the stairs with a sway in her steps.   I looked at my bothers as if to ask what had just happened, they just lifted their shoulder surging to my question. I shook my head walking down the stairs with my brothers walking behind me as if they were knights protecting me from something, which was probably nothing and just my imagination running away with me.   Just as we opened the door there was the two princes waiting for us Nicholas and Daniel the oldest prince taking my sisters hands and giving her a hug and prince Daniel taking my hand bowing down kissing the top of my hand then releasing it and giving me a smile.   We all walked together as we neared the palace entrance the wind started to pick up and I felt light headed then without any warning a darkness came over me and I passed out. Last thing I remember is seeing prince Daniel by my side in no time catching me as I fell.
