Holding my suitcases, I realized I was at the airport.
“Heh, Richard Adjei... Look at you! I can’t believe my eyes. It’s so good to see you after so many years. How are your dad and brother? Where is your mother?” Aunt Kokui said mechanically.
“Oh, everyone is fine. My mom had to cancel at the last minute. She said she’d call and explain,” I said, taken aback after hearing the Ghanaian middle name my father would call me when speaking to his Ghanaian friends.
“Oh, I hope everything is all right. With Aunt Qualey’s funeral, we thought we’d be seeing her,” Aunt Kokui said in a higher pitch of concern.
“Everything’s fine,” I said, trying to reassure her and myself.
“Well, since you
