In her mind’s eye, she was taken back to the banks of the Clearwater. Cool, fresh, clear water, flowing freely down the mountain in the crisp fall air. It made her all the more thirsty. Any delay now seemed like a waste of time, but she stayed her course behind Talon. Talon began picking up other stones and checking them for weight and hardness. The ones he thought to be gold he stuffed into the oversized pockets of his buckskin pants. The dry creek bed was littered with nuggets. Everywhere he checked he found more on the surface and in the sand. Aggie waited impatiently for as long as she could stand it. “Talon,” she finally said, “I hate to interrupt, but can we just get to that water.” Talon was as thirsty as Aggie, but this was an unbelievable find. “But it’s gold Aggie,” he said.
