Chapter 10 Silent Messenger The sun lifted off the eastern peaks of distant mountains and was soon reflecting off the snow bright and warm. In less than an hour, what little snow that had fallen during the night was melted away leaving only the half frozen grass and rocks to track the horses in. Most of the wolf tracks were gone entirely or only rarely discovered. A mile into the search the tracks looked as if the horses had stopped running and were just lined out in a less panicked travel pattern. No sign of the wolves could be seen at all. “Looks like they’re in a trot,” said Louie. “Looks like it, said Tom. I seen horses go for miles like that, never stop for anything.
