PROLOGUE
Marcus and Thea’s wedding was the event everyone was waiting for. It was eventful, so to speak. But things weren’t supposed to go down like that. Gianna has long learned that things do not exactly go as planned or how you would like them to. Expectations often lead to disappointment—though in this case, not always. It might’ve started with someone else’s happy ending, but this is her story. — Nervous—that one word pretty summed up what she was feeling. Going back for this wedding meant she had to face everyone again. But she was glad she’s not about to go through it alone. “You ready?” “Almost.” Gianna looked up as she zipped her luggage. “Is Zari?” “Yah, they’re loading our stuff up.” “They? Who’s they?” Lilly was hesitant to answer, and she had a pretty good guess why. “…Charles.” Gianna shook her head, with a disapproving look present on her face. “When you said someone was gonna drive us, I did not—even the least—expect that it’s gonna be your…whatever he is.” “At least he’s willing to drive us?” she smiled apologetically. “Whatever, let’s go.” — “Are you ready?” “You know you’ve asked me that question twice now.” she replied with an exasperated sigh. “Well, we just wanna know.” said Zari. Gianna rolled her eyes and raised her eyebrows at her cousin. “You too, huh?” she waved her hands in the air. “I am. We’re here, see?” “You know that’s not what we mean.” “Yeah? I don’t know? Maybe? Jesus! it’s a bit crazy cos I will feel the awkwardness, but he won’t. So we’re okay but at the same time not—and he doesn’t know that! And it’s not like we’re not gonna cross paths at the wedding cos he’s the best man and I’m the maid of f*****g honour! It’s basically unfuckingavoidable! So what d’you think?!” she replied hysterically. Gianna knew she just had a somewhat of a nervous breakdown; but it helped a bit in calming her nerves. Zari and Lilly placed their hands on Gianna’s shoulder, rubbing her back for support. “Okay, okay, just calm down.” “If only.”
