Chapter one
Chapter One — A New Beginning
People began to question my name. Initially, I never understood its deeper meaning. My grandmother gave me the name Bamidele. She was the only child of her parents, and when my mother gave birth to me, she named me Bamidele.
I never loved the name, but circumstances eventually made me love it.
I am the only child and daughter of my wealthy parents. I lost my parents at the age of eight. They were among the most influential people in the country.
One day, I came back from school and found their dead bodies lying cold on the floor, surrounded by a pool of blood. I screamed and broke down in tears.
"How can I live without my parents?" I thought.
Overwhelmed by grief, I ran into the bush and jumped into a river. But something strange happened.
I suddenly realized that I had transformed into a mermaid.
"What is happening to me?" I asked, even though there was no one around.
Suddenly, I heard a voice inside my head.
"Bamidele, you are human, but you are also a mermaid."
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I am Selena, your mermaid. You also have a guardian angel. You were born into this world with a purpose and a great mission ahead of you. Be strong and face the difficulties that lie ahead."
"What should I do?" I asked her.
"Firstly, go back to your parents' house. Check the CCTV footage and find out who killed your parents. You also need to live here and practice your abilities. You can do this in the city, but you must be careful not to raise suspicion about yourself."
"Okay," I said reluctantly.
I stood up and went back to the city. While I was there, I saw three men with snake tattoos on their arms.
I quickly copied the CCTV files onto my phone and returned to the forest.
As I began building my shelter, I felt so sad because I was completely alone. No parents. No friends. Just me and the invisible beings around me.
I encouraged myself and asked Selena what I should do next.
"You need to practice magic, self-defense, and combat skills. You will start tomorrow. Rest today," she told me.
I nodded sadly and fell asleep.
