Sweet Soul
Once upon a time, there was a golden retriever named Max, who loved nothing more than running around in the park, chasing after frisbees, and coaxing belly rubs from his owner. But one day, something strange happened. As he was out for a walk, he suddenly felt a funny tingling sensation all over his body- and before he knew it, he was no longer a dog, but a human boy!
At first, Max was frightened by this sudden transformation. He'd never been a human before- and he had no idea how to act like one! However, as he timidly explored the city streets, he soon realized that he had some very new and exciting abilities thanks to his human form. For one thing, he could talk now- and think in complete, complex sentences! For another, he could appreciate things that he never had before- like the way the sun glinted off towering skyscrapers or the way the hustle and bustle of the city filled his senses with thrilling energy.
But the best part of becoming a human, Max soon discovered, was meeting people- especially one particular person named Lila. Lila was Max's director in the local community theatre, and she was beautiful- with long, lustrous curls of auburn hair and sparkling eyes that seemed to look right into Max's soul. As he talked to her, Max felt his heart skip a beat- and he knew that he was falling in love.
With Lila's help, Max began to navigate his way through the strange world of humans. He learned how to eat at a table- although he still preferred scarfing down treats from the floor- and how to read books and work on puzzles. But more than anything, he loved spending time with Lila- talking to her about her dreams and hopes, laughing at jokes that only they understood, and exploring the city together.
As the days went by, Max began to realize- with a sinking feeling in his chest- that he couldn't stay a human forever. Eventually, he knew he would have to go back to being a dog- and would never be able to see Lila again. But even though his heart ached, Max knew that he would cherish the memories of his time with Lila- and that he would always remember the love he felt for her, even as a simple golden retriever.
In the end, though, Max didn't have to stay a human for long. One day, as he was sleeping in Lila's arms, he felt a strange jolt of electricity shoot through his body- and when he opened his eyes, he was a dog once again. But this time, as he wagged his tail and licked Lila's face, he knew that he would always have a piece of her with him- a piece of the world that he never could have imagined before he became a human boy.
The end.
