Chapter 38 I Can Give It to You

1281 Words
The three of them didn’t speak and didn’t even dare to breathe. They just quietly looked at the Iron Credential for Forgiveness in front of them as if they were admiring something very beautiful. From time to time, they rubbed their sore and dry eyes due to long-time focusing. Vincent found it a bit funny, thinking to himself, “Seriously? Do you have to look at it so carefully?” After a long while, Thorne said with a trembling voice, “Yes, yes, yes, that’s it...” “Is it, Mr. Elliot?” Mr. Grey asked. “Yes, I’m sure...” Thorne nodded his head, checked something on his phone, and then grabbed an exquisite and sealed box from the high-end briefcase he carried with him. The box was wrapped in yellow brocade. Mr. Grey also wore the white silk gloves, took the box over, slowly opened the brocade, and then the box. The latter was made of some kind of unknown metal. At first glance, one could tell that it was very old and mottled with patina on it. Inside it, however, was an old booklet made of silk cloth. Thorne put his hands together, closed his eyes, and muttered something to these in front of him. Vincent didn’t catch what he said, but heard “ancestors...” Immediately afterward, Vincent saw Thorne gently put down the silk cloth booklet, which had something painted on it. Vincent didn’t understand. But he saw clearly that one thing drawn on it looked exactly like the Iron Credential for Forgiveness, even the positions of the gems and the font on it were almost exactly the same. Vincent was stunned. Thorne and Mr. Grey immediately clapped their hands in excitement and hugged each other, “Oh! That’s it! I can finally honor my ancestors!” The two of them even had a faint sign of weeping with joy. Martin also nodded happily and then smiled at Vincent. “May I ask what is this about?” Vincent was in a daze. “Oh, Vincent, please forgive us. Mr. Elliot just found his family heirloom, and he is a little excited...” Vincent was taken aback. A family heirloom?! “A little excited?!” Thorne patted Martin on his thigh and shook his head. “I’m more than excited! I’m overjoyed! You have no idea how much my family and Mr. Grey had done in the past few years. We searched all over the country, and then the overseas...” “Indeed!” Mr. Grey also nodded, “We even traced back to the late 19th century...” “Alas, after all those efforts you made, it is right here in our city!” Chairman Martin sighed. “Tell me about it!” Thorne took a deep breath and nodded. He then looked around and finally fixed his gaze on Vincent. “Vincent, my dear friend! I know it’s kind of rude and impolite, but still, I have to ask you this.” “What is it?” Vincent nodded. “Is there any chance... that you may sell it to me? You name the price, my friend! Anything I have, just name it. It’s a family heirloom, and you have no idea what it means to my family.” Before Thorne finished speaking, Vincent hurriedly patted his hands, “Mr. Elliot, is... is it really your family heirloom??” “Yes, yes! As you see just now...” Thorne pointed to the stuff in front of him, especially the silk cloth booklet, “All of these are my family heirlooms since the year of 960...” “Oh, my god!” Vincent suddenly slapped his thigh, and pointed to Thorne in a daze, “Elliot, Elliot, Elliot... Yes, that’s right, Mr. Elliot. Your surname is Elliot! Isn’t the Iron Credential for Forgiveness for...” “It cost you such a long time to realize this? The king rewarded this to the Elliot clan since he got his throne from them. Though that’s not glorious to say, the king had made this to make up... well, you know. There are also many heroes in his clan...” “I know! I know! Oh, my gosh, I remember it!” Vincent also clapped his hands excitedly, “Oh! What a coincidence! I didn’t expect that the descendants of the Elliot clan would be here. What a pity you’ve been separated from it for such a long time.” “Tell me about it. That’s also part of the reason why I’m fond of antiques for so many years!” Thorne said with a smile, and then looked at Vincent with a serious face. “Vincent, please, sell it to me! I’m not up to its value or trying to trade it again. I’m just...” “Vincent, man, name your price and sell it to Mr. Elliot, will you? Mr. Grey has told us that you didn’t sell it when someone offered 40 million in the antique firm. I may not know what you have in mind, but I do wish...” “Vincent!” Mr. Grey also held his hands towards Vincent. “No, no!” Vincent hurriedly waved his hands and shook his head. The three of them were taken aback, especially Thorne. He was so anxious that he moved toward Vincent and was about to lean forward. “Vincent, do you want me to kneel you for this?!” “Vincent!” Martin also looked worried. “Don’t. Please, don’t do this!” Vincent rushed to Thorne in a stride, held the latter with both hands, and supported him up. “Mr. Elliot, Martin, and Mr. Grey, please don’t get me wrong. I didn’t say no because I’m unwilling to sell but because you don’t have to ask.” Vincent paused for a second and then continued, “Now that it’s a family heirloom, and Mr. Elliot values it that much as a family treasure, why should I still keep it to myself? I can give it to you actually. Here you are.” As Vincent said so, he put the Iron Credential back into the box and put it in front of Thorne. “What???” The three of them looked at the thing in front of them with an incredulous expression, and then at Vincent. They all froze there for a while! “Vincent, you... you... you...” Martin couldn’t even make a sound at this time. “Vincent, you... you are really... Uh!!!” Thorne’s eyes rolled as if he couldn’t stand the irritation and fell back directly. Mr. Grey and Martin hurried to support him in astonishment and pinched his philtrum directly. “Uh! Ah! Whoo!” Thorne shivered all over as he was awakened, and then he struggled to stand straight. “Vincent, you... You just gave this to me for free??!!!” Vincent nodded, “Mr. Elliot, please, take it easy and calm down. Let’s not turn a good thing into a bad, alright? I don’t take this as a big deal. And I know you are not lacking in money, but it’s not about money. It just seems like the right thing to do for me. Just take it as a recognition of our friendship, I guess.”
