Chapter 22 The Beauty Beside Him

“Because I am... a matrilocal son-in-law,” Vincent answered casually. “What?! A matrilocal son-in-law?!” Howard was taken aback, looking Vincent up and down for a long while in disbelief, “You are not kidding? A genius doctor who knows Chairman Martin is a matrilocal son-in-law?! Do you have to?” Vincent rolled his eyes speechlessly and looked at Howard as if saying “it’s not your business”. After a pause, Vincent suddenly thought of something and asked, “Speaking of which, Chairman Martin... which organization is he served in?!” “What?!” Howard didn’t expect such a question, “You seem quite close to him, but you don’t know his background?!” “I didn’t know him for long. After saving his father accidentally, we... I didn’t think it’s proper to ask him in person...” Vincent rubbed his head. “I see!” Whether Howard understood it or not, he then told Vincent secretly, “Man, you are lucky to know such a powerful man. He is No. 1 in the Chamber of Commerce!” Howard thumbed up. Vincent was stunned. Chamber of Commerce? Was it supposed to be impressive and powerful? “You don’t know that?! Don’t underestimate the Chamber of Commerce! It gathers all the bosses in the city. Besides, his biological brother is the chief of the Municipal Public Security Bureau!” “Almost the same as I guessed.” Vincent pretended to be calm and nodded, but he was shocked inwardly. He looked at Howard and asked, “So, what’s this talk for? If you want to apologize, that won’t be necessary. After all, I kicked you just now... And I’m sorry, too.” “It’s okay. I deserved it. I went too far just now.” Howard reflected. Vincent nodded. The fat man seemed not as hateful, arrogant, and ridiculous as he had thought before. “As Chairman Martin said just now... I got you here because... my wife is ill. A strange illness actually. She’s like being crazy all day long, but I don’t even know what’s going on... So, I’m here today to invite the doctors from the Kendrick Clinic to have a meal. But...” Vincent saw the sincere expression on Howard’s face, “So, you want me to have a check on her?” “Yes, you’ve read my mind! I’m afraid that the doctors of the Kendrick Clinic won’t be able to treat her. Also, Chairman Martin spoke highly of your skills, so...” Howard patted his chest as he said so, “Don’t worry, man. I’m not lacking in money. As long as you can cure my wife. You name the price! Also...” Vincent pressed Howard’s hand before he finished, “You are... a gang member, aren’t you?” “Um!” Howard froze for a moment, thinking to himself that Vincent might despise or would refuse to treat those from the gangs, so he nodded in shame, “Yes... and no! I work in real estate, not one of the drug dealers, gamblers, or the like.” “I didn’t mean that.” Vincent nodded, “I’m just curious that a man like you always tends to spend more time in the clubs, having drinks and enjoying beauties. Loving and caring for their wives isn’t something most of them would do.” “I do go to the clubs and spend my time there, but that’s all fake. I used to be poor, but my wife is always there for me. Now we finally have a better life, I want nothing bad for her. Just now, I was irritable because of her illness as well, so I vented improperly.” “Okay! For your love to her, I’ll help you with this. And don’t mention money anymore.” Vincent nodded, “Now that you’ve invited those from the Kendrick Clinic, entertain them as you should. Call me if they failed. Here is my number.” Vincent took a piece of paper money on the counter and wrote a number to Howard. “Thank you, man! Thanks a lot!” Howard took Vincent’s number with both hands, nodded and bowed, and then said to the waiter at the counter, “You see my brother? His box is on me! No matter what they have ordered, provide them the best.” “As you wish, Mr. Clarke!” The person in charge nodded hurriedly. “Vincent, enjoy your dinner first. I’ll come over to toast in a while.” Howard said respectfully before he and his men went upstairs. Vincent also returned to the box. Sitting back in his seat, he found Carl still unfriendly. Compared to him, Karen and other relatives’ complexions had bettered a bit, at least they no longer regarded him as a loser. After all, Chairman Martin seemed to be powerful and influential. And since he was close to the former, this relationship would be useful even if Vincent himself was a loser! Karen and Natalie knew the identity of Chairman Martin, but other relatives didn’t. Therefore, they asked directly or indirectly about him. “Vincent, who was the leader just now?” “Vincent, are you so familiar with that leader?!” “Shall we invite him to have a meal when we got the time? We need to maintain our connections.” “Right, yes!” Vincent agreed casually. At this time, he happened to sense Clare’s gaze on himself, so he looked toward her. Clare was blushed. This graceful and charming girl was so cute. In terms of appearance... well, she was far more beautiful than Lora... Why the hell was he still thinking of Lora anyway? “Auntie Karen, your friends next to our box... are they okay?” Vincent asked. “Um... they asked me to thank you...” Karen was a bit delighted, feeling satisfied that Vincent honored her. After all, every family had been comparing with others since childhood: the children’s health, study, their schools, spouses, works, family backgrounds... Probably humans got evolved during the process. When they began to talk nicely, Senior Mr. Quincy and Matthew came back and sat in the main seats. “Vincent, my grandson-in-law! Why are you sitting so far?! Come and sit next to Grandpa. Sit beside Clare!” Senior Mr. Quincy finally discovered that Vincent was sitting at the end of the door. “It’s okay, Grandpa! I’m fine sitting here!” Vincent hurriedly waved his hands. He had been sitting there for a while anyway! “Come here! How can a couple sit apart?! The more unfamiliar you are, the more you should spend time together!” Senior Mr. Quincy stared at him and patted the seat next to Clare. “Uh, guess I have to follow your order.” Vincent nodded, and then went around before he sat between Senior Mr. Quincy and Clare. A waft of pristine fragrance greeted Vincent’s nose and it smelt good. The graceful and hot beauty beside him was so seductive that Vincent couldn’t help acting restlessly and unnaturally. “What’s wrong with you?! You got a louse on you or something!” Natalie was sitting next to Clare, rolling her eyes against Vincent. “No, no...” Vincent shook his head. When he took a peek at Clare, he found her face red as well. Did they just happen to feel the same? The door of the box was opened, and the person in charge served the dishes personally. The first dish was a plate of red Australian lobsters. Then two bottles of red wine were served, which were quite expensive. “Hey? Is this the wrong dish you served? We... we didn’t order this!” Matthew, who was sitting on the other side of Senior Mr. Quincy, asked hurriedly. “Sir, Mr. Clarke told us to serve you this! His treat!” The person in charge smiled.
