Chapter 4: Saving the Old Man

1504 Words
“Ouch!” The old man, Mr. Martin’s father, screamed even more louder than before, writhing on the bed in pain, interrupting the futile argument between the dean and Mr. Johnson.   “No, no, that is of course not the case, Mr. Martin! We have more machines! But... but something is wrong with those machines for the time being, so...” The dean smiled apologetically. “Something is wrong? Then why bother to bring my father here? Are you kidding me?” Chairman Martin was pissed. “No, no, Chairman Martin, don’t worry. I believe your father...” Mr. Johnson was stammering away, attempting to explaining. Chairman Martin shook his head immediately, “Don’t call me that. Right now, I am just an unfilial son who cannot even ease my father’s pain because of you stupid lot!”   “Son...” The old man called out weakly, his face full of cold sweat. He covered his abdomen with one hand, and pulled on his son’s sleeve with the other, “Don’t say that... I am fine... I can endure this! Just listen to the doctor.” “Dad!” Chairman Martin shook his head sadly and fumbled with his dear father’s hand, “Dad, hold on, I’ll take you to another hospital.” As Chairman Martin was talking, he summoned his men to transfer his father to another hospital.   “Wait a minute!” A young voice suddenly sounded; a young man who looked kind and professional walked out of the ward and came to the door, wearing a medical gown.   It was Vincent.   “Huh? What are you doing? Are you calling us?” Chairman Martin paused, looking at Vincent. The dean frowned to see a young man, apparently one of the hospital patients. He felt like he had seen him somewhere before. Well, of course, they had met before! Vincent had been an intern at the hospital after all!   “Yes, I am!” Vincent nodded. He did not know what made him get up and think about using his ‘power’ on the poor old man who, obviously, was in so much agony. As before when he used it on Mr. Johnson, a higher power made him get up from the bed and call out to Mr. Martin.   Vincent practiced the power of decomposition from his eyes to see through the old man’s abdomen from the skin texture and the gap between the flesh and blood. Vincent was in shock and surprise as he observed small white crystals and stones all over his kidney, renal pelvis, ureter, bladder, and the end of his prostate! Not to mention the pain and swelling, a large amount of urine and body fluids were blocked around the lower abdomen. In that case, there was an urgent need to unclog the stones from his body, or he would be in serious internal bleeding at any time, possibly leading to organ failure! “Hurry, get him in the OR!” Vincent beckoned them hurriedly!   “Huh?” The dean and Chairman Martin were confused. Before they realized what was happening, Mr. Johnson turned to Vincent and pointed an accusing finger at him. “Vincent, what are you doing? Who do you think you are? Stand away!” “What?” Vincent glanced at Mr. Johnson, and then sneered without looking at him, “You’d better take care of your pants before you talk, Mr. Johnson!” “You rat!” Mr. Johnson flushed in anger.   “And you are?!” Chairman Martin looked at Vincent with interest, “What do you mean, young man?” Vincent spoke up, “Based on my judgment, your father has serious calculi deposits in his excretion system, especially around the urethra excretion, which caused the urinary nerve and the vagus to be severely compressed. As a result, a large amount of body fluid has congested his abdomen, which is almost reaching the limit.”   Mr. Martin’s eyes widened in shock. “Yes, you are right! My dad has had stones for years!” He nodded suddenly, “But it was not that serious before. Why is he...?” “I don’t know, eating some kind of food with high uric acid or the like in the past few days. Not important though. Now that he has become like this, he cannot bear anything more. So, do not move him!” Vincent said solemnly. “Ah! If so, then... then get ready for the unclogging surgery. Hey, you, hurry up!” Upon hearing the diagnosis, the dean enjoined the doctors’ conversation hurriedly.   “Don’t! His congestion is too bad that the traditional method will not work! Also, you do not have time for that! Let me do it!” Vincent explained as he looked at Chairman Martin sincerely. “If you trust me, please push your father in!”   Chairman Martin was stunned, looking up and down at Vincent. Vincent was not sure what made him agree and think Vincent was a reliable man, with him standing there barefoot in a hospital gown, but Chairman Martin suddenly nodded, “Of course I do! I do not know what you do for a living! But I trust in my instinct!” As Chairman Martin spoke, he gently pushed the pulley bed into Vincent’s ward.   Mrs. Brown and the others inside the room hurriedly gave the way without question. They could easily tell from Chairman Martin’s identity and the urgency of the dean and deputy director that he was someone of high stature. Such a senior leader was not someone they could afford to offend!   The dean and Mr. Johnson, however, stopped the bed in a hurry, saying cautiously while glancing over at Vincent, “Chairman Martin, is this... Is it appropriate to do so? How about we run a test first?” “A test for what? My dad has always been affected by stones and he has been examined here for how many times!? But now you are telling me to run another test? What if in that time, the stones take my father’s life?!” Chairman Martin pointed at Vincent as he said, “I don’t know who this young man is, and I don’t care why he is hospitalized here. He just took a glance at my father and then told me about the disease. And that is enough to show he is better and more competent than you!” While speaking, Chairman Martin pulled their hands away, pushed the bed into the ward, and grasped Vincent’s hand next, “Young man! Please, I’ll have to count on you! I’ll be grateful even if you can just buy him some time so that I can transfer him to a larger, better hospital.”   Vincent patted his hand and nodded, indicating him not to worry. And then he walked to the bed and looked down at the old man shaking in pain, performing the power of decomposition on his eyes to check the old man again. Finally, he knew what to do.   “Go! Get a 1L drainage bag!” Vincent looked at Mr. Johnson and ordered urgently. “What? Now you are giving orders to me?” Mr. Johnson stared at Vincent with hatred. “Just do it! Who else should he give orders to?! Aren’t you the doctors here?” Chairman Martin roared back. “I, I...” Mr. Johnson was lost for words, “Why do you want...want a drainage bag? A drainage catheter is more suitable.” “Why do you have to ask?! Do the surgery if you can!” Chairman Martin stared at him. “Just go, hurry!” The dean urged. “Okay, okay...” Mr. Johnson nodded and bowed out with a sullen expression. Soon, he returned, holding a plastic drainage bag in his hand.   “Hold this. You’ll need it to receive your father’s urine after a while.” Vincent took the bag and handed it to Chairman Martin. “Okay, I got this!” Chairman Martin took the bag in his hand immediately and squatted respectfully near the lower abdomen of his father as if he was ready to do it at any time. “Seriously Vincent? This will help him pee?” Mr. Johnson held up his pants and said contemptuously. “You are really a fool!” He muttered.   Hearing this, Chairman Martin turned his head and glowered at him, which shocked the latter. Vincent did not care about his words and patted the old man lightly, “Uncle, listen to me, turn your body sideways.” “Oh... alright...” The old man nodded, gritted his teeth with a painful expression, and slowly turned his body sideways.
