Benjamin’s POV

(that evening before the nightmares)

“Come on pups, time for bed” Axel says to his youngest.

“But dad, I want a Story” whines his precious little angel Gabriela “All right, just one. Which one would you like to hear?“ she turns to me, huge deep green puppy eyes looking at me “Uncle B, please tell me the story of the Fairy princess and the wolf soldier!”

My heart stops for a second, I breath deeply and look over at my lovely wife. She doesn’t know I’ve been telling all the kids this bedtime story, for years. Keeping her memory alive, it hurts. But I still want to remember.

Esme’s POV

“Once upon a time, in a time from before the accords. Humans had decided to wage a war on our kind. The wolves of many pack, signed an alliance and together marched to the Fae Woods. A wolf guard was tasked with sentinel duty. He quietly crawled close to the human camp, in his wolf form

and gather as much intel as he could, and that’s how he found out their secret! There was a rogue wolf on the human side, who was betraying his own kind. he smelled the wolf guard and alerted the humans of his presence. He started running towards the town, but as I reached a clearing at the edge of the town, near a river he was overcome by an overwhelming need to stop. He sniffed the air and it smelled of Spring in the middle of Winter, how strange. He changed direction and started following the smell. He reached a beautiful waterfall and that’s when he saw her. An angel in his eyes. He sniffed the air again and growled, He knew what had made him stop and change direction. He had just found his mate. He changed back in his human form, forgetting he’d be naked. All he wanted to do was get closer to her. Run his hand through her beautiful long wavy hair. It reminded him of a stream of wheat grass, ready for harvesting. He stepped over a branch and it broke, giving away his position. Startled she turned around and upon seeing him she instantly relaxed, she too had recognized him as her other half. He neared her and remembered he was running away from the human soldiers so he took her in his arms, bridal style and was about to sprint towards the town. But, as if reading his mind, she shook her head and pointed to the waterfall “I live behind the falls” the angel spoke and up the fall’s wall he climbed with her in his arms.”

Flashback

“What’s your name?” “Bloom…why are you naked?” I gently place her near the back on top of a bundle of blankets, and realize I shifted back in my human form but haven’t dressed. How do I tell her “ehrm, I…. I was, uhm” “oh Goddess, you are a wolf” she gasped and jumped a little behind, pressing her back to the rocky wall of the cave…ugh that hurt, my mate is afraid of me “I would never bring you harm, I promise. You can trust me” She looks me straight into my eyes and her posture softens. “why would she do this? Why would she pair us together?” she whispers, more to herself than actually talking to me “so you know?” I ask her “you know. That you are mine and I yours. That the Moon Goddess has seen it. That we were made for each other?” she simply nods her head and reaches her hand out to touch me. The tips of her fingers barely reach me but I feel the sparks, it feels so strange, but it feels so right. I really want to kiss her, but I don’t want to scare her away. So I sit still, it take all the will power I possess not to launch at her. But I don’t. I let her hand roam over my body. That is until she reaches my left hand and notice my ring finger. “you’re married?” Oh no! How could I forget to tell her.
