C-1: Good Student
"Miss Mendoza, you are late again!" said the man with thick glasses. His eyebrows met the woman who had come rushing in.
"Sorry, Sir!" the woman apologized.
"Okay, sit down!" the professor replied firmly.
The girl smiled and quickly sat down in her seat then took a deep breath. She quickly took out her notebook and pen then started writing. She shook her head up and down because her neck and head seemed to be aching.
"Okay! Listen everyone, we have an exam tomorrow if you are late I will not give you a test, understood?" said Mr. Ariel Gomez, their professor for the subject of Science.
The girl frowned then she just ignored what their Professor said.
"Miss Fruit, are you listening?" the teacher asked the girl.
"Yes!" was the only answer the girl gave.
"Very good! Okay, that's it! Review and good luck on your exam tomorrow!" said Mr. Gomez.
Everyone stood up at the same time and said goodbye to their teacher. Strawberry breathed a sigh of relief and sat down again weakly. Her friends immediately came to her.
"Hey, girl, what happened to you? Why are you late?" Missy asked.
"As usual, I'm from Blossoms Cafè!"
"You're always being teased by a gay Professor," Hansel said laughing.
"I'm used to that gay Professor!"
The three of them laughed. They were three friends, and she was the only poor child. What was even worse was that Strawberry had no parents. Her aunt, a gambler and alcoholic, took her in. So she had no choice but to support herself. She was brave in all things because for her, there was no room for weakness in a poor person like her. And what's even funnier is that her name is named after a fruit. That's why she's nicknamed, sweet and fruit. Sweet to those who know her, fruit to her teachers at school.
"Let's go to the canteen," Missy's offered.
"Ahm, you guys go, I'm still full!" Strawberry refused.
Hansel patted the girl's forehead.
"You're lying again! Your alibi is already ruined, fruit!"
"Come on, my trip!" Missy's offered said again.
Strawberry had nothing to do but watch her friends. Her two friends were still noisy when they arrived at the canteen. As soon as they sat down, Strawberry immediately noticed the stares of Miel Ramirez's group, someone had liked her for a long time. But it had no effect because of his arrogance, he was a rich kid.
"Your prince charming, staring at you!" Missy whispered.
She nudged the girl and Strawberry looked away.
"Be careful! You might melt!" Hansel said with a giggle.
"Hansel!" he glared at the girl.
"Oops! Sorry meme!" the girl replied while laughing.
She and Missy held back their laughter, Hansel suddenly stood up and went to the front to get their snacks.
"Sweet, where are you going to go home later?" Missy asked.
"I'll be at McDonald's later until eight pm."
"Can you review that?"
"Don't worry, Missy! I can handle the exam!"
"Besides, you're smart and pretty! Everything with the letter M is already yours."
"Hey, you're so serious Missy!"
"Do you want us to take it one by one?" Hansel suddenly asked while putting down their food.
"Oh! Don't do it or we might get caught in the dark," Strawberry laughed and denied.
They laughed again. Actually, the four of them were always absent, one of whom was Jedda. A spoiled and easy-going student. Her love life was always on the line.
"Why is it, Jedda isn't here yet?" Strawberry remembered.
"Sweet, she's probably in heaven again!" Missy replied.
"Hey! Shut up," he told the girl.
"Why, it's true! She's not just getting married to look better." Hansel was furious.
"Guys, don't be like that to her, okay? She's our friend, so we should just support her. Whatever she wants, let her be happy there." Strawberry preached.
"I told you Missy, she already has all the M's. First, she's a lawyer, not a tyrant." Hansel said.
Missy and Strawberry laughed at their friend. They talked a lot before they decided to go back to their classroom. Strawberry was also grateful that Miel, a Sophomore in the Accounting building, didn't pick on her. Besides, having a boyfriend wasn't on her mind yet. That's why all her lovers were basted. Rich or poor, to her they were equally basted. As long as she finished her studies, Strawberry hurriedly left. She just waved at her friends and they were gone. Strawberry took the lead in getting into the jeep. She pulled her long hair up and took out her McDonald's hat. The car stopped and she took the lead in getting out again. She ran to the McDonald's straight to the Comfort room and changed into her uniform. She put on pants and a white blouse. She hung her bag in the waiting room and went to the counter.
"To go home earlier, there's an exam tomorrow," Strawberry replied.
"Just put on a little make-up, huh?"
"Yes! In fact, I'm itching."
"You'll get used to it."
With that, they fell silent because the number of customers had increased. It wasn't long before the girl's feet started to shake. She had been standing at Blossom's Café for almost two hours this morning before going to school.
"What time do you go to the Café?" Sheena asked when they were in the dirty kitchen to eat.
"Four to five," Strawberry replied.
"You're awesome! How many hours did you sleep then?"
"I've had six hours of sleep!"
"What time is your first class?"
"It's seven thirty, sometimes I sleep until six and when I wake up it's seven."
"Eh, how do you dress up like that?"
"No! Toothbrush, change of clothes and a hat."
Sheena's eyes widened.
"That's it?" Sheena exclaimed in disbelief.
"Yes! On the way, I put on lipstick and blush. Then a little spritz of perfume, a little comb and I'm done!"
"Hey, you're like a machine. Me, I can't do what you do."
"That's what happens when you're in a hurry," Strawberry said while taking a bite of food.
Sheena was overwhelmed.
"Why don't you find a sugar daddy or a rich boyfriend?" the girl suddenly asked.
Strawberry almost choked on what Sheena said.
"No way! I don't want to be called money-minded, it makes me feel better somehow."
"Well, billionaires are like that! After all, you're so beautiful! You even beat out those who get a tattoo because of the smoothness of your skin."
"Hey! Stop it Sheena! I don't want that, I'm so grateful!"
"But, sweet, can I ask you something? What do you use? Why are you so white and smooth?"
Strawberry laughed out loud because of Sheena's question.
"I only use cheap soap and powder. Cheap blush on and lipstick! My lotion, the ones sold on the street."
"That's right? Eh, why do you look like an actress? It's so unfair! Me, I've almost run out of money because of the things I buy!"
"Sheena, you're already beautiful. Accept what our God gave you, your appearance."
"Hmmm, you're just saying that because you're beautiful."
"Nope! I insist! If only you knew that I'm also envied by many,"
"Hey! That's enough! Let's just eat,"
"Right!"
And they ate together. After they finished eating, they returned to the counter. It was past eight when Sheena and she finished. Their replacements had also arrived at the counter. Strawberry also decided to go home because she was still reviewing for their exam tomorrow. Sheena said goodbye and they parted ways.
