Left Alone
Hi! I am Susana Adams, everyone calls me Suzy. I am 15 and live with my mum Helena in Chester City. Before I begin my story, let me introduce my mum and her best friend Suna.
My mom, Helena, is 42 years old and is my only family. I always admire her determination, strength and protective nature. She, by profession, is a marketing director in a small cap company but holds a strong position.
Her boss also likes her for her dedication towards her work.
Now comes my mum’s best friend Suna and my aunty. Suna aunty has worked with my mum for the past 10 years. She is the most dignified young bachelor working as an associate in the company and apple of many man’s eyes.
Though she prefers to be single rather than in a committed relationship.
I am a high school girl right now and having my best time with my friends.
I never knew my father. Once I asked my mum about my father, she told me, “He has left us, neither of us were important to him.”
And with that reply, I never asked her again about him. I was happy with my mum, aunt Suna and my friends.
But happiness doesn’t last long. I didn’t know yet how my life was going to change.
This was my life just a few weeks ago. Right now I am in a graveyard to bury my mother.

Reminiscent *******
It’s summer in the UK and I received a call at my school, “Hello.”
“Suzy,” I recognised her voice, “Aunt Suna, what happened? Is Mum ok?”
“Yes," she hesitated. “Please come at the City hospital, we need you for some paperwork”.
She said everything’s ok but my heart knew something is not right. Mum is suffering from a viral fever and after our persuasion, she finally agreed to visit the hospital.
Doctor checked her, gave her medicines but the reason behind the fever was still unknown.
Her attendant doctor told us, “Don’t worry, it’s viral fever, she will be ok after rest and medication.”
But that never happened.
After the call.
I informed my class teacher and ran towards the gate of school, I boarded a taxi and told the driver to reach the hospital asap.
I reached the hospital and ran towards her ward panting. I was so nervous that at any time I feel like losing my consciousness.
Seeing me in that state, Aunt Suna came to me and hold me. I saw her faced was dull and eyes swollen due to crying.
She hugged me and before I could ask, she said “Helena, is not doing well, Suzy”.
Please be strong for her.
I was not in state to react, I just heard her words and said, Can I visit her.
“No”, “the doctor’s are not allowing anyone as it’s a viral fever. And the cause is unknown.”
“No medicine is working on her Suzy”.
I knew my mum’s health was not ok, she always worked late in office skipped meal, joined late night parties for new clients.
I always nagged her to look after hear health and in reply she would exclaim, “My little Suzy has really grown now.”
“She was fine weeks before when she went for her new project in Singapore.”
“It was just her excuse, she was not doing well, I told her to drop the project and take rest home”, “but she never listened” Aunt Suna told me.
“During the trip, she fainted in one morning and was admitted in a hospital there.” “but she never let me told you this Suzy.”
I was angry on my mum and worried at the same, I didn’t know what to do now.
“I am sorry Suzy”, “I couldn’t take care of your mother”. “I should’ve informed you about her health, I am sorry.”
“Don’t say sorry, Aunt”.
“Can I at least see her from the outside?”
“Yes, come with me.”
She led me towards the door and I saw my mum lying on the bed with a nurse checking vitals.
It’s been five days she is hospitalised and till the day before yesterday I was allowed to go to her, She didn’t talk to me much as she was under medication.
Sleeping mostly, but the last day she opened her eyes and smiled at me.
That was the last time I was close to her. But I was wearing a PPE and was not allowed to touch her.
******End of reminisce.
Today I am left alone at the graveyard with her office colleagues who came to bid their goodbye.
I still couldn’t believe my mum is not anymore. She will never hold my hand, hug me or kiss me or call me Suzy.
Two hours ago for the last moment, I touched her icy cold hands, still I thought she was pranking me.
“Surprise, got you!!!” each time she pranked me this was our best game among ourselves.
She would prank me and I would play prank on her.
