Ethan's POV
Logan interrupted my moment with Claire through a mind link saying something about a council meeting.
I move downstairs to meet him and I give him the questioning brows as I approach him.
"Logan, I'm on my days off from royal duty and any pack--"
"It's important Ethan, or I wouldn't disturb you." He looks at me with all seriousness and I nod with understanding.
It's not like he controls the council and decides when they can just pull up an impromptu meeting.
That annoying privilege lies with the council itself.
Well I can also assemble a meeting if I have to but I don't like abusing that power.
"Why are they assembling a meeting? I thought they said no more until either side solves the problem."
By either side I mean Arthur and I.
"Yeah this is different. I heard it's about the future Luna." At that I pause at the entrance to the castle.
"Claire?" I ask again to be sure of what I heard and Logan nods.
"They couldn't wait a day after the pictures of the two of you came out, they want to question you, most especially her." I swallow a bit.
"About what?" I ask and Logan shrugs.
"They probably want to know who and what she is." I clarify.
"Yeah, probably." He nods.
"Let's hit the road. The meeting place is far anyway."
We take two cars full of guards along with us whilst only Logan and I occupy the third car.
*
"So what are you going to say when they ask about her. I mean you already lied to your family. What about the council?" Logan asks in the middle of the journey.
"We'll tell them the same thing."
"I don't mean to state the obvious but you know that's risky." He says but I shake my head.
"No, risky is they knowing what she is and coming after her. And I don't mean only verbally. I'm afraid of what they might do to her." I clench my fists together feeling totally uneasy.
"I'm sure they won't hurt her. They'll probably just talk, like they always do." Logan assures me and I nod.
"Let's just stick to our story. Claire is just a normal wolf, and until this curse is broken they won't see us as anything else but threats."
Logan nods with understanding.
We pull up to the secret castle hidden at a very secret and private location.
This place is only known by the 20 members of the werewolf council.
Logan and I walk into the castle escorted by the guards until we arrive in the huge conference room full of werewolves. They're mostly in their old ages, but still strong.
The moment I step into the room the murmuring increases and I take my seat with Logan by my side.
I spot Arthur in the room and he looks at me with no expression on his face, so typical of him.
Logan's dad, my dad's beta, comes over to greet us and we acknowledge his presence. He also updates us on why we are here.
"Please let there be silence, the meeting is about to begin." The head of the council shouts and the room falls silent.
"Let us begin." He says before standing in the middle of the room.
"As you all know we are gathered here to question the king about the rumors of a future Luna." He says looking at me and I catch a glimpse of Arthur smirking.
What has gotten him so happy?
"Is it true that you have found your mate?" The head asks and I nod.
"Yes, it's true." The room fills with murmurings.
"And is it true she is a werewolf?"
I raise my gaze to find Arthur staring at me intensely.
The whole room is staring at me intensely. They want to know if I made the same mistake my father did.
Logan slightly hits my leg to snap me out of my trance.
"Yes, she's a werewolf." I say and more whispers are heard.
"That means this curse can be broken."
"The alpha title will completely be his."
"Hold on, we still don't know if he's the one who brought this curse."
I listen to some of the whispers and exhale hard.
"Then what is the update with the curse? Has there been another step to follow?" A council member from Arthur's side asks.
"No, we are still working on it." I reply.
"Why should we believe you, you could be delaying this on purpose." Another council member from Arthur's side shouts.
"He wouldn't waste his time wanting to break this curse if he caused it." Shouts Logan's dad calmly in support of me.
Most of the members who support me do so due to their loyalty to my father and I.
I see Arthur whisper something into one of his council member's ear before he turns to ask a question.
"Where is she from? The future Luna?"
I crease my forehead at the question then glance at Arthur who looks back with no expression on his face.
What is he up to? He already knows this.
"A small town called Blueville." I reply.
"And her pack?" The council member continues to ask.
"Red Moon pack."
The whole room suddenly turns into an unending whispering session.
"Silence!" The head shouts.
"Isn't that the pack that associates themselves with witches and humans?" He asks and Logan and I exchange looks.
"Yes, they are." I reply and the whole room turns chaotic.
So that is what that a-hole is up to.
"Surely you don't expect us to form an alliance with such a pack." Arthur speaks for the first time and I try not to glare at him
"They don't value their secrecy as werewolves. Surely they know they should be hidden from the human world." Another member says but I'm too fixated on Arthur to say anything.
"Yes, they did associate themselves with the human world, but that's a thing of the past now. They realized their mistake and put everything right, now they only associate themselves with witches."
Logan speaks and the whispering continues.
He's not wrong, and though Arthur thought he had me there, I would say his source didn't update him on what has happened currently.
Sometime after the almost apocalypse the pack decided with the witches that it's best the humans forget they live amongst them.
So the witches together with the sisters made it possible.
Now Red Moon pack only associates themselves with witches.
"If you ask me that puts us at a better advantage." One member from my side speaks.
"This pack can help us. They have witches who are the experts in spells and curses." Logan's dad adds and even those on Arthur's side agree to this, making Arthur frown.
He thought he had me.
The room falls into discussions and the head calls the two representatives from both sides.
He discusses it with them before agreeing on a final decision.
"That is indeed an advantage." The head says nodding and I can see how angry this makes Arthur.
"We would like to meet the future Luna and discuss this with her. We want to see how best she can help." He adds and I nod trying not to smirk at Arthur.
*
The meeting is dismissed and I decide to sit there for a while.
I thank the council members on my side especially Logan's dad who was backing me up hundred percent.
Logan and I walk back to our cars and I see Arthur getting into his before he drives away.
"Looks like we got to him this time." Logan chuckles as we stand by our car.
"I really don't think so. He knows we are still hiding something, and I know he won't stop until he finds out." Logan pats me on the shoulder before walking over to the driver's seat.
We climb into the car then set out on the dark road with the guards riding in front and behind us.
Far away from the castle whilst surrounded by trees and darkness we suddenly witness an explosion.
Logan brings the car to a sudden halt and we exchange looks.
The car right in front of us just went out in flames and I doubt anyone survived that.
We alight and the guards behind us also do same.
I look around suspiciously, especially into the woods for any sign of an ambush.
We see something move and the remaining guards take out their guns to form a perimeter around us.
"Please tell me you brought a weapon." I look to Logan who goes back into the car before returning with two guns.
The burning car becomes our only source of light in this dark night.
This is another assassination attempt.
