Claire's POV
We arrive back at the castle late afternoon.
Ethan opens the door for me and we walk in to find the others waiting for us.
"What's wrong?" Ethan asks perplexed as we exchange looks.
"Your mother is waiting for you, the both of you." Lydia says with a smiling face but something about the whole situation tells me something isn't right.
"Is something wrong?" I ask concerned but they just smile at us whilst shaking their heads.
"What's wrong with your faces?" Ethan asks again and they quickly change their faces to look serious.
I chuckle at them.
"Okay." Ethan says curiously and grabs my hand before we walk away from their awkwardness.
"What do you think is wrong with them?" I ask and he shrugs.
"Who knows, all four of them are probably up to no good." I chuckle at his statement as we arrive at his mother's office.
Ethan knocks on the door and she calls us in.
"Finally, you two love birds have arrived." Katherine says and Ethan and I exchange confused looks again.
"Lydia said you wanted to see us." Ethan speaks
"Yes, take a seat." She gestures to the chairs in front of her desk and we sit down.
Katherine leans onto the table staring at the both of us closely.
"I guess the two of you decided to go public." She says and Ethan immediately understands, but I on the other hand is perplexed.
"Public?" I ask and Katherine nods.
"The people of Artea know what you look like now. The humans think you're a potential queen and the werewolves know you're the future Luna."
I pause for a moment to imbibe the information.
"My problem is, I don't think she's ready for this." Katherine turns to look at Ethan as she speaks.
He opens his mouth to speak and....
"Now the council is going to come after her and the media will be following her every movements when she's outside." She adds.
"I see where you're coming from maa, but you don't have to worry about anything." Ethan assures her.
"Are you sure about that?" She questions.
"The worst the council can do is just question us." He adds.
"And what about the media?" She narrows her eyes at him.
"I can take care of myself, Katherine." I add surprising them.
"I've been followed around by the media and paparazzi before. It's nothing new." Ethan nods and Katherine looks at me impressed.
"Maa this is bound to happen anyway, and trust me, I have everything covered." He says assuring Katherine again.
"I guess if you put it that way, then it's okay." She smiles at me.
"Just be careful, the both of you, and no inappropriate stuff when you're out together. You know the rules." She speaks her last statement directly at Ethan and he chuckles.
"Sure maa."
"You can leave." She adds and Ethan helps me stand before we excuse ourselves.
We arrive back in the room and I sigh exhausted before collapsing on the bed.
Ethan chuckles at me before heading to the washroom.
When he comes back I sit up and move to the edge of the bed.
"What did you mean when you said have this covered? What's the problem with the council?" I ask curiously and he nods before pulling a chair.
He turns the chair around and sits in front of me.
"There's this division in the pack."
"Yeah I know, Logan told me."
He looks a bit surprised but nods.
"The division is between Arthur and I, and our followers who are those who blame me for the curse and those--"
"I also know that." I cut in and he sighs causing me to giggle.
"So you know I'm not fully the alpha?" He quirks an eyebrow and I slowly nod.
He sighs again running his hand through his hair.
"I was only appointed Alpha by the majority because I'm the king. Arthur still has a large number of followers which prevents them from accepting me fully. The spell wearing off also isn't helping because it turns more people to him." I nod at him and also move closer.
"Logan said you can't assume full power until the curse is broken."
"Yes." He nods.
"What about Arthur? How can he become the alpha?" I ask curious to know.
"If he and his father can prove the claim that I'm attached to the curse, or find any other thing that makes me unqualified."
I nod.
"And could a hybrid mate be part?" I suddenly ask remembering what he told me about Arthur.
"If they find out I'm a hybrid just like you, that makes you unqualified, isn't it? That's why you want me to stay away from Arthur, so he doesn't find out."
He exhales hard and pinches his eyebrows before nodding again.
"So I'm a threat rather than a helper." He instantly stands pushing the chair away.
I watch him kneel down before taking both my hands in his.
"You're not a threat, don't ever think that." He says and I nod at him.
"And once we break this curse we can convince everyone that we're not threats." I nod again.
"Till then let's just make them believe you're just a werewolf. I don't want them coming after you because you're different." He moves his thumb over my cheek and I nod again before he places a kiss on my forehead.
I look back into his eyes and I realize he's in a mind link.
He comes back to me in some few seconds and I look at him with questioning brows as he sighs.
"I have to go. The council is assembling a meeting." My eyes widen with surprise.
"Why?"
"I don't know, but I guess I'll find out." He places a quick kiss on my lips before rushing out.
I sigh then lie back down on the bed.
I have to go and see Stephanie to see how this vision thing is going.
Suddenly my phone rings in my purse beside me and I take it out.
I smile seeing that the caller is Trina before answering.
Oh she's gonna kill me. I haven't been calling lately.
I put the phone to my ear whilst sitting up.
"Are the rumors true?" She basically screams into my ear but I can't help but laugh.
Classic Trina.
