Claire's POV
Trina basically stares at Alex whilst he eats like a hungry wolf and I smile at the look of disgust on her face whilst I also eat my breakfast.
We gave him dinner yesterday but it seems they've been starving him for months.
"Can you please use your cutlery.” Trina finally speaks up as I sip some coffee.
"Can you mind your own business.” Alex retorts back and I almost vomit the water out.
I hide the smile on my face as Trina goes on an angry staring contest with my brother who has a nonchalant attitude.
"Can I talk to you?” Trina looks at me smiling and I eye her suspiciously.
"Why?”
"It won't take long.” She says then pulls me out of our booth.
We take a seat by the counter and I give her the I'm listening face.
"I don't like him.” She says whilst stealing small glances at Alex.
"I figured.”
"I just want us to hurry and get the hell out of here.” I nod but her eyes are still on Alex.
Wow. She really doesn't trust him, or like him.
"Anyway, how are you feeling?” She asks out of the blue and reaches for my hands as she turns her attention to me.
"Good.” I shrug a bit knowing specifically well what she's referring to.
"You don't feel anything weird?” She has that concern look on her face but I know what she's playing at. And it really annoys me that she's asking these questions.
"I'm fine Trina. I'm not going to blackout and murder everyone in the diner.” I roll my eyes and stand to leave feeling annoyed.
Trina grabs a hold of my hand and pulls me back.
"Look, don't get annoyed that I'm asking. I'm just checking up on you.” Her eyes speak to me and my heart softens a bit.
"I'm sorry Trina. I'm just sick and tired of the people around me worrying so much.” She nods at me then looks over at Alex again.
"You ready to know if he's actually your brother?” I also look at him then nod.
We walk back to our booth and take out seats opposite him.
He looks better now as compared to when I found him in the cell.
He has shaved a bit and is now wearing clean clothes but I don't think any soap on earth can take away that rogue smell. It's basically part of their identity.
"Are you going to eat that?” He asks the moment we relax in our seats and Trina and I stare at our breakfast.
She opens her mouth to say something that will probably start an argument so I quickly put my hand on her shoulder.
"How about I order you another plate.” I ask and he instantly nods.
I signal a waitress and order another breakfast for him.
As we wait I exchange looks with Trina and she signals me to start the conversation.
"How did you know I was being transferred?” Surprisingly Alex starts the conversation and I try not to look shocked.
"Well. I got info from a friend of mine who works with the council.” He nods.
"And why did you come looking for me?” I take in a deep breath then give him a hard stare.
He looks a little like the younger version of Victoria and just like me he also has hazel eyes and dark brown hair.
"Who am I to you, Alex.” I ask and he looks me directly in the eyes.
"I assumed you already knew. I mean why would you risk your life like that to save mine” He smiles a bit and I realise how charming it is.
"Just answer the question.” Trina speaks annoyed and I place my hand on her shoulder.
"Why did you save me?" Alex turns to me and I nod at his question.
"Because I think you're my….. brother.” He smiles at my answer.
Trina rolls her eyes then sips her coffee.
"Do you know what our mother looks like?” I crease my forehead but nod anyway.
He then reaches into his pocket and pulls out a locket.
I stare at it amazed at its familiarity then also pull out the locket aunt Jessica gave me.
I compare the two then open both of them.
"There are two?” I nod at Trina who inspects the photos in the locket with me.
I hand back Alex's locket and he puts it around his neck.
"But how?” I ask.
"How is this possible?” He quirks an eyebrow at my question.
"More like how are you a rogue?” Trina drops in.
"Our mother left. Don't you know the story?”
"I know the story. Trust me, I know everything.” I respond and he looks at me sadly.
"I was too young to have known what she was doing when she made us leave you in the woods. If I had known…..”
"How old were you?” Trina interrupts
"Four.” Alex replies.
"Understandable." She shrugs.
"Look, can I talk to my sister alone?” He demands angrily and Trina frowns.
"Oh I'm sorry. I don't trust you!” She almost yells.
"Will the two of you quit it!” I yell attracting some attention to our booth.
The waitress arrives with Alex's food then sets it on the table giving us a warning eye before leaving.
"Come on Claire. You don't expect me to leave you with him. He tried to kidnap you and he stalked you for months, who even knows if he's not making this up.”
"I'm not! And I don't owe you any explanation.” Alex retorts and I bury my face in my hands.
Both of them keep quiet at my frustrated look and I sigh a bit relieved.
"Just five minutes Trina.” I look at her and her eyes widen.
"Just five minutes, please.” I plead and she gapes a bit before finally nodding.
"Fine. But if he does anything I'll make true to my promise.” She warns before rubbing my hand and leaving us alone.
I sigh again when it's finally the two of us.
"Why did you try to kidnap me? Why didn't you just show yourself?”
"If I did back then would you have believed me?” He questions and I think back to that time.
I hadn't even met aunt Jessica. And also there was no way I would have believed I'm related to a rogue.
I slowly shake my head and he nods.
"I was just gonna watch and approach when the time was right but mom found out about you, I had to act fast.”
I stare at him confused.
"Why is he talking like our mother is bad person?” Mia asks the question on my mind.
"Why?”
"She can't be trusted. She has changed.” I stare on confused.
"She let the title get into her head and….”
"Wait, hold on, title?” I make him pause.
"I thought you knew.” I shake my head at him.
"Knew what?”
"That mom is the rogue Queen.” My eyes widen at his statement and I fall back into my seat.
That explains why they called him prince. But how is this even possible? A pack of rogues headed by a queen? Rogues are supposed to be lone, mad raving wolves.
"Think about it Claire .That explains why Alex is mentally normal, apart from his scent.” I nod at Mia.
"How long has this been going on?”
"For years. She made us stay hidden. I know she's planning something.” I swallow at his answer.
"So you kept me a secret from her because she's dangerous?” He nods.
"She knows what you are, and she'll probably wants to use you to kill her enemies, no strings attached.”
"And why didn't you let her?” I question curiously.
"Because I'm not like her….all I wanted ever since I was a kid was someone to share my world with, someone I can love and protect. Then I met Cassie.” I nod remembering his crazy mate who thought I was stealing his heart.
"Even with Cassie around I still felt that emptiness, well until I remembered I had a sister who might probably be alive if the woods didn't eat her alive. I started digging then I found you, alive.” I look at him a bit shocked.
I can't believe what he's saying right now.
My mother is an evil rogue Queen who is probably sitting on some great power and authority waiting for the right time to attack her enemies.
Why do I have a feeling my old pack, Red Moon pack, is on that list. And my brother, a rogue prince sitting right in front of me.
" I'm sure you probably wanted to meet her and ask questions, but trust me. You don't want to cross paths with her. She has lost the heart she once possessed. You won't get the love that you want from her.” He warns and I swallow a bit.
"So you're the reason why the werewolf council had lycans transferring what I would call common rogue prisoners.” He nods.
"But lycans are supposed to be extinct. They're dangerous creatures.”
"That stupid council is way up in their heads experimenting with things that should remain dead. That's why we rogues don't trust them.” I nod.
Suddenly something familiar pops up on the television and I turn my attention to it. Alex looks at it too and we both exchange looks.
The truck that was transferring them was hijacked right after we rescued him.
Some people got hurt and killed but the humans think it's an animal attack, as usual.
Those dangerous monsters shouldn't be out on the loose.
"Looks like you weren't the only one who knew about my transfer.” Alex turns to look at me.
"Cassie. Your mate.” Of course they weren't going to sit down and watch their rogue prince get executed. They probably knew the best time to attack was the transfer process just like Trina and I did. Getting into headquarters is almost impossible.
"And I'm sure mother had a hand in this. There're probably pissed I wasn't on the ride.” I look at him understanding what he means to say.
"Thanks for coming to my rescue, but I'm sorry it's not the kind of family reunion you planned.” I try to hide the disappointment and smile a bit.
*
Alex finishes his food and I spend the rest of the day getting to know him.
I like him, he's different from what I thought a rogue would be.
"Will I ever see you again?” I ask after we drop him off at his meeting point with his kind.
"I'll look for you. And I'll keep my eyes on you.”
"So how are you going to explain this to…. Victoria.” He shrugs.
"I'll find a way. I'll make sure she doesn't find you." I nod at his answer.
Trina hits the car horn and I smile at her before turning back to Alex.
It's actually good I got to him before they didn't. I wouldn't have gotten the chance to meet him.
"Oh one last thing though." He creases his forehead at me.
"Please stay far away from Blueville.” I warn and he nods already understanding me.
I give him a hug to his surprise and I feel at first he doesn't know who to respond to it but he slowly wraps his arms around me in the end.
Something really weird happens at that moment but I keep it to myself.
His scent just changed. He doesn't smell like a rogue any more. He smells like a breath of fresh air.
I pull away from the hug then walk back to the car.
I turn to look at him as he walks away and I suddenly remember aunt Jessica's message, but then I realise I can't give it to him. It wouldn't make sense with his story.
Sorry Aunt.
