Chapter 1
The Day Everything Collapsed
The taxi stopped abruptly in front of the mansion gate.
I pushed the door open with trembling hands, my newborn baby pressed tightly against my chest. My body was still weak from childbirth, every movement painful—but I had no choice. I had to get home.
I stepped out—
And froze.
My suitcase was already outside.
My clothes scattered neatly beside it like I had been erased.
My breath caught.
“What…?” I whispered.
Something was wrong.
Very wrong.
Holding my baby tighter, I rushed forward, ignoring the sharp pain in my body. My hand pushed open the mansion door—
It wasn’t locked.
Inside, laughter hit me first.
Soft.
Casual.
Like nothing was wrong.
I stepped in fast—
And stopped dead.
Elvis was on the sofa.
Brianna was beside him.
Wine glasses in their hands.
Relaxed. Comfortable. Smiling.
My heart slammed against my chest.
Brianna turned first.
Her eyes landed on me—and instantly sharpened.
The smile vanished.
Elvis looked up slowly.
The moment his eyes met mine holding the baby, his face twisted.
Disgust.
Pure, cold disgust.
My stomach dropped.
“What is going on here?” I asked quickly, my voice breaking slightly. “Why are my things outside?”
I took one step forward.
That was enough.
Elvis shot up from the sofa.
“Hey!” His voice exploded through the room. “What do you think you are doing walking in like this?”
I blinked.
“Walking into my home?” I said breathlessly. “I just came from the hospital—I gave birth to your child!”
Silence.
The air turned heavy.
Then Elvis laughed.
Not humor.
Mockery.
“What child?” he asked.
My heart stopped.
“What…?”
He stepped closer, eyes locked on the baby.
“Whose baby is that?” he repeated sharply.
My hands shook instantly.
“Elvis… don’t do this. This is your son.”
But his expression darkened.
“I don’t have a child with you,” he snapped.
The words hit like a slap.
I staggered slightly.
“No… no, you’re joking,” I whispered.
Behind him, Brianna smirked faintly.
That small smile made my blood run cold.
Elvis raised his voice.
“Maids!”
Footsteps rushed from the hallway.
Three maids appeared immediately, confused.
“Leave. All of you. Get out of this house,” he ordered.
One maid hesitated. “Sir—”
“I SAID LEAVE!”
They flinched and rushed out.
The door slammed shut behind them.
Silence.
Heavy silence.
It was just the three of us now.
Elvis, Brianna… and me holding my newborn baby.
Elvis turned back to me.
Calm now.
Too calm.
“Sign the divorce papers,” he said, pointing to the table.
My throat tightened.
“I don’t understand what is happening…”
But Brianna stood up.
Slowly walking toward me.
Her voice was sweet—but poisonous.
“It’s my turn to repay you, witch.”
My eyes widened slightly.
“What…?”
Her smile sharpened.
“Since childhood, you took everything from me. Attention. Love. Even Elvis—the man I wanted.”
My breathing became uneven.
“That’s not true…”
But she leaned closer.
“And now,” she whispered, “you lose everything.”
My fingers trembled as I looked at her face.
The sister I trusted.
Gone.
I slowly reached for the pen.
No tears.
Just shock.
Just silence.
I signed.
One stroke.
Then another.
Done.
I placed the pen down gently.
For a second, nobody spoke.
Then Elvis leaned back and said coldly—
“This marriage was fake.”
My body froze.
He didn’t stop.
“I only married you for my company,” he continued. “Your name. Your insurance. That’s all I needed.”
My lips parted slightly.
“…What?”
Brianna laughed softly behind him.
Elvis looked at me without emotion.
“You were useful,” he said. “Nothing more.”
The room tilted.
My grip tightened around my baby instinctively.
Then I whispered, barely audible:
“…So all this time…”
No answer.
Only silence.
I looked down at my newborn baby.
So small.
So innocent.
Then I asked softly, almost breaking:
“…What name should I give him…”
For a moment, everything stopped.
Even Brianna.
Even Elvis.
Then—
A sharp spit hit the floor near my feet.
Slowly, I looked up.
My mother-in-law stood at the doorway.
No words.
No expression.
Just disgust.
Then she turned away and walked out.
And that was when I understood—
My life here had already ended before I even arrived.
