I looked around and saw Dia across the room, engaged in some task with a shovel. “Sweep, could you get Dia for me?” He nodded and rose. I closed my eyes, wondering what I had done. Beyond the crowded room, I heard the trickle of water. I guessed it was raining. I looked toward Dia, and saw she'd been digging a trench. A trench already full with water. She came toward me, shovel in hand, muddy to the knees. “How long has it been raining?” I asked. “An hour,” she said. “Twice as long as usual. There are watermarks halfway up on the door.
