The k********g–Prt 1

For a moment,everything was perfect and then that moment ended.

Katherine's POV

Did Dave really think I would miss out on a party like this? Heck no!

"Katherine?!" He said,turning around. He stared at me in shock and I grinned,satisfied at his reaction.

There was another woman dressed like him,looking at me excitedly. "Oh my gosh,it's your dancer girlfriend!".

I looked at them confused,girlfriend?.

"She is not my girlfriend" I heard Dave say breathlessly,his eyes still on me. He straightened up when he realised he had been staring for too long.

"What are you doing here?!" He exclaimed in realization, "how did you get here?".

"That would be me" Ayo said,coming to my side with a grin.

Dave looked at me with a comically outraged look. "You went behind my back and called Ayo? I'm so hurt. I have been wronged" he said dramatically.

I laughed, "stop being so dramatic Dave. You are going to take Ayo's position".

"See,she likes me more than you" Ayo said,throwing a mocking glance at Dave. Dave narrowed his eyes at Ayo unimpressed.

"Ahem!" Someone said from behind and we turned to face a beautiful young woman. She was staring us in displeasure. While i wondered why she interrupted us,I noticed Ayo's face turn cold and the woman next to Dave glared at her. Dave looked indifferent. They seemed to know her.

"What do you want Miriam?" He asked emotionlessly. That's strange,I have never heard Dave sound like that before.

"Who is she?" The woman,Miriam,asked walking over to me in a dignified,calm manner. I was impressed.

"My name is Katherine,nice to meet you" I said,holding out my hand for a handshake. Miriam eyed my hands with a look of contempt and I saw Dave become furious.

"Stop this nonsense and go away Miriam" Dave said angrily, "go back to your useless rich husband". My hand dropped hearing that and I looked at Dave surprised.

"Dave..." Miriam said,turning to Dave to cup his cheeks but he backed away like he was repulsed by her. I raised an eyebrow and I couldn't help the amused look that came on my face.

"Don't touch me and stop acting like you are so innocent" Dave said upset, "just go away,you are seriously annoying me. You are married now so go back to your husband and never call me or come to my workplace again".

"But...". Miriam kept quiet,seeing Dave's furious glare on her. She dropped her hands and walked away,not before giving me a glare.

"What was that?" I asked as soon as Miriam left. I looked at the trio around me who clearly knew what just happened.

Ayo's face had softened up and Toyosi relaxed,they looked at me.

"That was Dave's ex-girlfriend,Miriam. I'm Toyosi" The woman,who introduced herself as Toyosi,said. That didn't register because all I could think of was...

"You had a girlfriend?!" I exclaimed amused,almost laughing out.

"What's so strange about that?" Dave frowned. I giggled amused.

"You are just so uptight and...simple,boring" I said laughing. Dave frowned deeper.

"Thanks for letting me know,that's why she dumped me after all".

The smile wiped off my face, "what?".

"Let's say we go somewhere private to discuss this" Ayo said,looking around. We agreed and went to a scanty corner of the restaurant. Ayo and Toyosi took turns in explaining everything to me and I was left dumbstruck.

"Wow! She is unserious" I said, "how could she dare do such a thing? She is such a heartless person. I also can't believe she would dare attempt to cheat on her husband of barely a month with her ex-boyfriend".

"Yep" Toyosi said,happy someone sees her point. I turned to a sulking Dave, "you know I didn't mean it Dave. I wasn't being serious,I was just teasing you".

"It must be true if everyone is saying it" Dave said not looking at me. I felt bad that I said that and hugged him,surprising him in the process.

"I'm sorry Dave," I apologised. "You may be boring but you are a pretty awesome dude. You are kind and helpful. It's Miriam stupidity if she doesn't recognize what she lost,besides," I pulled away,looking at his surprised face. "You dodged that bullet,consider yourself lucky".

Dave smiled and Toyosi laughed at my last statement. "Thanks short stack" Dave said smirking.

I pouted at him and he just laughed. I laughed too.

"I think we should go back to the kitchen. We have been gone for too long" Dave smiled. I nodded. Dave and Toyosi left and entered a room. I turned to Ayo with a smile.

"So,show me a table?".

"Of course".

Ayo led me to table and we both sat down. I looked around,the music was soft and nice,the furniture were comfortable and beautiful,this place was amazing.

"Ayo....your father's restaurant is very beautiful" I said impressed.

"Thank you" Ayo grinned.

"So,what do you do Ayo?".

"I own a gym. I love keeping people fit" Ayo answered truthfully. I could see the love he had for it in his eyes.

"So you are like those healthy workout freaks?" I joked.

"I'm offended. But yes,you can say that plus,I get to watch ladies workout" Ayo grinned,winking. "It's a win win".

I laughed loud and shook my head,picking up the menu card. I decided on my food and Ayo called a waiter.

"We want to order. Kath?".

"Umm,I want...Jollof rice and salad" I said. I could smell it,it was calling me. Stop it Kath,don't be creepy.

"Fried rice" Ayo said. The waiter nodded and walked away with our orders.

"I can't wait to try all the food" I grinned,propping up my head with my fist as I fantasized about food.

"Just don't eat...um, how do I say it nicely...?" Ayo said,thinking of a word. "Like a pig".

I hit him lightly, "how sensitive".

"So how did you meet Dave?" Ayo asked.

"well...um,I bumped into him at a club but we didn't really talk" I said,wondering if I should tell him what actually happened. Not including my dad is Don Okafor. "it was actually when I was attacked,he helped me".

"And you became friends?".

I nodded.

"And you trust him?" Ayo asked me.

"Of course,why shouldn't i? Dave has given me no reason not to trust him" I said. "He is a very nice person".

"That is true" Ayo agreed,nodding his head. "it's just...you can't trust anyone just like that, Dave is an exception of course but the world is a dangerous place".

"I know" I said sadly, "but for once I want to forget the world is not a bad place".

"Where do you come from? Who are your family members?" Ayo asked, "because I can very well tell you are from a very wealthy family. Why are you staying with Dave then?".

"Dave understands. I haven't told him the entire truth yet but he understands" I said. "it's not that you are not my friend but it is very important I keep this to myself".

Ayo stared at me,trying to figure me out but nodded in understanding.

Dave's POV

Kath really surprises me sometimes. I didn't expect her to say all those nice things about me and it warmed my heart. The smile wiped off my face when i saw Toyosi staring at me with a cheeky smile. I turned away,avoiding her gaze.

"Ooh,somebody is blushing" Toyosi teased as we entered the kitchen.

"Shut up,stop making things not what they seem" I mumbled ignoring her. I left her side and went back to the food. I turned and saw the rest of the staff looking at me expectantly. I was about to speak but Toyosi took care of that for me.

"Don't worry,the b***h has been conquered" Toyosi said in a funny voice, I smiled. "Also,I met K.O. She is Dave's girlfriend" Toyosi completed with a girly squeal. My jaw dropped at her lie. Why would she say that? Katherine isn't my girlfriend!.

I didn't get a chance to speak because everybody cheered happily. "You finally got over that player,congrats!" Fred grinned.

"No no no! That is not true" I exclaimed,waving my arms frantically. "Kath is not my girlfriend. She is just a friend". Just then,the waiter,Dayo walked in with an order.

"Hey,Mr Ayo wants this. He is here with another one of night stands. That guy...".

I furrowed my eyebrows. One night stands...? I-is he talking about Kath?

My face darkened suddenly, "watch your mouth Dayo. You aren't so sure so you shut your mouth".

Everyone looked surprised at my outburst. Dayo was surprised, "hey,why are you being defensive? You are talking as if you don't know your friend. He charms a lady,takes her home for a night–".

"Dayo dear,stop talking or else you will lose a tooth" Toyosi said,tapping his shoulder and bringing his attention to my furious face. "It's his girlfriend you are talking about".

Dayo looked at me with widened eyes, "sorry,didn't know". He left the kitchen hurriedly.

"She isn't my girlfriend Toyosi" I grumbled,coming back to my senses. No one would believe me now after what they had just seen. Why did I react that way?

"if she isn't your girlfriend,why did you react that way?" Toyosi asked.

"I care for her,she is my friend and responsibility and if something happens to her,i will be done for" I answered monotonously.

"Besides,She can be such a pain,she forces me to go everywhere with her. She even forced me to go skydiving with her when she clearly knew I was afraid of heights". I began to ramble passionately not realizing what I said.

Everyone looked at me in disbelief and I realized what I had said. "You went skydiving with her?" Fred gaped, "how rich is she?".

"It's none of your business" I said quickly. I turned away and faced the food. I heard Toyosi whisper I'm sure they will end up dating.

I rolled my eyes,slightly irritated and went out the back door to throw out the trash when I overheard two men talking. They were dressed strangely. They are obviously not here for the party. I thought. They looked familiar.

"...we have found Katherine" a man said. There was this aura of terror I sensed when he spoke. Why are they talking about Katherine?

"As soon as she comes out,we will take her" the man said to someone on the phone. As I thought deeper to try and remember where I saw this men,the fight at the carnival clicked and I paled.

This are the men from the carnival. They are not the same people who came for her at the mall,those people were gentler,these ones were monsters.

I have to warn Kath,whoever this men are,we have to get out of here. I turned to run but I bumped into a trash can. Dang,what the heck?!

The two men surrounded me faster than lightning.

"What did you hear?" The other man asked.

"Nothing" I said,making my way back inside but they held me back.

"We have to make sure of that" that first man said.

Katherine's POV

"Wow,did Dave really cook this?" I asked.

"Not exactly sure but you know what his food tastes like,it's incredible" Ayo answered.

"Yeah,he is an amazing cook" I said, "I should probably be leaving. It's getting late and I need my rest".

"I will drop you home" Ayo offered.

"Thanks,let me tell Dave" I said, getting up but my phone rang. It was an unknown number "let me take this call first".

Ayo nodded and I went outside to answer the call ,"hello?".

"Kath!".

My eyes widened and my hands shook as my breaths hastened. "Chika?".

"Kath! why did you run away? Do you know how worried mom and Dad are?" Chika,my little sister asked,I hadn't talked to her in a long time. "how worried i am? I thought you would let me know when you would leave".

"Chi,you know why i left" I said feeling apologetic. "I need to live my life,mom and dad can't protect me forever. I know I told you I would let you know when I would leave but I couldn't. I couldn't risk anyone finding out".

"But...what if something bad happens to you?" Chika asked worried.

"I will be fine,I already met someone to help me" I smiled,thinking of the angel called Dave that I met.

"I know,the man" Chika chuckled, "dad is going crazy thinking of what he might be doing to you".

"Dave is not like that...".

Fred and Toyosi came out to throw away some trash as well when they heard some noise.

"Mhmm.....mmfff".

"What is that?" Fred asked.

"You hear it too?" Toyosi asked surprised. Fred looked behind the dust bin and saw Dave tied up with a gag in his mouth.

Toyosi gasped, "Dave!".

Toyosi and Fred quickly untied him. Dave coughed,wrinkling his nose in disgust. "Who did that to you?" Fred asked worried.

Dave coughed and looked up,his eyes widening in realization of what happened. "Kath...she is in trouble" he said in worry.

"Trouble?". Fred and Toyosi exchanged a look but Dave didn't stay long to explain. He ran off leaving them behind.

"...this Dave,what does he look like?" Chika asked.

"I will send you a photo" Kath smiled. "But don't tell anyone about our conversation. Please Chika,I don't want dad to cause another scene".

"Okay but Kath...please reconsider" Chika begged. "Just come back home".

"I can't do that Chi-".

Someone covered Kath's mouth and nose with an handkerchief. The phone dropped and Katherine struggled to remove the handkerchief. She shook in anger.

"Kath? Katherine?" Chika asked worried.

"Hmm....mmm" Kath struggled to free herself but she couldn't hold on any longer and slowly fell unconscious.

"That was easy" the first man,who talked on the phone earlier,said.

"Come on" the other man said. They carried an unconscious Katherine into a black sleek car. Suddenly,Dave came out running, "Kath! KATHERINE!".

The two men entered the car and drove away. Dave ran after the car but there was only so much he could run.

"KATH!" he shouted again as the car zoomed out of sight.

"Damn!" he kicked a trash can in frustration and ran a hand through his hair. He stared at empty space in worry and dropped his head,cursing terribly. "Kath no,this can't be happening".

He looked up,staring at the gate in agony when something cold pressed onto the back of his head. He heard a c*****g sound follow it.

"Make any mistakes and I will blow your brain out".

"s**t".
