“Oh! Vincent, you are back?” Marie's mom said with a smile as she wiped Morris' nose. Vincent smiled, scratching his head, while watching Marie walked in with anger. The last reply she gave her mom read deep meaning. “She has indeed changed a lot,” he thought to himself.
He moved forward touching Morris head, Morris smiled sweetly, “welcome uncle Vincent!” Morris said while hugging him on the legs.
“Hey! Big boy!” Vincent chuckled as he carried him in his arms. Marie's mom watched them sweetly.
“Big boy, uncle needs to freshen up and rest a bit. I will come so we can play later, okay?” He said sweetly, smiling broadly like he never had anything to worry about.
“Yeeee!” Morris screamed happily. “Uncle, let's play hide and seek, I promise to catch you wherever you hide,” he chuckled pointing to his chest. Vincent was already laughing non stop, Morris was so bold and confident. And for a moment, Vincent wished he had a son like Morris. “If Marie was still with him, by now they would have a son like Morris too,” he thought to himself.
“Uncle?” Morris called out after observing he was lost in thoughts.
“Yes! Little man, we will play any game you want, when I come back.” He jolted back his wild thoughts. He put Morris back on his grandma's lap, patting Mrs Lawrence by her back. “Hope u are good ma'am?” He asked as he walked away towards the hallway. Mrs Lawrence just nodded with a smile while holding onto Morris tightly.
Marie already freshened up, she tiredly slumped on her bed. “Oh! Gosh!” She muttered looking towards the window. She thought about all that happened just in one day of resuming work. The humiliation from Verena, the cold attitude from the secretary, and her retaliation towards Verena's insult on her son.
She scoffed loudly, “that b***h!” she dropped her hands on her jaw, thinking deeply. “She just drew the line,” she said through clenched teeth.
She immediately stood up from her bed to go get her boy, she had missed him. She stepped out only to find Morris playing hide and seek with Vincent. “What?” She cursed under her breath. She wanted to drag Morris from there, but her mother was there, watching them play. She wouldn't want to angrily sound suspicious.
“This man is definitely looking for my trouble! Anyways, no matter how long he sticks around, he will never get ownership to my boy,” she muttered silently. She stood there for a while but the sight of him irritates her the more, She turned back to leave, hissing loudly that anyone could hear.
“Hello Sir!” She was exclaimed as she turned and bumped into Mr Alessio, Vincent's father, with wide eyes almost falling into his arms.
“Oh! No problem, hope you are good? You hissed so loudly like there is a problem?” Mr Alessio asked with concern. “How was your day at work?” He continued softly.
“Ehh…. Emm… yes! There was actually no problem, was just thinking Morris was too small for that game, but it's fine!” She said sharply forcing a smile. “And work was absolutely fine,” she added, shrugging her shoulders.
Mr Alessio nodded with a smile, “that's good to hear, I think Morris is just safe with Vincent.” He said and paused like he remembered something.
“That reminds me! I actually have something to talk to you about. Let's go sit down and talk,” he walked towards the sitting room and Marie followed behind.
Marie was a bit confused at the moment, “Did he hear something about what happened at work,” she thought to herself, tapping her fingers on her waist.
Mr Alessio sat down on the couch and Marie sat directly opposite to him. “Uhm….!” Mr Alessio cleared his throat and stared directly into the eyes of Marie. This attitude alone sent shivers down her spine.
“What is he up to? Why is he behaving like that? WTF is happening right?” So many questions popped in Marie head, as she tries to keep her composure.
“Are you afraid of something? You act or weird and scared most times!” Mr Alessio started noticing her discomfort. Marie only waved her head.
“Okay, the point is that I swore for you today!” He paused, relaxing himself on the couch. Marie's eyes widened, she clearly didn't understand him.
“There is this business partner of ours, his son had been in the states and is coming back next weekend!” He paused again, as if thinking of what next to say. Marie was listening attentively, think it was about the company and work.
“So I talked on your behalf as my daughter, so you will be meeting him when he returns. Get to know him, go on dates and see if you guys can work something out. I never mentioned you had a child, I'm sure you can handle that when the time comes.” He concluded with a smile.
Marie glared at him with opened mouth and widened eyes. Unsure of what she heard. She doesn't know whether to be happy or sad. “Was this supposed to be a good news,” she muttered to herself.
“Are you okay…..”
“Yes, absolutely Sir. I'm very fine, just lost and confused on how to react,” she cut him sharply. “Firstly, thank you so much for speaking on my behalf, I feel so high of myself right now,” she said smiling.
“Again, I think I just want to focus on my son right now, but you have put so much effort in this so I will give it a try. I hope he accepts my son because that would be my major concern.” She concluded, pulling her both lips together.
“who is accepting who?” A voice asked from the entrance.
