Chapter 6. His instincts

1008 Words
"Hey, mom,” Marie said, smiling broadly at her mom. She felt Vincent's eyes on her but she refused to look his way. “Oh! Your father must be a big fool, how can he be looking for something that is not you,” Vincent's father exclaimed, and that drew the attention of everyone. “I’m so sorry about his father, some men can be cruel, it must be so tough for you to raise him alone.” Mr Alessio said softly at Marie. Before he could finish Marie already nodded, “ It's okay Sir, It wasn't much of a big deal,” she replied immediately avoiding Vincent's eyes like he was going to see the truth in her eyes. “Morris' dad lost such a good fortune of mother and son, he lost a lifetime of happiness,” Vincent chipped in immediately, staring steadily at Marie who was dodging his eyes. He knew she was avoiding him so he was looking for a way to make her loosen up. “Or maybe, the mother was the problem,” he said, raising both hands. He knew he had said something wrong because Immediately he said that, Marie turned at him. “And what is that supposed to mean? Are you indirectly saying that there are problems that can make a man leave his woman, and children for years?” Marie asked him, raising an eyebrow. “Are you seriously saying, I am the problem, because what exactly do you mean by that,” She seriously flared up and her mom was trying to calm her down. “Am sorry, I didn't mean it that way,” Vincent said, surprised at Marie's change of attitude. “Then, kindly explain what you mean, because clearly you talk like a victim, like that kind of man that would do such a thing,” she backfired and stood up to her feet, fuming with anger and heartbreak. A memory she had managed to bury, a feeling she had fought and won had come back just within hours. “Please calm down, my daughter,” Mr Alessio said, reading her anger while Morris already started crying, he hates to see her mom shout like that. He cried so loud that everywhere went quiet and all attention was on him. He climbed down from Mr Alessio's laps and ran to her mom. Marie was even surprised at herself, how can she have such an outburst, she immediately took Morris in her arms and walked out of the dining room without looking back. Mr Alessio didn't bother calling back because he knew she was already broken at the moment and she needed some time alone, so he allowed her to leave and ordered some food to be taken to her room. Vincent was shocked to the bone, he didn't know she would react like that. He melted so hard when Morris began to cry. He couldn't describe their reaction but something in him felt there was something more than just a mere words attached to the reaction. He quickly apologized to his father and Marie's mom for causing such trouble during meal time. He apologized just to clear the air, but his mind was not settled. “ Earlier, it was Morris being locked up and now this,” he murmured to himself while trying to eat. When Marie reached her room, she bursted into tears. The tears she had been holding up since earlier rushed down her cheeks. “I don't blame him, I just blame myself for coming down here in the first place,” she said to herself trying to wipe off her tears. Looking at Morris who was staring at her and shedding his own tears, she cried more hugging him and consoling him. She was careful not to say anymore words because he might pick it up. A knock came at the door but Marie was reluctant to open thinking it was her mom, or anyone else but then an unknown voice came in, “ma'am ur food is here,” Marie jumped up immediately because she was damn hungry and her son too. She opened the door slightly and took the food from Lucia. She locked the door immediately like she was hiding from something. She and her son devoured the food like hungry lions feeding on their prey. Marie was about to take some rest when her phone rang and boom, “ the devil,” she said loudly, not wanting to take the call. But then, the call kept coming in. She picked up, “ the audacity to call me after your attempt,” she said sharply even before she could hear who was speaking. A loud laughter came from the other end, “oh ma'am, don't know what you are talking about please, don't talk without evidence,” Verena's voice came in sarcastically.” Before Marie could reply, the call went off. Marie hissed loudly, “I'm coming for you, just wait and see.” she said, biting her lower lip and raising her nose. She put her baby to sleep and took her phone to call Marbel, she needed someone to talk to at the moment. “Hello girl! Been waiting for ur call long enough to come search for you,” Marbel said laughing. “You! Come search for me?” Marie asked laughing out loud, “you are so funny, where do you get ur talking inspiration from?” Marie said, bursting into another thunderous laughter. “Girl, you know I miss you guys here, seems like I am going to take permission and come down there for a while,” Marbel said softly. “Guess what?” Marbel screamed on the phone. Marie was confused, please what happened, my brain is in its locked mode now, I can't possibly think straight at the moment,” Marie replied to her sharply. “Alright, seems like you've been through a lot these past days, anyways.” She said but stopped speaking. Marie couldn't hear her again.
