Chapter 5. Failed Attempt

1076 Words
After some random checkups, Morris was confirmed okay and free to go. When Marie came outside, she saw her mom, Mr. Alessio and Vincent waiting patiently for them. She felt a happiness of being cared for. “Am sorry sir, my son and I ruined your party,” she said with a sad face. Mr Alessio smiled and took a deep breath. “The most important is that he is fine. I would have blamed myself so much if anything had happened to him,” he said, rubbing the sleeping Morris by the back. Her mom hugged them both with teary eyes while Vincent nodded and gave a faint smile. _ _ _ _ Back at the party hall, Verena smiled with confusion. She never meant to ruin the party but just wanted to make Marie break and cry. She won't be the only one hurting. Immediately, she saw Vincent's car drive in, she whispered to his assistant and left hurriedly. Marie saw her whispering to someone but couldn't see again after she came out of the car. She just hissed and took her son to a room that her mom showed her. Mr Alessio came out of the car and headed to the hall. Some of his guests had already left. He apologized to the remaining ones but the engagement couldn't continue anymore. He either refixed the date or just get a private engagement party with his family. “An enemy might have wanted to set him up because what just happened wasn't ordinary,” he thought to himself while settling down on one of the seats. Marie settled in and put Morris on the bed, while she went into the shower to take a quick bath. “She must get to the root of what happened that day. If anyone has issues with her, they shouldn't put it on her son,” she said to herself while bathing. Immediately she stepped out of the bathroom, she heard a slight knock on the door. Thinking it was her mom, she didn't bother putting on clothes, she just wrapped herself with a towel and opened the door gently. “s**t!” She gasped and closed the door immediately. Vincent swallowed hard. Even after birth, she still looks so hot and charming. The sight of her straight sexy legs couldn't leave his mind. Meanwhile, he had just brought her shoes that she left outside and just wanted to check on Morris. Marie opened the door again, fully clothed. “Any problem,” she asked him, looking down at his hands. “Oh! I forgot, thanks,” she said immediately, collecting her heels from him and locking the door immediately even before Vincent could say something. She took a heavy breath while she used her hands to check her racing heart. She sat on the bed still looking towards the door. Vincent was short of words, he couldn't believe he could feel that way after so many years. He had tried getting along with Verena a couple of times, but he had never felt this way with her. Now he was just standing in front of her door, with an open mouth, unable to say a word. He thought of knocking again, but he shoved off the idea. “I just wanted to check on Morris, is that too hard to say,” he whispered to himself, running his hands down his head, before leaving the front door. A few hours later, Marie and his son were already awake from their little slumber. Marie was on the phone with Marbel when a knock came on the door. “Hold on Marbel, I will call you back,” she said as she rushed to open the door thinking it was her mom this time. “Good evening ma'am, ur mom asked me to call you for dinner,” a woman in her late forties said standing in front of her door. “Sorry, you are?” Marie asked quietly, staring at the woman with a confused look. “Am Lucia, the housekeeper,” she answered with a slight smile. Please, dinner is set, she said one more time before she turned to leave. “Please, Mrs Lucia, can I get my dinner and that of my son inside here?” Marie asked in a pleading manner, causing her to turn back to her. “Sorry ma'am, boss wants all the family members to have dinner together,” she said, unsure of what Marie's problem was. “s**t,” Marie said almost like a whisper. “Ma, is there any problem?” Mrs Lucia asked, but Marie cut in immediately, “Not at all, I will be down shortly, thank you, Mrs Lucia.” Marie locked the door, while she immediately called Marbel back, “Guess what, girl! We are having family dinner right away,” she cried out while Morris watched his mom calmly. “Girl, I don't think that's a big deal, just dinner,” Marbel said laughing from her end. “Just step down, keep ur heads up and full percent composure, and you are good to go,” she continued. “Marbel, it's not as easy as that, but I got it,” Marie said, raising her eyebrows. “I have got to go, talk to you later.” “ Hey baby, we are going to the dining room for dinner, hurry up,” Marie said to Morris, taking him out of bed. “Yesss, can't wait to see grandpa and Uncle Vincent,” Morris gladly said. His mother shot him a dead look. “Uncle Vincent indeed,” Marie whispered while she hissed loudly. “See baby, we are just going to eat dinner, behave yourself out there, just stay close to me, okay?” Marie said, holding Morris' ears. “Okay mummy,” Morris cried out. They left for the dining room. Immediately Mr Alessio saw them, “Oh my baby boy!” Opening his arms widely, as Morris left his mother's hands and rushed into his embrace. “Grandpa,” he cried out. Marie was angry, Morris disobeyed her instructions. Vincent saw the look on her face and spread his hands with a slight smile. Marie, seeing Vincent's gesture, rolled her eyes and turned away. “ Who is laughing with you?” She said to herself while sitting close to her mom. “Hey mom,” Marie said, smiling broadly at her mom.
