Chapter 4. Ruin the Engagement

1047 Words
Marie didn't talk immediately, she was expecting her questions but not as direct as that. “He got engaged with more important things,” she replied, avoiding her mother's gaze. Her mom was stunned with her answer. “And what could be more important than his woman and child? Oh dear, you went through all this alone, why didn't you tell me?” she said, almost tearing up, holding Marie by her hands. “No mom, I was a bit far away, so I didn't want to disturb you,” she said, hugging her mom by the shoulder. She wasn't expecting her emotional outburst. “I could have been there for you at least,” her mom said while hugging her in tears. “Mom, today is ur day, you will ruin ur charming face," Marie said with a small smile, trying to c***k her up a bit. She hugged her tightly. Mrs. Lawrence's phone buzzed, she stepped out a bit to answer her call. While Marie settled in the calm environment, she looked in the direction of her son and would-be stepfather. They were both still having fun. Then she took out her phone to call her best friend Marbel. She probably has a lot to tell her. _ _ _ _ Vincent, still on the other side of the hall, was still shocked. He wasn't prepared for those moments, he looked out for Marie, ignoring Verena, who tried to initiate conversation with him. “Do you think Marie is married? Or she just had a baby?” he asked Verena without looking at her. “Do you think she would wait for you after all these years, man,” she replied coldly, staring at Vincent, who didn't even flinch or react. Verena had been pushing herself on Vincent for a long time, but he had told her that their relationship was strictly for business purposes. Verena had recalled what transpired five years ago, when Marie had misunderstood the scene she met without hesitation. “Only if Vincent would look at her, and give her a chance to love him,” she thought to herself. But she won't back down, not even now that she is back with a baby that looks like him. She would rather destroy them than let them reunite together. She knows deep down that Vincent loves Marie so much. Vincent looked around as if searching for something. He immediately waved at the thought of Marie. “afterall it wasn't entirely his fault that she left,” he thought to himself and continued with the arrangements he was doing before the whole thing. The halls were all arranged, the VIPs were filled with many dignitaries, the sound of music was echoing throughout the whole estate. It was time, Vincent went up onto the stage to welcome the whole guests. “On behalf of Romano's family, we welcome you all,” he said with a small smile, positioning himself well for the cameras. “Today is a big day for us, as we welcome new-found love into our family, after so many years.” He continued but paused for a moment, adjusting his tie, as he searched for Marie in the hall. He found her sitting close to the entrance, a bit far away from the center. He continued with his speech, about to introduce the couples of the moment. Then, he saw someone whisper something into Marie's ears, and she hurriedly left the hall in confusion. He lost focus for a bit, but then he noticed people walking up and down hastily. He asked his assistant to check what was happening, and he was told that a little boy was missing. “Morris!” He whispered to himself and immediately left the stage. He went outside and met his father, who was complaining bitterly. “I just kept him on one of those seats to attend to something. I came back and couldn't find him,” Mr. Alessio said, looking around. Vincent stormed out immediately, he felt a little scared, he didn't even know why. Everyone was scattered in various rooms in the building, the security was asked to lock the estate immediately. Marie was already in deep tears, wishing she never left him for Mr. Alessio. She had searched all the rooms she could reach out to, and then she remembered Verena. “She was the only one who was not happy with her coming,” she thought to herself, as she angrily stormed to the outside looking for her. Vincent was already in the last room, when he heard something fall in his father's study room. He rushed to the room and there he was lying helplessly on the floor. “Oh my God! Morris,” he called out as he hurriedly went to carry him. He had been crying before he slept off. He rushed out with Morris in his hands, running heavily while breathing on him. Marie confrontated Verena, who was a little nonchalant about the whole thing. But before she could say a word, she saw Vincent rush down with Morris in his hands. She quickly removed her heels and ran towards them. Vincent already gave orders to his driver to head to the hospital immediately. Marie joined him in the car, while she took her son from his hands, calling his name. Her mom and Vincent's father joined them but on a different ride, leaving the guest hanged up. At that moment, nothing was more important than the baby's life. Before they could reach the hospital, Morris woke up with a loud cry. “Mommy,” he cried out and hugged her tightly. “I'm here baby, mummy is here,” Marie cried out too, wiping his tears. Vincent watched them almost tearing up. Marie told him there was no need to head to the hospital anymore, but he insisted. “He can just run a medical checkup, let us be sure that be is very strong and healthy.” He replied in a worried tune. Marie looked at him with an unclear expression. “Did he just say us, or didn't she hear him correctly?” she thought to herself. She ignored the thought since that was not a good time to think of such.
