Chapter 1: The Freshman Girl
While I was busy filling out my information to receive a name tag with a senior, someone called out, "Hey, you!" and lightly tapped my arm. I looked up to see a beautiful woman with sharp features, fair yellow-toned skin, and a great figure—she was absolutely stunning—smiling sweetly at me.
"I'm May. What's your name?"
She introduced herself with a friendly smile as I turned to face her.
"I'm Phlengkhwan. Are you a freshman too?"
I responded with a smile of my own.
"Yes, I am! I'm in the computer science program. What about you?"
May answered with an enthusiastic grin.
"I'm in computer science too!"
I replied. Upon hearing that we were in the same program, May's face immediately lit up.
"Wow, that's awesome! Let's be friends—I feel such a good vibe from you!"
She exclaimed joyfully and hooked her arm around mine, her cheerful energy contagious enough to make me smile along with her.
"Okay, let’s be friends! You can just call me Phleng. We're already close now, right?"
I responded, laughing, while gently holding her arm that had wrapped around mine.
"Phlengkhwan and May, once you've got your name tags, head to the courtyard to wait with your friends!"
A senior handed us our name tags after we completed the registration process.
Let me introduce myself: I’m Khwanhathai Lertsiriwan, 19 years old, and a freshman in the Faculty of Education, majoring in Computer Science. Basically, I'm training to be a computer teacher. I have fair, pink-toned skin, a Chinese-inspired face, and I’m 160 cm tall. My looks are considered above average, and my hourglass figure, with curves in all the right places, is something many women aspire to. I’m an only child. My family isn’t wealthy—my parents run a plant shop. Wanting to ease their financial burden, I worked hard to earn a scholarship to study at this private university in the city.
"Phleng, after the freshman orientation activities, want to check out the café next to the engineering building? I heard their milkshakes and cakes are amazing!"
May suggested as we participated in our orientation. For the first month, all freshmen were required to join these activities after class every day.
"Sure, let’s go!"
I replied. After our orientation activities each day, May and I would stop by the café before heading home. Eventually, we became regulars at the shop.
A week had passed since the freshman orientation activities began. May and I participated in every event, and now the two of us had grown closer. Since we were both easygoing, it felt like we had known each other for years. At the moment, May and I were sitting in class.
"Plaeng, do you have plans to go anywhere today?" May asked, her tone playful, accompanied by a pleading look.
"These days, aside from attending classes, I just go back to my room. You’re the only one dragging me here and there so much that people probably think we’re dating by now," I teased, smirking at her. May already knew I wasn’t the type to go out unless she dragged me along. On top of that, she had a habit of hugging and kissing me often because she loved being affectionate. When she was in a good mood, she’d cling to my arm or lean on my shoulder if she was tired. I had gotten used to it.
Some guys would look at us with disappointment, thinking we were a couple, but I didn’t mind. I wasn’t interested in having a boyfriend right now anyway. Besides, my dear friend May already had a boyfriend—a third-year engineering student who happened to be friends with her brother. May’s boyfriend and her brother both studied mechanical engineering. I had never met either of them, though, since I wasn’t particularly interested.
"So, where exactly do you want to drag me this time?" I asked May, raising an eyebrow. She hesitated, looking shy and unsure before finally working up the courage to reply.
"Um... I want to invite you to a club. It’s my boyfriend Din Dan’s birthday today. You’re my best friend, so I really want you to meet my boyfriend and my brother. Come with me, please, Plaeng! Pretty please!" May clasped my arm, her face full of adorable determination.
Honestly, May and I were on par in terms of looks. May had a sharp, striking beauty and a naturally affectionate personality. On the other hand, I had a cute, soft, doll-like appearance but was more reserved and straightforward—not as bubbly as her. Despite our different personalities, we got along really well.
"We’re not even 20 yet. How are we supposed to get in?" I questioned, knowing that the legal age for clubs was 20, and we were only 19.
"Don’t worry! The club belongs to Win and Din Dan," May replied with confidence. It didn’t surprise me that May’s brother owned a club, considering her family was quite wealthy—practically loaded. But May was down-to-earth and didn’t act spoiled. She never looked down on me, even though my family wasn’t as well-off as hers.
"Please, Plaeng, my dearest friend! Come with me just this once!" May’s voice was as sweet as ever, her expression so convincing that I finally gave in.
"Fine, I’ll go. But I’m not drinking," I agreed, making it clear about my no-alcohol policy since I’d never drunk before.
"You’re the best, my awesome friend! I’ll pick you up at 9. Dress up and look gorgeous—who knows, you might snag an engineering hottie like I did! Hahaha!" she teased, laughing, while I rolled my eyes at her.
After that, I refocused on the assignment our teacher had given us. Once I finished, I got up and walked to the teacher’s desk to hand it in.
"Plaeng, could you please take these documents to Professor Ek on the 7th floor of the engineering building?" the teacher asked.
Professor Phim is the academic advisor for my class. Since I enjoy helping the professors with paperwork, we became quite close.
"Sure, Professor," I replied.
After handing in my assignment, May and I walked over to the engineering building, which had 10 floors. Professor Ek was a faculty member in the engineering department, and he was also the husband of my academic advisor.
"Plaeng, can you take the documents to Professor Ek alone? The enemy is attacking me. I'm havin an emergency, and I need to use the restroom urgently," May said, her face contorted in distress, making me laugh because her expression was so funny.
"Go deal with your 'emergency.' I'll just wait for you at the table in front of the building. Try not to be too loud; you don’t want to scare the engineering guys away," I teased, giving her a mocking look. May made a face at me before rushing off to the bathroom. I then took the elevator up to the 7th floor to deliver the documents to Professor Ek. After handing them over, I headed back to the elevator.
When the doors opened, I was slightly surprised to find three guys inside. They were wearing the red work shirts typical of engineering students, and all of them were incredibly handsome—like something out of a romance novel. But my eyes were drawn to the man standing in the middle. He had sharp features, fair skin, and was about 185 cm tall, but his gaze was intense and cold. I was so startled that I froze in place, and one of the men next to me noticed my reaction.
"Are you getting on?" he asked.
His voice snapped me back to reality, and I quickly stepped into the elevator, intending to press the button for the first floor. However, I realized that someone had already pressed the button for it. I stood there, surrounded by the three men, as the elevator descended to the 5th floor. The doors opened, and a crowd of male students flooded in. I had to step back, and before I knew it, my back was pressed against the man behind me. We were standing so close.
"I'm sorry," I said quickly, looking up to apologize. But since I was only as tall as his shoulder, I had to tilt my head upward. That’s when our eyes met. It was the same guy from earlier, the one with the intense gaze. Suddenly, my heart started beating faster. I quickly turned away and silently prayed for the elevator to hurry up and reach the first floor.
Part: Mavin
My name is Kittikawin Techawongwarakun, but everyone calls me Mavin. I'm a 21-year-old third-year mechanical engineering student. I’m known as the "Ice Prince," the popular guy in the engineering faculty. I got this nickname because I tend to be quiet, rarely speak, and often come off as cold, especially toward women who try to approach me. I don’t like women who make the first move. To put it simply, I’m single and still a virgin because I’ve never been intimate with anyone. It’s not that I don’t want to, but I only want to be with someone I truly like. I had a girlfriend in my first year, but we broke up after less than three months because I found out she had been cheating on me. I ended it without hesitation, not feeling any sadness because I hadn’t really fallen in love with her. I only wanted to try having a girlfriend, but I didn’t want anything serious. She came back begging for forgiveness and kept pushing me, but I got annoyed and told her to stop. I didn’t stop her from dealing with the other girls who tried to approach me, either. I actually preferred it when she took care of them for me. I’m not exactly a great guy, so I didn’t feel sorry for the women my ex dealt with.
