Chapter 2. It's Impossibe

1198 Words
Nathanael Stormrider She was the most unattractive girl I had ever seen. Her appearance was outdated, and her face looked plain and stupid. Besides, she was just a lowly omega working as a waitress at the restaurant where I usually had lunch. As the son of the number one clan in the Wildblood pack, there was no reason for me to even glance at a girl like her. Her coworker, Alice, was much more beautiful and appealing. Oh, that girl couldn’t compare to Alice’s charm and sexiness. But now, that girl—Aleena Wilder—was at the very top of my hate list. It all began that night when she suddenly appeared in my dreams, and I had a vivid vision of my future with her. Since then, I’ve felt an emotional bond with Aleena. Yet, every time that feeling surfaces when I see her at the restaurant where she works, I stubbornly deny it. This can’t be happening. Aleena was the least likely girl in the entire Wildblood pack I would ever consider. I kept rejecting my own instincts. Why her? A girl I had never even thought about before? This must be some kind of mistake. That day, I was fortunate enough to unleash my hatred on Aleena. The clumsy girl spilled a drink on my shirt, and it gave me the perfect opportunity to show her how much I despised her—before she realized that she was my mate. Damn it. Just saying the word mate in reference to Aleena made me feel disgusted. "Prince Nathan, your father is calling for you." I turned to see Kai standing by the door, bowing slightly. "What is it?" I asked lazily. "I don’t know. An envoy from Alpha Alexander requested your presence." I frowned. It wasn’t like my father to summon me unless I had made a serious mistake. As far as I could remember, I hadn’t done anything recently to anger him. But whatever. I might as well go. I started my Rolls-Royce and sped off to my father’s castle. Upon arrival, the atmosphere felt different. The leaders of Wildblood’s main clans were gathered in the grand meeting hall, their eyes following me as I walked in. Among them, I noticed my brother, Adrian, sitting on my father’s right. His expression was calm, as always, filled with a composed demeanor that often irritated me. Alpha Alexander, my father, sat in the main chair. Despite his age showing, his presence was still intimidating. He motioned for me to come closer. "Nathan, take a seat here." I followed his gesture without protest, taking a seat to his left. I briefly scanned the room, trying to gauge what was going on. No one spoke, and no one gave any hints. Alpha Alexander stood up, and the room instantly fell silent. He looked at each person in the room with his piercing gaze before finally starting his speech. "As you all know, I have led Wildblood for more than three decades," he began, his voice deep and commanding, filling the room with authority. "But age has caught up with me. It’s time for me to pass this position to the next generation. I wish to retire and spend the rest of my life in peace." I frowned, trying to process his words. Was this why he called me here? But something in his serious expression told me there was more to come. "I have decided," he continued, his voice firm, "that my successor will be my eldest son, Nathanael Stormrider." A small sense of pride crept into me. Of course. I knew this day would come. I was the eldest son, the one most suited to lead. I was ready to take on this responsibility— "But," my father added, and that single word froze the almost-smile forming on my face. "But what?" I asked impatiently, not bothering to hide my irritation. Alpha Alexander looked at me with a gaze that was difficult to read. "There is one condition you must fulfill before I pass this power to you." I frowned, trying to decipher the meaning behind his words. "What condition?" "I want you to marry your mate. The girl who has been destined for you." His words hung in the air like a bomb. I felt my entire body stiffen. I knew what he was about to say next, and I desperately hoped I was wrong. "Aleena Wilder," he said. "She is your mate." I stood so quickly that my chair nearly toppled over. "What?!" I shouted, my voice rising. I noticed the surprised expressions on everyone else’s faces, but I didn’t care. My father remained calm, his gaze unwavering. "She is the girl destined for you. As the future Alpha, you must accept your destiny, Nathan." "No way!" I snarled, my teeth gritting in fury. "She’s just a lowly omega! How could I, the eldest son of the most powerful clan, marry someone like her?" "Nathan," my father said in a warning tone, "Status does not matter. Destiny doesn’t care about ranks or clans. Aleena is your mate. And you know how vital the mate bond is for an Alpha. Without it, you won’t have the full strength to lead." I shook my head vehemently, trying to process the absurdity of his words. Aleena Wilder? That foolish, clumsy girl? The one who spilled a drink on my shirt and dared to humiliate me in public? "This has to be a joke," I said, my voice low but seething with anger. "I’m not joking," my father replied. "This is a decision I’ve given much thought to. If you refuse, then I will pass the power to Adrian." My eyes immediately darted to Adrian, who sat as composed as ever. His cold gaze showed no emotion, as if he had known about this all along. "I don’t need a mate to lead," I said, my hands gripping the sides of my chair tightly as I tried to suppress the fury boiling inside me. "I can lead without her." "No, you can’t," my father interrupted sharply. "I’ve told you before, Nathan. You’ve had your time to play around. The mate bond is the core of an Alpha’s power. Without it, you won’t just lose your strength—you’ll lose the respect of the entire Wildblood pack." I wanted to argue, to tell him he was wrong, that I could prove him wrong. But deep down, I knew my father never changed his decisions once they were made. "Adrian," my father called, turning to my brother. "If Nathaniel refuses, you will take over as Alpha. Are you ready?" Adrian looked at our father with respect. "I am always ready, Father," he said calmly. Hearing his answer made my blood boil. I knew Adrian had always been our father’s favorite. He was perfect in every way—calm, wise, and always obedient. The thought of Aleena Wilder haunted me. That girl, with her plain face and outdated appearance, was the last person in the world I wanted as a partner. Yet now, she was the barrier between me and the throne that should rightfully be mine. Damn it. Why her? ***
