Prologue
Somewhere in Paris, 2003 CE
The weather seemed very pleasant in the morning that day with the sweet sunlight but soon it turned into something very unusual as it was.
Mrs. Miller looked out of the window, eagerly waiting for her son to return home. His phone unreachable when called, first but soon the phone had turned dead when called again by the telephone.
It was raining cats and gods and thundering so loudly outside as if it was the last day of the Earth before a h*******t struck, causing absolute destruction of the entire world.
It was December and extremely cold and as far as she could remember, Mrs. Miller hardly ever saw it rain so much especially when the sky looked pretty clear in the morning. Also the weather report on television that had been telecasted the previous day or today had not predicted any sudden change of climate.
Though it was quite usual that the opposite what the news report said occurred anyways.
Mrs. Miller couldn’t care less about the weather if not for her son. She was almost always indoors- either knitting, reading books or watching the television.
Mrs. Miller half-heartedly opened one of her newly bought books, and sat down near the fire place in with the warmth of fire wrapping her around her like a rather comfortable blanket.
As she absent-mindedly read through the first chapter of the book, her eyes often stole a glace at the now closed window, though the vision outside was hazy due to droplets of rain that stuck to the glass of the window.
Another lightning struck the ground, somewhere near, followed by the booming noise of thunder that echoed in the sky.
The pet dog of Miller Household, Oscar barked loudly, scared due to the loud noise outdoors.
“See what Oscar wants, Emma. Give him food and water if hungry or maybe take him to the inner chambers of the mansion. Even required give him a rug to chew on but just make him stop barking, for God’s sake!”, Mrs. Miller exclaimed rather irritated making Emma, the maid, scurry off as fast as she could on her feet to do as she was commanded to.
Mrs. Pandora Miller had never felt so worried. She got on her feet and started walking up and down across the room, trying to calm herself as she felt anxiety built up inside her. An unknown fear had slowly crept it’s way into her heart.
Pandora Miller or simply Mrs. Miller was a rather patient and kind lady, being polite to one and all but today she couldn’t just help it.
Soon tired of walking aimlessly, she sat down back on her couch.
The rain still consistent as ever, she decided to divert her mind into something else, something she avoided thinking about.......her past.
As she watched the fire burn bright in the fireplace, she recollected the memories of her childhood, back in the countryside, helping out in the family farm. Her memories moved to her love affair with Mr. Miller which had been quite the talk of the town, then her marriage and kids and all the events that followed...until...until...
Mrs. Miller’s chain of thoughts were interrupted by the loud honkings of a car followed by Oscar’s barking, but this time he was barking with joy, rather happily and not in fear.
Mrs. Miller stormed out of her room, half relieved – half angry over her son’s ignorance.
As she approached the door to open it, she saw Oscar sitting near the door happily wagging his tail in a rather violent motion as if wanting to say that 'master is home !!’.
As she opened the door, ready to greet her son with a million of questions in her booming loud anger laced voice, but she stood when she saw him standing there, his coat looking a bit wet on the outlines, with a basket in his hands.
“What’s in your hand, Adonis ?”, She asked as she peeped into the basket.
In the basket, lay a baby boy dressed in tiny clothes, of yellow and then wrapped in a red blanket, sleeping silently and peacefully.
“Wh.....Wh...a.....where did you find..”, she gasped out as she took the baby boy out of the basket into her own arms.
“As I was heading home mother, I found that due to the heavy rain the usual high way had been clogged with rain water and so I had to take another way, through the woods which took rather long to reach home. As I was halfway, I saw that a strange looking wolf who was rather wounded sitting near the hollow of a tree. As I approached the animal to help it when I saw something laying in that hollow but the wolf stood up alerted by my presence. It growled at me, trying to scare me off but I didn’t. Slowly after some time, it smelled me slowly and knew I was up to no harm, it let his guard down and let me see what was there. And in the hollow lay this basket with the baby in it. As I carefully picked up the basket and looked around to help the wolf, it had already disappeared somewhere.”, Adonis finished narrating what had happened.
“Oh goodness ! Wait! See there is something in this basket.”, Mrs. Miller said to her son as she looked at the infant, full of affection.
He looked so innocent, untouched by the evils of the world, so pure.
Adonis looked at the basket to find a piece of torn cloth in it. On the cloth, was written
“Please keep him safe.”, with something red.
Adonis smelled it, only to be surprised once he recognised what it was.
BLOOD !!
