Chapter Ten - Confessions

Luka's POV

“Dad, can I talk to you?” I said as I entered his office where he was still working. His road as an Alpha had been difficult and he never stopped working for our pack.

“What's going on bud?” My dad said, apparently sensing my nerves and urgency. I sat down across from him as he packed up whatever it was he was looking at to give me his full attention.

“Serenity's in trouble. You're going to be mad, that's okay. Before I start, can you please call someone discreetly, without her parents finding out, to watch her? She's in my room. That will make sense in a minute.” I told him. He gave me a very distinct raised eyebrow but did as I asked. “Serenity made a mistake. She's been dating someone at school. It's the Alpha's son from Hell Moon.” Hell Moon was one of our largest rivals. “Kale is his name. I've hated him since day one, before I knew she was my mate. He has always been awful to her. He was mentally and physically abusive but she refused to ever let it go. She loved him. When he turned seventeen, he told her she was his mate. I reminded her how illegal that was and that he would never risk being a rogue to tell her that if it was true. As we've gotten closer and he's gotten worse and worse to her, she's wanted to break up with him but he intimidates her so badly that she was terrified. After what happened the other night, I think she decided she'd rather date me and was going to break up with him. Kale's mother is a strong witch who had a vision that Serenity was going to break up with Kale. Kale gifted her a bracelet for her birthday. It's enchanted with strong magic and as soon as he put it on her, it clamped tightly around her wrist. It cannot be taken off or cut off. It has to be done with magic. While she's wearing it, he can find her anywhere. He can track the bracelet and wherever she goes, he can find her. He told her she will be his forever and carry his pups whether she likes it or not. I'm the only one, besides you now, that knows, and I couldn't leave her at her house where her parents didn't know to watch her.” I explained.

“Holy s**t, Luka. I want to lecture you for not telling me, but I know now isn't the time. Do her parents know anything at all yet?” My dad asked.

“Nothing. She's telling them tomorrow. I still haven't told her that she's my mate, so she won't be able to tell them that. She can tell them we're dating, which is true, but not the mate thing. Can you call her parents and tell them she's staying over here with Melanie? I plan to keep her in my room.” I said, he cringed. “I know dad, but she's my mate, I can't leave her right now. I can't take it.”

“I know. I know. I wouldn't leave your mother or Kya either. I'm proud of you. Tonight, I'll increase protections around the house. I'll call Erika, the priestess, immediately and have her here tomorrow if possible. We'll go together to talk to Serenity's parents. She can explain. Then I'll talk to Seth father to father once Serenity is out of the room and let him know you are her mate. That will allow you guys more time together.” My dad said.

I was satisfied with that plan and went back to Serenity. I filled her in on the conversation and she fell asleep. I stayed awake longer to hold her and process the night.

The next morning, I woke Serenity up with gentle kisses on her head and we got dressed quickly before meeting my dad downstairs. As soon as we went into the meeting office, Seth and Makayla, who were the pack's Betas and Serenity's parents, came in as well. Serenity was shaking and I gave her hand a gentle squeeze. My mom came in as well as the Luna, and we all sat down.

“First of all, Luka and I are a thing. It's only important because I'll be leaning on him a lot to get through what I'm about to tell you.” Serenity said.

She went on to explain everything from the beginning. She cried a lot and apologized a lot. Her parents stayed mostly silent other than a few words of understanding here and there. Her mom even reached over to hold her hand. I made a few comments about how abusive Kale was to her because I knew Serenity would never have admitted it.

When she was done explaining, everyone was silent. My dad finally spoke up to explain that the high priestess, Erika, would be there today to remove the bracelet but extra security measures may need to be taken to protect Serenity for a while.

“I'm disappointed you broke the rules, Serenity, but I can't bring myself to be angry with you after you've been dealing with so much on your own. You should have come to us, you can come to us with anything. I'd so much rather we be angry about something for a moment than have you endure something so scary on your own.” Seth said. I could tell he was furious with Kale, and as Serenity's father, he should be.

“Why don't the ladies have some tea while the three of you discuss some security measures?” My mom said. She'd no doubt been filled in by my dad and was using this as an excuse to have a private conversation with Seth. Serenity looked fearful, but we assured her it wouldn't be long and she was in good hands.

Once the women were out of the room. My dad looked at me and I knew it was my queue to take my stand and do the responsible thing. I had to tell Seth myself.

“Seth. I don't know how to say this except for directly. Serenity is my mate. I found out on my birthday. She obviously doesn't know yet, and I won't tell her. She's chosen to be with me without the mate bond, but it is a huge concern of hers. She is constantly worried about when we find our mates. I promise I will protect her through all of this, but I hope you understand if I am an unwilling to leave her.” I said. Seth stayed silent for several minutes.

“That is insane. You know, when I lost your mother, Luka. I was crushed. When she went to be with Kayne, err, your father, I thought every single day about getting her back. You came along and as much as I wanted her back, I was spiteful. Once Serenity came along – it was almost like my bond with your mother was broken. We never wanted each other. She had you with Kayne and I had Serenity with Makayla and that's when everything changed. She was my mate, but that meant nothing anymore. We felt nothing. Maybe this whole situation that occurred with all of us was just setting up the two of you to be mates. This happened because the Moon Goddess always knew you two would be together well before your parents even knew each other. Maybe your mother and I were never really meant for each other, it was a huge set up to make sure you and Serenity were together. So crazy.” Seth said.

He was my mom's natural mate, but they were actually never really together after being teenagers. They had Mika together when they tried to make their bond work, but my mom already had me with my dad and Serenity was born around the same time as Mika to Seth and Makayla. Our sets of parents were always close because of the way their lives worked out, but I also wondered if the Goddess had a funny way of knowing how it would turn out.
