3. The Creature

1104 Words
I woke up in the creature's arms. I felt his heartbeat against the side of my face; I could feel his furs on my skin, and it made me shudder mildly. I sat up with its help, and looked it in the eyes. "You, you're Jace?" He made a sound that I believe was an affirmation. I observed him some more, wondering how it could be possible. How can the human body produce something so...magnificent? He licked my face with his tongue. I felt disgusted by it, but I tried my best not to make him feel bad by smiling at him. He carried me up effortlessly and started to run deeper into the thick forest. I felt his heartbeat against the side of my face as he ran. Oh Lord, don't let me be his meal. We arrived at his destination and he placed me on the ground. I looked around in awe; we were at a lake surrounded by hills. My mouth hung open as I observed the scenery before me. Breathtaking. It looked like a picture out of a fantasy storybook. For some incomprehensible reason, the water glowed under the moonlight, giving it an enchanting and ethereal look. The air was warm and soothing to my skin, unlike the other parts of the forest. He took my hand and led me to a rock overlooking the magical sight and directed me to sit on it, which I did. How could a place be so beautiful? With every passing second, I fell in love with what I saw. I turned to the creature sitting next to me. His eyes were focused on mine; they told a thousand stories... he brought his snout close to my face and sniffed me. An action that tickled. "Can you change back?" I asked out of curiosity. Before the words left my mouth, he began his transformation back to human form until all I could see was a hot, naked man right beside me. He smiled. "Now you see why I have the clothes stored near the tree." I giggled. "Aren't you shy?" "Why would I be? I've stood naked in front of my family before, no big deal". He then relaxed against the rock, staring up at the moon. He is gorgeous. What's with werewolf people and their flawless looks? He turned to me and caught me staring. "You must be wondering why I'm so hot". He laughed. That was when my eyes went to the exact place they weren't supposed to, and I looked away, flushed. "It's okay, seriously". He laughed at my reddened face. I looked straight ahead, admiring the lake yet again. His voice came from beside me. "Legend has it that the moon goddess appears to her devotees here at this lake. How cool is that?" I smiled. "That'd be so awesome". "Esnie". He whispered. I focused on his face. "Hm?" He stared at me for a minute. "I am glad I met you. I thought my life would end up with me all alone, but you came and changed everything." "What exactly did I do?" He brought his face closer. "By just being you". He brought his lips to kiss me, but I turned my face away. "I would like us to return, please?" I said. "Sure thing. Hop on!" He laughed. He transformed into his counterpart and sped us both back to the spot where his clothes were. He got dressed and we returned to the house. Everyone was done eating and some had gone upstairs, while others stayed downstairs to watch TV—and to guard the house. Rowena came to say hi, and we got lost in our chitchats. Some other girls in the 'pack' made demeaning comments about me to my hearing. Mainly because I'm human and cannot be matched to their alpha or whatever. One, in particular, walked up to Jace where he was sitting with his friends, watching a TV show. She sat down close to him, too close to him for my comfort. I felt my blood boil for some reason. I wanted to go up there and slap the life out of her. "Reina". Came Rowena's voice from beside me. "She is the beta's sister. Everyone thought she and Jace would become mates when they turned sixteen, but it didn't happen, and now she's stuck with a looser omega whom she can't stand. Life sucks for her big time." "Why is she glued to Jace like that if she already has a mate?" "Just cause she can. Her mate is terrified of her and can't stand up to her". I rose from the sofa, strode over to where they were sitting, and stood in front of them. Jace appeared to be angry about something, but I didn't care. " "Off, I want to sit here". I told her. She sized me up with her eyes. "There are seats everywhere, go sit there". She said dismissively. "No, I want to sit here". I said firmly. A little scared at the fact that she's a werewolf and could easily bite my head off. "You heard her Reina, go". Jace glared at her. "But Jace! She's only been here less than a day, you've known me your whole life". She whined like a hungry hippo. "Doesn't mean anything, go, Reina!" He ordered. "But Jace..." "You heard him, Reindeer, leave!" I wondered where I got the courage from. She got up and walked up to my face. "You've earned yourself a powerful enemy". Then she walked off. Jace got up and was about to embrace me, but I wasn't having it... no way! I walked out on him. He followed me... I went upstairs and tried to find my way back to the room I woke up in. "Esnie, wait, what did I do wrong?" I stopped abruptly and faced him. "You don't know what you did wrong? You let her sit so close to you, that's what you did wrong." "It's not as it seems, believe me, hear me out first..." I continued my search until I realized I was lost. I returned to him, a little embarrassed. "Uhm, where is that room?" He grinned at my red face, but went ahead and showed me the particular door. I entered and shut the door in his face. That serves him right. I lay down and mentally questioned myself: "Why am I even upset with him? I just turned down a kiss from him, yet, I get mad when another girl goes near him. What's wrong with me? Before I could think further, I fell asleep.
