Sage's POV
After about 20 minutes, Sebastian came back from upstairs. He came downstairs with a look of concern. He sat on the couch and put her arm around me. He brushed his dark hair back with his other hand.
"So, you obviously can't stay here. I called my parents, and we can stay at their house," he said with hesitation in his voice. I stared at the hole where the front door used to be. I then looked at the hole in the wall where the bay window used to be. He is right that I can't stay here, but I haven't been anywhere else. What if those people come back and ransack the house?
"That is fine, but we need to lock up some things before we go," I said as I moved towards my parents bedroom. It was still destroyed. Broken furniture covered the floor like confetti. I went into my parents closet and grabbed an old chest. It had a lock on the front with a number combination. My dad told me the code many years ago, 12421, but it has never opened when I put that in. I once tried to use bolt cutters to break the lock, but the only thing that broke was the bolt cutters. "We have to take this with us," I said as I handed it to Sebastian. He looked at it confused then just shook his head in agreement. I then grabbed my parents wedding photo and started walking upstairs. I went into my room and grabbed my duffle bag and filled it with some pajamas, clothes, and other necessities. As I walked out of my room, I saw Sebastian standing in front of the door to my mom's old office.
"What's this room?" he said without looking at me
"My mom used to use this room for her studies and work. I've never actually been in there. I wasn't allowed to as a kid, and now the room just won't open," I replied. It is true. Similar to the lock on the chest, the lock on the door would not open for me. I never knew what my mom did for a living or what she did in that room. Sometimes a green or pink glow would illuminate from under the door. Sometimes the smell of flowers and sweets would drift into my room from there. On bad days, we would have to leave the house due to the smell of whatever my mom was doing. I never realized until tonight how many secrets my parents kept from me.
"Interesting, do you need to grab anything else?" Sebastian said without breaking eye contact with the door.
"Nope, I got everything I need just for one night," I said. Thankfully it was Friday night so that I could spend the weekend fixing the house. Sebastian finally looked at me and grabbed my bag. Our fingers brushed against each other for a split second. I loved it when Sebastian touched me. It was like sparks would shoot through my body. It was addicting.
I followed him to his car. We put my things into his car, and he started to back out of my driveway. I watched us pull away from my home. The place I grew up was now staring at me broken. A sadness took over my body as tears formed in the corner of my eyes. We rode in silence for about 20 minutes before Sebastian broke the silence.
"So, I must warn you a little bit about my family. We aren't like your typical family," he said while watching the road, "My family kind of owns this giant piece of land. Its almost considered a small town, and a bunch of other family's also live on the land. We kinda live together as a community. There are schools, hospitals, libraries and more on the land. My dad is kinda in charge of the community, and my brother will take over one day. We live in a pretty big house in the middle of the property. I just want to warn you before we pull up to the fence," he said quickly as if he was nervous to tell me. I sat there and thought for a minute.
"Wait, please don't tell me your family is in a cult," I snapped at him quickly.
