Sebastian's POV
Damien finally let me take control so that I can call my dad. It was still storming outside, and rain was coming into the house from the broken doorway and windows. Sage sat on the couch wrapped in a blanket. She stared ahead at the hole in the wall from where the bay window once was. I went into her bathroom upstairs and called my dad.
"Hey son, where the hell are you?" he said seeming slightly distracted. I could hear my family eating dinner in the background, and my mother was telling my dad to give her the phone.
"So you remember that girl, Sage, that I was telling you about? Well I'm at her house, and three rogues just broke into her house. It's a long story, but I need to bring her back to our place for at least the night. Is that okay?" I whispered into the phone.
"Oh, that should be fine. Do you know why they attacked her?" he tried to whisper so that my mother didn't hear him. She clearly did hear him, because I heard a loud "her?" come from my mother. There was a static and sound of shuffling with the phone.
"Who is this "her?" When do I get to meet her? Is she your mate?" my mother's voice suddenly appeared.
"Her name is Sage. You will meet her tonight, but there is something important I need everyone to know before I bring her over. Can you put me on speaker phone? I assume the whole family is together," I replied exhausted from my mother and the fight. I heard a click on the line.
"I put you on speaker. Can you hear me?" my mother yelled into the phone.
"Just because you put me on speaker, it doesn't mean you need to yell," I whispered while distancing the phone from my ear, "Sage is very scared right now. I know her father was a werewolf who was apparently killed by werewolves. So now she is terrified of wolves, werewolves, etc. When we come to the house, no wolves need to be out or seen. Everyone has to act completely human." There was a long pause before anyone spoke.
"Is she your mate?" my mother asked with a flat voice.
"Yes," I reluctantly told her. There was another long pause.
"How long do we have to get word to everyone in the pack? Border patrol and others will have to wait until you arrive before they can shift into their wolves. Once she gets here, she comes into the house and doesn't leave or go outside," my father said with urgency in his voice.
"Maybe an hour between packing her things and the drive in this weather," I replied. I didn't want to bring Sage home to my parents just yet, but I couldn't leave her here. I thought about getting a hotel room for her, but that felt icky. Also, I couldn't let her be alone, not now. What if she got attacked again? Damien and I shared the same question. That's the only reason I called my parents. "Also, one of the rogues said 'Lavender Grove will be back.' Do we know anything about Lavender Grove?" I questioned. There was another long pause.
"f**k. Are you sure she's your mate?" my father said angrily.
"Yes, we are sure. Well, we are 99.9% sure," I said with hesitation. He clearly knows something about Lavender Grove and whatever it is, it scares him.
"What do you mean that you're not 100% sure?" my mother inquired
"Well, Sage technically doesn't have a wolf. Well we can smell there is a wolf in her, but it hasn't come out yet. So we know she's our mate, but her wolf hasn't come out to confirm it," I hastily tried to explain. I know my parents are only going to allow her to come onto the property and protect her if she is my mate. If she wasn't, they wouldn't take the risk. There was another long pause.
"We will see you in an hour," my father said followed by a click. I took a deep breath and stared into the mirror. What have I gotten myself into? As I looked into the mirror, something on the sink caught my eye. It was the stone. The smokey gray crystal that I had taken from Sage's parents' room. Did I mess something up by moving this stone? Am I the reason they found Sage?
