Blurb

I was never meant to belong to him.

He’s the monster whispered about in every corner of the pack—cold, ruthless, untouchable. My sworn enemy.

But fate has a cruel sense of humor.

One night, one reckless mistake, and I find myself trapped in his world—bound to him by a bond I never wanted.

His shadows cling to me. His voice haunts my every thought. His touch burns like sin.

Every instinct screams for me to run…

But how do you escape the one your soul is tied to?

Under the Silver Moon
The full moon hung heavy in the sky, spilling silver light across the forest. Nina ran wild beneath it, her paws thudding softly against the damp earth. Her fur was as white as snow, gleaming in the glow, and her golden eyes shone like burning embers. On nights like this, she felt untouchable. Powerful. Free. The cool night breeze rushed through her coat, carrying the scent of pine, moss, and the faint trace of dew. This was what she lived for—the thrill of the run, the call of the moon, the wildness in her blood. But freedom never lasted. After a long sprint, she slowed and padded toward an old hollow tree that had always felt like a safe place. With a shimmer, her wolf form gave way to her human body—slender, glowing in the moonlight. Shivering slightly, she pulled a folded blanket from a crevice in the bark and wrapped it tightly around herself. For a moment, she simply leaned against the tree, breathing hard. And then the memories came. Her mother’s words echoed in her head: “Nina, you are destined for greater things. Don’t ever forget it—or lose yourself along the way.” This was the very tree where her mother used to rest with her after their moonlit runs. Nina had been only five then, her mother’s face already fading from memory, like a dream slipping away no matter how hard she tried to hold on. Tears blurred her vision. “I miss you, Mum,” she whispered, her voice breaking into the night. “Ohhh, Nina. You promised tonight wouldn’t end with you crying again.” Nina jumped, startled, and wiped at her face quickly. Spinning around, she found her best friend, Andreina, standing behind her with her arms crossed and lips puckered into a playful pout. “I wasn’t crying,” Nina sniffed. “Please. You could fool anyone else, but not me.” Andreina shook her head, pretending to sulk. “It hurts that you even try.” Nina gave her a guilty smile. “Sorry…” With a soft sigh, Andreina knelt beside her and pulled her into a warm hug. “You should know by now I hate seeing you like this.” Nina let her head rest against her friend’s shoulder. “Your hugs always lighten my mood.” Andreina smiled and brushed a hand through Nina’s hair. “That’s what best friends are for. Or in our case… best best friends.” Nina let out a small laugh, but her chest still ached. Her mother’s voice came back again, more vivid this time. “Mum, why are my eyes golden? Why are they different from the rest of the pack?” Her mother had bent down, brushing Nina’s hair from her face with a soft smile. “Your eyes are golden because you’re different. Because you’re meant for bigger things, Nina. One day, you’ll fulfill a destiny even greater than our pack.” “But the other kids laugh at me,” Nina had said, lips trembling. “They may laugh,” her mother had whispered, “but Andreina doesn’t.” Even then, little Andreina had been by her side. “My only friend,” Nina had murmured that night. “One good friend is enough to get you through life,” her mother had said firmly. “With time, you’ll understand.” Nina blinked back to the present, her chest loosening with relief. Her mother had been right. Andreina really was enough. But then Andreina’s voice snapped her back to now. “Hellooo? Are you even listening to me?” “Um…” Nina sat up straighter. “Of course I am.” “Liar.” “I wouldn’t lie to you.” “Oh no. Don’t you dare.” But Nina already had her golden puppy eyes fixed on her friend, and Andreina groaned. “Ugh. You know I can’t resist those. It’s so unfair.” “See? Works every time,” Nina said with a smirk. Andreina rolled her eyes dramatically. “Anyway, we need to get to the Dupre Tree. Remember last time we forgot? The elders nearly had heart attacks.” Nina stifled a laugh. “Don’t remind me. I thought they were going to explode.” “You nearly did explode from holding your laughter in,” Andreina teased. “Your face turned red as a tomato.” They both burst out laughing, the sound echoing into the night. “Race you there!” Andreina said suddenly, leaping to her feet. “Loser has to dance in front of the fox at the next full moon.” “What? No way! You’re the one who’s going to embarrass yourself!” Nina cried. “In your dreams,” Andreina shot back, already stretching. They grinned at each other like children. Then—together—they shifted, their human forms dissolving into fur and claws. With a whisper of luna, the transformation was complete. Side by side, they sprinted into the night, weaving between trees, their laughter mixing with the pounding of paws against the earth. For a moment, the world was nothing but joy and speed. But then it happened. A howl cut through the forest—low, deep, and unlike any howl they had ever heard before. It wasn’t the call of their pack. It was darker. Colder. Both wolves froze mid-stride. Nina’s golden eyes widened, her heart hammering in her chest. The air itself had changed. The forest was no longer safe. Andreina glanced at her nervously. And Nina knew—whatever awaited them on the path to the Dupre Tree, it wasn’t just the elders. Something else was waiting in the shadows. Something that would change everything.
