Chapter 00012

Chapter 12 Scarlett's pov As I returned to my room, my conscience gnawed at me all afternoon at how I had spoken to Nora. She didn't deserve to bear the brunt of my annoyance and I wished I could apologize to her. Nora was the only one I had on my side at the moment and I couldn't jeopardize that if I wished to remain in this pack and most importantly find out who was responsible for the attack. With these thoughts in mind, I rose from my bed and headed towards the kitchen with the intention of making cookies, Nora's favourite snack, as a peace offering. There were some omegas still in the kitchen, finishing up on their work and as I stepped in, all the eyes landed on me. I let out a deep breath as I slowly closed the door behind me and planted a meek expression on my face as I headed towards the drawer. "Where do you think you are going?" A voice called out behind me and I stopped in my tracks. "Hi, I was actually hoping I could get help?" I began with an unsure smile as I stared at the omega who was glaring at me. I remembered her but I couldn't quite place her name. "You think you can just waltz in here like you own the place rogue?" She gritted out and I blanked. It took me a second to recall I was merely a rogue, a wolf beneath even omegas and I was basically at their mercy. "I'm sorry, I just wanted to get something for Nora," I explained and it wasn't lost on me that if they knew I was their Luna they would never have spoken to me as they dared to now. "Just because Nora brought you into this pack doesn't make you any better than us." The woman continued as she glared at me and I noticed a small crowd forming around me. Fear trickled through me as I knew how this worked, they were always the lowest in the pack and now that they had someone lower than them, it was time to exert what little power they could. "I know that, I meant no harm." I pleaded. As much as I would have liked to show them I wasn't scared of them I couldn't blow my cover. I needed the omegas, servants who knew everything about the pack and heard all the gossip. Making an enemy of them wouldn't serve my cause. "She meant no harm," the woman turned to the other omegas beside her as she mockingly laughed and the omegas joined her. I stared blankly at them and even though I saw it coming, I did not attempt to stop the omega's flying hand which landed on my cheek and sent me to the floor. Tears pricked the back of my eyes as my cheek throbbed and some of the omegas cheered in delight. "Where is Nora to protect you now?" They mocked and I remained silent as I tried to pick myself off the floor. "Stay there, that's where all you rogues belong. What were you thinking coming to this pack?" The omega asked as she kicked me right in my gut and I doubled over in pain. The omega crunched down in front of me and I waited for her to deliver another attack. "I don't know what you did to blind Nora and even alpha Silas but trust me rogue, I'm going to make your life a living hell until you decide to leave this pack." Her eyes glistened with promise but I remained silent. There was no point in telling her I wasn't going anywhere until I had gotten what I wanted. "Eva that's enough," a voice called out to her, and the omega rose and turned to face the other woman. "What will we do if Nora comes in?" The other woman asked as her eyes darted from me to the door fearfully. The woman stared at me with silent sadness as though she wished there was a way she could speak up for me but she didn't know how without making the others turn on her. "She would be grateful because we are practically doing the whole pack a great service by getting rid of this rogue," Eva retorted as she turned back to me and stared at me with contempt. "Why are you in our pack?" Eva asked me as she yanked my hair till I was staring into her blazing eyes. "You think you are too mighty to answer me?" She screamed in my face when I remained silent. "What is going on here?" Nora's voice boomed throughout the room and Eva immediately let go of my hair as she turned to face her. I let out a deep sigh of relief as I knew my torture had finally come to an end as Nora appeared like an angel from the moon goddess herself. "I asked a question," Nora growled when no one responded and I slowly rose to my feet and Nora's lips parted in shock as she took in my appearance. The omegas moved out of her way when Nora approached me with pure fire in her eyes. "Who did this to you?" She gritted out and I remained silent even as she took my hand. "Answer me," she probed but I squeezed her hand and subtly shook my head, telling her to drop it but I already knew she wouldn't. "This is the last time I'm going to ask, who did this?" Nora's voice trembled as she turned to the omegas who took a hesitant step back. As I scanned their faces now, Eva was nowhere to be seen. When had she moved away from me? "Fine since you all don't want to speak I'm assuming you are all ready to bear the punishment. I'll ensure Greta knows to take away your resting periods and increase your workload for the next few weeks." Nora announced as she dragged me behind her and we walked out of the kitchen just as murmurs broke out among the omegas.
