Chapter 13
Scarlett's pov
I remained silent as Nora led me to her room and nudged me to sit on her bed. She went into her bathroom and returned with a first aid kit and placed it beside me before she headed towards her mini fridge and brought out an ice pack.
"Here, place this on your cheek." She said as she handed the ice pack to me and I silently took it, unwilling to do or say anything that would make her wrath turn to me.
She took some cotton and disinfectant and began cleaning a little wound just at the corner of my lip. Even though the wound stung, I remained silent and didn't flinch until she was done.
"Why did you let them harm you? You would have fought back," Nora finally broke the stifling silence between us.
"It's easier to let them think they are in control, if I fought back and they saw me as a threat they would have done much worse," I explained to her and I could see understanding in her eyes but also defiance.
"It doesn't matter, they will be punished for what they did." She retorted and I offered her a small smile as I placed the ice pack on my lap.
"You don't have to do that for me, Nora, that will just make them hate me even more." I pleaded with her.
"But you haven't done anything to make them hate you in the first place," she pointed out and I couldn't help but smile at her ignorance.
"The mere fact that I'm a rogue who has more privileges than they ever did in their pack is enough reason for them to hate me," I explained.
"It's nice to have you defend me but I just don't want any trouble with anyone." I continued and I meant every word that I said. I was still marvelled at how angry Nora had seemed when she sighted me in the kitchen. I had never seen her with so much fire in her eyes and it was baffling to realize it had been there for me... a rogue.
"And I will continue to defend you till they know their place," Nora announced and I knew nothing I would say would change her mind.
"What were you doing there anyway?" She inquired after a moment and heat flooded my cheeks.
"I-i- felt bad about how I left the dining room this morning and I wanted to make you a snack to make it up to you," I revealed as I stared at anything but her face in embarrassment.
"That was so thoughtful of you Scarlett. I wasn't really mad at you, I imagine this can't be any easier for you." She confessed.
"Come on, how about we have dinner together in the dining room just to make it up to me?" Nora suggested and my heart immediately spiked at the thought of seeing Silas again.
"I don't think that would be a very good idea," I muttered.
"Alpha Silas has made it clear that he wants nothing to do with me and I would rather stay out of his way," I explained to her but she seemed unperturbed.
"Silas is visiting a neighbouring pack tonight, that's what he and Asher were talking about all morning. So it would just be you, me, and Asher, of course." Nora revealed and I bit my bottom lip but immediately released it when my wound stung.
"Alright fine," I acquiesced when I couldn't find any other valid reason not to attend.
"Great because I already instructed the cook on what to do." Nora beamed and I found it hard to connect this cheerful woman in front of me to the angry one of just mere minutes ago.
"Let's freshen up before dinner," she suggested and I winced as I rose and although I tried to cover it up, Nora noticed and her eyes darkened but thankfully she didn't say anything as I made my way to my room.

"Well aren't you ladies a sight for sore eyes," Asher teased as soon as Nora and I walked into the dining room.
"Flattery will get you everywhere Asher," Nora giggled as we approached him and I bowed in respect.
"I already told you Scarlett, none of those formalities are necessary." He waved me off and I gave him a gentle smile as I took my seat.
Dinner was served and we ate in comfortable silence and it almost felt like the old times when I was Elara except now I wasn't.
"Nora told me what happened," Asher began and I momentarily paused before I continued eating.
"I'm sure it wasn't as bad as she made it out to be," I said tersely as the last thing I wanted was to talk about it.
"No matter, I'm sure Nora has already informed you they would be punished accordingly?" He asked and I nodded silently as my whole attention was trained on my food.
The door creaked open and all heads turned to stare at the intruder. My eyes bulged as I stared into hard brown ones and I felt as though air had left my body.
"What is she doing here?" Silas gritted out as I rose from my chair and bowed to him in respect.
"Silas, I thought you were staying at Nox's pack." Nora rose from her chair as well.
"Was that why you invited a rogue to dine with you?" He asked as he stared at me with an emotion akin to disgust.
"Silas don't be rude," Nora frowned at him while I shuffled awkwardly on my feet.
"Dinner was lovely, I think I'll retire to my room now," I announced without waiting for Nora to convince me otherwise I made my way out of the room, ensuring to give as much distance as I could from where Silas stood.
