Chapter 14
Silas' pov
"Are we going to talk about it or are we simply going to pretend she doesn't exist?" Asher called out to me just as I delivered a punch to his side and he winced and stepped back.
"You talk too much," I muttered as I delivered blow after blow which Asher skillfully dodged with an excited smile on his face.
"It's a strategy you can't possibly understand." He retorted as he delivered a kick to my side before turning the tables with him now on the offensive and me defending.
"Come on Silas, let's talk about the rogue." He pushed unrelentingly and I knew he was trying to rile me up and I was more annoyed with myself because it was working.
"Can we just spar?" I gritted out and I noticed the twitch of his lips, letting me know he was finding this all very amusing, and before he could retort, I channeled all of my annoyance into my blows and made them even more precise and swift.
We kept on at it for what felt like hours and I enjoyed the familiar ache in my bones as I kept on pushing myself.
"Her name's Scarlett," Asher announced out of the blue and I paused for a second but that was just the opportunity he was looking for as he wasted no time punching me square in the face and I tumbled back as I clutched my nose.
"Asher what the hell," I muttered as I felt a hot liquid slide out of my nose and the iron smell of blood filled my nose.
"You should never get distracted, no matter what," Asher repeated the words I often told him while we trained as he headed towards the fridge at the side of the gym and removed a pack of ice, and made his way back to me.
"Are we done for the day?" He asked cheekily as he handed the ice pack to me and I placed it on my throbbing nose. I could already tell that was going to leave a bruise.
"Now can we speak about the rogue?" He probbed and I let out a sigh of defeat as I knew Asher wouldn't let this go.
"What is there to say about her?" I questioned as I walked to the bench at the side of the room.
"First off, I want to know how Nora managed to convince you to let a rogue stay in the pack house?" He inquired as his eyes sparkled with curiosity.
"The girl was hurt and was brought in half dead," I answered but Asher stared at me as though he didn't believe me which was absurd.
"That isn't enough reason to let her stay in the pack house Silas," he muttered and I hated the way his eyes were trained on me as though he was trying to figure me out.
"She's Nora's newest project alright? You know Nora, once she has set her heart out on something no one can convince her otherwise, and when she told me about the rogue she had that look in her eyes and I knew there was nothing I was going to say or do to keep her away from the rogue." I explained and Asher slowly nodded.
"So she's a part of the pack now?" Asher inquired and I growled at the thought.
"A rogue cannot and will never be a part of our pack. She is merely staying until she figures out what to do with her life next, Nora should have told you that." I answered with a quirk of my brow."
"And if she decides she wants to be a part of this pack?" Asher continued.
"That can't happen," I barked out and he remained silent for a moment but I knew he was far from being done.
"Just spit it out already," I gritted out as I felt his stare on me
"If you dislike her so much why not just tell her to leave the pack? Why are you enduring her presence?" Asher asked and my brows furrowed as I thought about his question.
Why hadn't I thrown the rogue out of my pack already?
"Because Nora would raise hell if I did, she says she sees something different about this rogue," I explained.
"Scarlett," Asher muttered.
"What?" I stared at him in confusion.
"Her name is Scarlett, you don't have to refer to her as a rogue." He clarified and I stared at him for a moment, wondering whether I was the only one who actually remembered what rogues had done to our pack in the past.
"I'll refer to her any damn way I please," I growled and Asher sighed.
"I agree with Nora though," he said after a moment.
"There's something different about her, she isn't simply a rogue. There are layers to her Silas and honestly, I'm surprised you can't see it." He continued when I remained silent.
"Special or not it doesn't matter, she isn't going to be a part of this pack, I've made that very clear to Nora and I'm making it clear to you, so don't encourage her," I warned him and he held his hands up in surrender.
Asher remained silent as we packed up our belongings from the gym and different thoughts swirled through my mind as I wondered what it was about this rogue that made Nora and Asher think she was an exception. It bothered me that I couldn't seem to figure her out as I stared at her and I was even more unsettled that her presence rattled my wolf and me.
Rogues would always be rogues and even if everyone else in my pack was blind to it, I wasn't going to let her fool me and harm my pack.
