Chapter 15 Scarlett's pov I bolted from the bed as the howls became louder my heart beat loudly in my chest and I slowly rose from the bed and made my way towards the window. Longing enveloped me as I watched the wolves of the Nightshade pack running around with abandon at Silas's lead. Instinctively, I searched deep within me trying to see if my wolf was still there...if I could feel her, no matter how faint, I couldn't feel anything but a hollow in my chest. What had become of my wolf? Scarlett's wolf? Was I going to remain wolfless for the rest of my life? The thought sent a pang through me and I focused my attention back on the wolves below. My traitorous eyes landed on Silas' magnificent brown wolf and I watched his skilled movements as he led his wolves. He stopped abruptly and let out a deep howl into the night and his wolves followed his lead and did the same and I couldn't help but wish I was by his side, as Luna howling alongside our pack. I shook my head at my wistful thinking, Silas had made his decision when he chose to believe I could harm our pack without sufficient evidence and I wasn't going to be a fool and live in the past. Just as I was about to head back to bed I chanced another glance down and my eyes met shining brown ones and my heart stopped. Why was Silas looking up at my window? Could he see me? The sensible part of me nudged me to move away from the window but I remained firmly rooted to my spot. I didn't dare breathe as I awaited what would happen next. Asher's black wolf nudged Silas playfully, diverting his attention and I couldn't help the sense of loss that enveloped me as I watched them tumble together. What was wrong with me? Anger at myself rose within me and I moved away from the window as I stared at my bed contemplatively. I already knew I wasn't going to get any sleep and so I changed course and headed out of my room. I made my way to the kitchen, peeking inside to ensure it was empty before I made my way in. I poured myself a glass of milk as I stared at the spot where the omega had harassed me. A small, sad smile graced my lips and I couldn't place what exactly I was feeling. I couldn't say how long I sat there alone in the kitchen, sipping my milk and thinking about what was to come in my life now. I didn't move when I heard the pack door open, signifying the wolves had returned from their run. I waited until the hallways were quiet before I ventured out of the kitchen and made my way back to my room. As I walked along the hallways, I stared at the portraits of the past alphas that lined the walls and my eyes settled on Silas' father, Alpha Darkwood. The resemblance between Silas and his father was striking and I could still remember how Alpha Darkwood's eyes softened when Silas introduced me to him. I couldn't help but wonder what he would say to me now if he saw everything that was happening. "What are you doing here?" Silas growled behind me and I gasped in shock as I turned to face him. "I-i just," I stuttered as I tried to come up with a plausible excuse. Even in a situation like this my eyes still betrayed me as they raked down Silas' bare chest. Heat spread through my cheeks as I looked away in embarrassment. "I asked you a question," Silas repeated, bringing me out of whatever haze I was in. "I heard howls and I was unable to sleep," I muttered. "And you decided to roam the halls instead?" He quirked a brow. "I came down for a glass of milk," I explained and he remained silent but I could feel his burning stare on me. "What are you looking for?" He asked and my eyes shot up to meet him. "What?" I asked in confusion. "I'm not Nora, neither am I Asher whom you can easily charm with false meekness." He began and I took a hesitant step back from the venom that was laced in his words and the flashing of his eyes, alerting me that his wolf was just beneath the surface. "What were you looking for?" He asked again. "Nothing, I just told you I couldn't sleep," I whispered as I swallowed. "Why were you staring at that portrait?" He probed. "I was merely curious," I replied but he didn't look convinced and he took a step towards me. Alarm bells went off in my head and everything within me urged me to run in the opposite direction but my feet remained rooted to their spot. Silas took another step towards me until he was merely a hairsbreadth away and I dared not move. "Whatever you are plotting, you might as well just give it up now." He whispered to me. "Because I'm watching you, one wrong move and I won't hesitate to slit your throat with my bare claws." He continued, his eyes shone with promise and I stumbled away from him. "I'm giving you the option to leave the pack while Nora still has a good image of you in her head. If you do anything to hurt her or my pack, you'll regret it." His voice echoed in my head as I rushed towards my room and closed the door behind me. I leaned against the door as my hands clutched my chest and I tried to calm my racing heart. "What the hell just happened?" I whispered into my room.
