Chapter 16
Scarlett's pov
"Asher said he would give me a tour," I reminded Nora as we walked out of the room.
"Well Asher is busy right now and I think you should familiarize yourself with your surroundings as soon as possible." Nora retorted without turning to me and I fell in step beside her.
"That is unless you prefer his company over mine?" She stopped walking and turned to me.
"Of course not," I replied quickly and Nora chuckled as she waved me off.
"I was just joking," she informed me as she resumed walking.
"Now I have no idea where to start from," she muttered more to herself than to me and I cleared my throat.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Nora? After all, it's not like I'm staying in your pack for a long time so I don't think it's necessary." I explained and Nora turned back to me.
Her face was scrunched in confusion for a second before realization clouded her features.
"Did Sillas tell you anything?" She asked, and my thoughts went back to last night, as heat clawed at my cheeks, and I looked away from her.
"No, Alpha Silas has been very kind even to allow me to stay here." I retorted.
"If he said or did anything to make you feel uncomfortable you can tell me Scar and I'll talk to him." She continued as she saw my features unconvinced and I shrugged.
"He hasn't exactly hidden his dislike for me ever since I got here so it's kind of obvious that giving me a tour would aggravate him," I reasoned and Nora nodded. I couldn't place why exactly I was reluctant to tell her about last night with Silas but I just was and I preferred to keep it to myself.
"You are probably right but I never listen to Silas so we are still going on that tour." She told me, her voice laced with determination and I sighed in defeat as I knew nothing would change her mind.
All I could do now was hope we didn't bump into Silas.
We passed by the kitchen to grab a basket Nora had asked the cook to prepare for us beforehand and just as we were about to leave I felt a stare burning the side of my face and I turned. My eyes met Eva's and her lips twitched in amusement just before Nora dragged me out of the kitchen.
I couldn't help the eerie chill her smile gave me but I shrugged it off as Nora began our tour and although I knew every nook and cranny of the pack house I tried to view everything through Scarlett's eyes and not Elara's and I was amazed by just how beautiful everywhere was.
"This is the library which no one ever visits anymore," Nora announced as we passed by what was my favourite room while I was still Luna.
This library had been a random gift Silas had given me because he knew how much I loved to read. It had shelves full of all my favourite authors, a couch and a blanket placed just in front of a fireplace, and the perfect lighting.
"Why doesn't anyone visit it anymore?" I inquired and Nora cleared her throat, looking around awkwardly and I instantly knew it was somehow tied to my death.
"You don't have to say if you don't want to, let's move on." I encouraged as I began moving away from the library and Nora followed my lead after a hesitant second.
"This leads to Silas' quarters so do well to stay clear." She informed me as we passed by a set of stairs leading to the west wing and as though the mention of his name had summoned him, Silas descended, unhurriedly, from the stairs.
Our eyes met and for the first time since I arrived at the pack, the first emotion that surged through me was anger. Deep-rooted anger at him for taking away my life.
"Nora, what is it that you are up to now?" He asked, exasperated and I stared at him silently, not offering my usual meek bow.
"I was just giving Scar a tour of the pack house so she doesn't get lost," Nora explained as though it was just another day and Silas's eyes moved to me.
"Did she request the tour?" He asked, eyes still on me and I knew exactly where his thoughts were headed.
"She didn't need to, I took the initiative," Nora explained and Silas turned to her.
"How thoughtful of you," his voice dropped with sarcasm but Nora ignored him.
"We've been over this Nora but I don't know why you choose to be stubborn." Silas gritted out.
"This rogue is only here for a limited time, the less she knows about the pack the better. No need to give her ammunition by showing her around the pack," He continued and Nora's nostrils flared.
"Well, what's going on here?" Asher approached us and I let out a sigh of relief as I knew if anyone could diffuse the tension between these two, it was him.
"Nothing, Scarlett and I were just leaving," Nora muttered even as she made no attempt to turn away and instead focused her glare on her brother.
"Wait a minute are you having that tour without me?" Asher asked with a pout and Silas turned his glare to him.
"You were a part of this?" He growled at Asher who looked at a loss for what to say.
"Unbelievable," Silas muttered as he pinched the bridge of his nose with his fingers.
"Why don't you both hand over all our pack secrets and any other useful information she could use against us while you are at it?" He asked them and Asher's lips twitched as we watched Silas walk away.
"He'll come around Scar, trust me, he will," Asher assured me as he gave me a pat on the shoulder before he followed after Silas.
