Chapter 17
Scarlett's pov
"What's going on?" I asked Nora as I noticed her setting up Alpha Silas' private sitting room. I was baffled she had let me come in with her as I knew Silas never let just anyone in this particular sitting room except those he trusted.
He would no doubt be furious when he learned that I was here and as I stared around the room, just like everywhere else in the pack, it hadn't changed at all. Everything was still in place just as I remembered it and my eyes rested on a couch which was placed in the far corner of the room. A couch that Silas and I usually cuddled on when things just seemed a bit too much.
"The seer is coming to see Silas," Nora explained as she took a step back to ensure the room was ready for the seer's visit.
Was Gary coming to see Silas? The seer rarely ventured out of his cottage which was discreetly hidden in the woods because he preferred to be alone. The only time he made his way into the pack house was if he had something important he wanted to tell Silas.
Panic set in through me as I wondered if he had sensed my presence in the pack and come to report it to Silas. If he didn't know I had to stay as far away from him as possible and that wouldn't be so hard considering my room was isolated from the rest of the pack.
"Is something going on?" I asked, trying my best to sound casual.
"What do you mean?" Nora asked as she turned to me.
"It's just that in my former pack the seer only visited if he had some important news to share with the alpha or if the alpha requested him," I explained and Nora nodded slowly.
"He just sent a message that he would be here, he didn't say anything else but it's weird actually. He never comes to the pack house if it isn't extremely important," she commented and that made my heart spike.
"He should be here any minute now," Nora muttered as she glanced around the room for the last time.
"I should get going then..." I began as I turned around but stopped short when my face collided with a hard wall.
I stumbled back as I tried to prevent myself from falling and as I looked up my eyes bulged as I met Alpha Silas' caramel eyes staring coldly at me.
It wasn't lost on me that his hands were still shoved in his pockets and he made no attempt to help me from tumbling.
"What are you doing here?" He growled out lowly as he blocked my path to the door and I stared from him to the door, wondering if I should just make a run for it but I knew he would catch me within a second and that would only heighten the suspicions he already had about me so instead I lowered my head and remained silent.
"I asked you a question." He gritted out, not attempting to hide his irritation.
"She's with me Silas," Nora announced before I could speak and I let out a sigh of relief.
Nora walked up and stood beside me and Silas's angry gaze shifted to his sister and I almost felt bad for all the trouble I was causing her.
"Why would you bring her here?" He growled lowly as his eyes flashed and before Nora could respond a throat cleared behind Silas and my heart dropped.
Silas made way as Gary, the seer, made his way into the room with his crooked walking stick in one hand and his other hand caressing his long white beard.
"Alpha," Gary greeted as he gave Silas a slight bow before he turned to stare straight at me.
Our eyes met and held and instantly I knew he knew.
My heart beat loudly in my chest as I held my breath and waited for his next move. Everything seemed to move in slow motion and irritatingly, Gary's wrinkled lips spread into a wide grin.
"And who might this be?" He asked as he used his stick to point at me.
"She's-" Nora began.
"She's no one." Silas cut her off and the seer turned to him.
"She's not a part of this pack and she'll be gone as soon as possible. She's no one of importance," Silas continued.
"I beg to differ," Gary gave a strangled chuckle as he turned back to me with twinkling eyes and I was reminded just how mischievous this old man was.
I pleaded with Gary with my eyes and he retorted with a quirk of his brow, silently asking me what my plan was.
"She was just about to leave," Silas called out to me, breaking our silent conversation and my eyes shifted to him.
"Right," I muttered as I ducked and made my way towards the door, taking special care not to glance into the seer's mocking eyes as I passed.
"No, she should stay." I heard Gary announce just as I was about to step out of the room and I stopped in my tracks.
"She has no business with pack matters, she's a rogue," Silas explained and I could almost imagine the confusion on his face.
"Yet she's in your pack." Gary retorted as he turned to me.
"Come in girl," he nudged his head in my direction and my heart dropped as Silas turned to me with blazing eyes but made no move to counter the seer as I knew he wouldn't. Gary was old enough to be Silas' grandfather and even though Silas was the alpha, he held him in high regard and respect.
"We don't have all day rogue," Silas called out to me when I remained rooted by the door, and with a shaky breath I made my way back into the room to what might just be my demise.
