Chapter 18 Scarlett's pov "How is the pack faring?" Gary asked unhurriedly as he sipped his tea before placing the cup on the table. "Everything is going smoothly, you would have known if anything was amiss," Silas announced and Gary's eyes darted from Silas to me. "Yet I was unaware you had welcomed a rogue into your pack," Gary commented and I winced as I noticed Silas' nostrils flared in annoyance. "I didn't welcome her-" Silas began. "Some pack members found her by the river barely alive and brought her back for treatment." Nora cut in as she explained to the seer who nodded slowly. "She's a rogue, unless you are planning on making her a part of your pack?" The seer asked with his eyes directly on me and I couldn't help but wonder what he was up to. "We aren't making a rogue a part of our pack," Silas growled. "Time will tell," Gary muttered into his cup as he took another sip of his tea. "What was it you wanted to tell me?" Silas asked the seer. "Always straight down to business Alpha," the seer chuckled as his eyes darted to me and I swallowed nervously. "Whatever brought you here must be of great importance and I'm curious to know," Silas explained and Gary remained contemplatively silent. As the seconds trickled by with Gary's silence, everything within me urged me to get up and run out of there before Gary exposed who I was. I began weighing my options and a part of me knew I could always deny his claims but Silas and Nora would believe him in a heartbeat before they did with me so that was not an option. I could simply stay and reveal who I really was and wait for Silas' reaction... "I merely felt an...odd presence in the pack and I came to find its source." The seer explained, dragging me out of my thoughts. "Have you found it?" Silas quirked a brow at him as his eyes darted to me. "What do you think?" Gary retorted as he glanced at me and I fidgeted in my seat as all eyes turned to me. My eyes met Nora's and she offered me an unsure smile. "Is she harmful to the pack in any way?" Silas questioned as though I wasn't there. "That depends on you," Gary informed him. "What do you mean?" Silas probbed as Nora cleared her throat. "She's right here you know," Nora reminded them. "Right, how could I forget?" Gary's voice was dripping with sarcasm as he rose from his chair. "I should take my leave now," he announced and Silas stared at him in confusion as he rose as well. "But you haven't-" Silas began. "And I want the rogue to see me out," Gary continued as though Silas hadn't even spoken and Silas took the hint and decided to remain silent. Gary and Nora were probably the only ones who could speak to Silas like that and get away with it. Everyone remained silent as Gary made his way out of the room and I followed silently behind him but Silas blocked my path just as I was about to walk past him. "Don't say anything stupid," Silas warned me before he moved out of my path and watched me as I walked away. "How are you finding the pack?" Gary asked when I fell in step with him. "Pleasant," I answered cautiously and Gary abruptly stopped in the middle of the stairs and turned to me. "Will you tell him or should I?" He asked and my heart dropped. "Tell who what?" I feigned ignorance. "You know better than to feign ignorance with me Luna," he replied with a knowing look and I sucked in a deep breath...he really knew it was me. "Someone might hear you," I finally said after a moment and Gary simply turned and continued walking no doubt expecting me to follow him. We walked out of the pack house and made our way towards the pack borders. We were alone and the roads were deserted and I knew that was my cue to explain myself. "How did you know it's me?" I asked, there was no point in denying it. "Your presence, it's the same and I could never mistake it." He explained simply and I silently nodded. "Why didn't you tell Silas?" I asked as I hugged myself and Gary turned to face me. "It wasn't my place," he said and I wished he would say something more, anything to make me know where he stood. "I do have one question though," he muttered as his hand caressed his beard and I nodded once, signalling for him to ask away. "What's your plan?" He inquired and I bit my bottom lip. "I don't know," I murmured and he quirked a brow at me. "I want to find those truly responsible and make them pay for my death," I said when he remained silent. "I want Silas to know he made a mistake when he burned me at that stake and I want that knowledge to torment him for the rest of his life," I commented as I shuffled on my feet, uncomfortable at how Gary stared at me almost as though he was staring into my soul. "You are consumed by your need for revenge," he commented. "Not revenge, justice. I just want to get justice for myself," I corrected him. "If you aren't careful this need, whatever it is, will overpower you and turn you into something very dark," Gary announced as the tips of his lips turned downwards, expressing his displeasure. It was already too late for that, I had already made my way into the nightshade pack and I wasn't going to give up now when I had barely started. "I know your mind is already made up and trying to steer you off this path would be futile so I won't waste my breath." Gary declared as he turned and made his way towards the borders. "You aren't going to ask me how it happened? How did I find myself in this body?" I called out to him and he stopped and turned back to me. "Do you know how it happened?" He asked and I subtly shook my head. "I thought so," he shrugged before he turned back to his course and a feeling of disappointment gnawed at me as I was at least hoping he would shed some light on that.
