Chapter ten Scarlett's pov "Come on let's go," Nora held onto my hand and led me into the pack and the guards shared glances among themselves. "Are you sure we should let this..." One of the guards began but trailed off when Nora cut him a look. "Alpha Silas has approved her entry into this pack, if any of you have anything to say you can take it up with him alright?" She told them cheekily before she dragged me into the pack. We walked silently towards the pack house and with each step I took I was filled with a sickening sense of nostalgia as I had memories some good, others bad, flying around the place. "You don't know me, why are you helping me?" I asked as I stopped in the middle of the road and Nora turned to me. "What's your name?" She asked instead. "Scarlett," I responded after a moment. "Scarlett..." Nora tested the name on her lips with a small smile. "I like it," she announced as though I needed her approval. "Why are you helping me?" I repeated and she sighed. "I don't know, call me stupid but something in my gut trusts you." She shrugged and my eyes searched hers. For a second I almost felt bad, Nora was always so nice and I felt bad using that for my own gain but in this moment it was for the greater good of the pack. "You won't even ask me why I left?" I questioned. "All I need to know is if you are a spy, if you are out to hurt this pack, or if you have any other ulterior motives?" She inquired as her eyes bore through me. "I don't," I whispered as I slowly shook my head. "I just need a place to be safe," I continued and we remained silent for a while, merely staring at each other before she gave me a small smile as though she found what she was looking for. "You'll be safe here...from whatever it is you are running from." She assured me and I returned her smile. We continued on our way to the pack house and my heart dropped when I saw Silas standing right in front of the door with a scowl planted on his face. "Don't take anything he says to heart, he isn't as hard as he portrays himself to be and he's kind of going through a lot right now," Nora whispered to me as we approached him and I gulped. "Silas," Nora smiled at him. "Alpha," I gave an exaggerated bow. "Rise," his gruff voice called out to me and I did as he said but I made sure to keep my gaze fixed on the ground. "This is Scarlett," Nora introduced as though Silas cared. "I allowed you to bring her in but that doesn't mean she is a part of this pack. She's a rogue and I'll have my men watching her at every second. One wrong move and she's out of this pack and you will be punished for bringing her into this pack." Silas announced and I knew he was against admitting me into his borders and I couldn't help but wonder how Nora was able to convince him to let me stay. "Way to make our guest feel welcome Silas," Nora deadpanned. "She isn't a guest. She's a rogue who is hurt and is seeking refuge in my pack. The sooner she heals and figures out where to go, the better for her." Silas countered, his cold stare directly trained on me. "I think we get your point," Nora muttered as she made her way up the three steps to the door and I meekly followed behind her. As I passed by Silas, I was hit by his familiar, earthy cedar wood scent and I almost lost my footing. There was once a time I used to roll in that glorious scent and enjoyed how it clung to me like a second skin. "Scar?" Nora called out to me and only then did I notice I had stopped walking and she and Silas were staring at me in confusion. My cheeks heated as I hurriedly made my way into the pack house but I could still feel Silas'gaze burning the back of my head. "As I said before don't take Silas' words to heart but it would be better if you tried to stay out of his line of sight," Nora suggested and I merely nodded. "Alright come on, I want to show you to your room." Nora dragged me along and I tried my best to keep a blank expression as I looked around the magnificent building I had lived in for five years, ever since I was mated to Silas. Everything looked the same yet so much had changed, I could feel the stares of pack members on me as we passed but I paid them no mind and ensured to keep my head firmly rooted downwards. "It's nothing grand but at least you should feel comfortable," Nora announced as we walked into the room and I stared at the plain cream room which I or rather Elara, had arranged and it wasn't lost on me that Nora had strategically placed me in a room far away from Silas' and the rest of the pack but I didn't mind. If I were being honest I needed the time alone to think and figure out what I was really doing. "Thank you, it's perfect," I told her with a small smile as I walked into the room and sat at the edge of the bed. "Why don't you settle in and I'll have your dinner brought over in about an hour with a fresh change of clothes?" She suggested and I nodded. "That would be nice, thank you," I replied and she smiled before she walked away, closing the door behind her and leaving me to my thoughts.
