Chapter 3: The Secret Behind Adrian Vale

976 Words
Isabella Hart had built her entire life on one rule. Never trust what you cannot prove. In her world, emotions could make people weak, and trust could become a weapon in the wrong hands. That was why she became successful. That was why Hart International stood among the biggest companies in Valora. But now, one mysterious man had entered her life and challenged everything she believed. Adrian Vale. A man who claimed to know her future. A man whose name appeared in her family's forgotten records. A man who looked at her like he was carrying a secret too heavy to share. Isabella sat alone in her office, staring at the file in front of her. The information was incomplete. Almost everything about Adrian's past was missing. No clear family history. No proper employment records. No explanation of why his name was connected to Hart International five years ago. It was as if someone had erased him from existence. "Who are you, Adrian Vale?" she whispered. For the first time in years, curiosity was stronger than caution. --- Later that evening, Isabella visited the old Hart family mansion. The place had belonged to her father before his death. She rarely came there. Too many memories lived inside those walls. The mansion was beautiful, but it always felt lonely. As she walked through the hallway, she noticed an old painting hanging on the wall. It was a family portrait. Her father. Her mother. And several people she barely remembered. Isabella moved closer. Then she froze. Standing in the corner of the painting was a young boy. A familiar face. Adrian. Her eyes widened. "No..." She quickly searched through the old drawers beneath the painting. After several minutes, she found an old box covered in dust. Inside were letters, photographs, and documents. Her heart began beating faster. Why was Adrian in her family's history? Why had nobody told her? She opened the first letter. The handwriting belonged to her father. "Some secrets are dangerous when revealed too early. If anything happens to me, protect Isabella from the truth until she is ready." Isabella's hands trembled. The next page contained only one sentence. "Adrian Vale is the key." --- The following day, Isabella found Adrian exactly where she expected. A small café away from the busy part of the city. He sat alone, drinking coffee while looking outside the window. When he saw her, he wasn't surprised. "You found out." Isabella sat across from him. "You knew I would come." Adrian remained silent. "Who are you?" A painful expression crossed his face. "I already told you." "No," Isabella replied firmly. "You told me your name. I want the truth." The silence between them grew. Finally, Adrian sighed. "My family worked with yours many years ago." "Worked with?" "Your father trusted my family." "Then why was your name hidden?" Adrian looked down. "Because after your father's death, people wanted the past forgotten." Isabella leaned forward. "What past?" Adrian looked into her eyes. "The past involving your family's greatest mistake." The words shocked her. "My father was not perfect," she said quietly. "But he wasn't a bad person." "I never said he was." "Then explain." Adrian hesitated. He wanted to tell her everything. He wanted to explain why he had spent years searching for answers. But every time he tried to reveal the truth, he remembered the vision. The fire. The destruction. Isabella crying. And him failing to save her. "Some truths destroy people," he said. Isabella's expression hardened. "I am not someone you need to protect." "I know." "Then stop acting like you are." Adrian looked at her. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Then he said something she didn't expect. "The first time I saw you wasn't yesterday." Isabella frowned. "What?" "I saw you years ago." Her heart skipped. "When?" "Before you became the woman everyone knows today." Adrian looked at the rain falling outside. "You were younger. You were standing outside this same café, crying because you had lost someone important." Isabella stared at him. Nobody knew about that day. Nobody. "How could you know that?" "Because I was there." The world seemed to go quiet. "Why don't I remember you?" "Because you weren't supposed to." Those words frightened her more than anything else. --- That night, Isabella couldn't sleep. Too many questions filled her mind. Adrian wasn't just a stranger. He was a missing piece of her past. But the biggest question remained: Why was he trying so hard to save her? The next morning, she received an unexpected visitor. A man in a dark suit entered her office. "Miss Hart." "Who are you?" "My name doesn't matter." "Then why are you here?" The man placed a file on her desk. "To warn you." Isabella opened it. Inside were pictures of Adrian. Her eyes narrowed. "Where did you get this?" The man ignored her question. "Stay away from Adrian Vale." "Why?" "Because he is not the person you think he is." Isabella looked at the photos again. "And who is he?" The man smiled slightly. "The man who knows your future." A cold feeling moved through her. Before she could ask more questions, the man left. Isabella stood alone. Everyone was telling her to stay away from Adrian. But nobody was telling her why. And somehow... That made her trust him even more. --- Meanwhile, Adrian stood on a rooftop overlooking the city. He knew Isabella had started searching for answers. He knew the danger was getting closer. A vision suddenly struck him. Isabella. Standing in front of him. Tears in her eyes. And his own voice saying: "I should have stayed away from you." Adrian opened his eyes. The vision disappeared. But one thing remained clear. Fate was changing. And for the first time... He wasn't sure if that was a blessing or a curse.
