Adventure begins
Shael a young elvish woman, with long brunette hair that fluttered in the soft spring breeze and big deep blue eyes resembling the lake near the center of Asisari, walked along the blue stone road. Her two friends, the elvish sisters Arcaena and Celaena, both blonde girls around Shael's age joined her. The girls were conversing and laughing among themselves heading to the spring festival held in the center of town every year. A beautiful event, the whole town is decorated in flowers of various shades of pink, red, purple, and blue. Young elvish women would dance, while the young men would play music in a magical ceremony to their ancestors.
The three girls were dressed in the town's best dresses for the nights events, Shael wore a blue dress that sparkled in the light with matching flowers in her hair, Celaena minutes younger than her twin, wore a light pink dress with red flowers to match her eyes. While the lovely Arcaena wore a purple dress with vines of ivy through her long, thick curly blonde hair. Together the girls were the most beautiful in the town, prepared to awaken the ancestral magic for another year, the girls arrived at the town square.
Wyn and Theoden arrived at the festival early to see the decorations and activities, the brothers were taller than your average elf. Wyn with hair as black as night, like their mothers, and Theoden with sandy blond like their fathers, the pair were a force to be reckoned with. Wyn's green eyes glowed in the light as he laughed with his brother as he set up his fiddle. Theoden showed less joy as he toyed with his flute, a shade darker than his brothers, Theoden's eyes resembled the moss on the forest trees. Soon the dark cloud over Theoden would lift in the most unexpected way.
As the girls arrived they couldn't help but marvel at the beauty of it all, there were blue flowers a shade darker than the blue stone path they lined, pink and red were strung above, with purple to accent everything. Fairy lights and paper lanterns were set up to light everything as the sun set, the normal little shop stalls were covered in red and purple paper, some were selling flowers and sweets, while others offered face painting to the younglings. Music played as a soft breeze blew, the girls inhaled the sweet spring air and giggled to themselves.
Theoden couldn't help but notice the entrance of the three beautiful elvish girls, but one in particular caught his eye, a girl in a pink dress with red flowers in her hair. Everything in him wished to go speak to her, the way she giggled with her friends was intoxicating, but something held him back. A tight feeling in his chest he had never experienced before, Theoden was confused as Wyn beckoned him, the sun was setting and the ceremony would soon start. Wyn was giddy as he and his elder brother took their places among the towns other young men. It was Wyn's first time playing in the ceremony and his excitement could not be helped, nor hindered by his brothers melancholy, though he had noticed a sudden shift in Theoden's mood just as the sun was beginning to set. Alas Wyn did not have time to ponder such things, the last rays of the sun would soon fade, the music would rise, and the girls would dance. Magic for the elves would renew once more, Wyn tuned his fiddle in preparation, excitement ever growing in the air.
As the last rays of light disappear the fairy lights and paper lanterns replaced the sun, Shael, Celaena, and Arcaena took their places among the towns other young women. With only a moment before the music would begin the girls joined hands and smiled at each other, as they did two large shapes appeared in the sky, "That must be Dryke and his mate Dreamfyre, the king and queen of dragons!" whispered Shael to her friends. Dryke was twice the size of his mate, with scales as black as the void, and fires that burned just as dark with hints of gold. While Dreamfyre was a slender sapphire blue she-dragon whose fires burned blue with hints of soft lavender. Majestic creatures that ruled over Mount Oseran, the two species had worked quite hard to bring a tentative peace to their peoples. The dragons had flown hundreds of miles to be in Asisari on this special night. If only they had known what was to come.
As the dragons landed the boys began their mystical tune, Wyn and Theoden made eye contact as they began to play, nodding to each other before turning to the crowd. Theoden's moss green eyes caught the beautiful blonde haired woman from before, his heart swelled in a way it never had before, in that moment Theoden swore he would play hard than ever before for her. He put his flute to his lips and began to play his heart out. Wyn couldn't help but see the change in his brother and where his eye had landed. Soon though, his mind was too flooded to focus as the music swirled around him, his soft green eyes began to glow as magic filled the air.
Together the girls began to move with the flow of music, Celaena's red eyes were the first to begin glowing, highlighting the red flowers in her soft blonde hair. Shael was soon to follow, her deep blue eyes glowing as bright as a midsummer sky on the brightest afternoon. The ever beautiful Arcaena was the last to feel the ancestral magic, but when she did power flowed like it never had before. Her big amethyst purple eyes glowed brighter than every other elf there, a strong warm breeze blew her thick curly blonde hair back, her long purple dress flowing gently around her. Arcaena hadn't noticed everyone was now staring at her.
As all attention fell on Arcaena and her friends something exploded, panic quickly set in as fires of black, gold, blue, and purple burned, people were running and screaming everywhere. Shael grabbed the hands of Celaena and Arcaena insuring they would not be separated from her in the chaos. A large young elf with sandy blond hair and moss green eyes came running up to the girls with an equally large elf with black hair and soft green eyes bonding behind him, "This way!" the first elf yelled encompassing the girls and gently pushing them towards the wall around the town. Arcaena took a moment to look over the tall elf's arm and saw a human man setting off barrels of fire that burned the same colors as the fires that were now consuming her home.
Theoden didn't know what had come over him, he just knew that when the chaos started his first instinct was to protect a woman whose name he didn't even know. Now he knew he needed to get everyone to safety, he knew of a hole in the walls of Asisari, he was praying to every God it was still open. To their luck it was, Theoden sent the girls through first, then his younger brother, taking one last look at his home before ducking through himself. Theoden began leading the group towards Lily Grove, known for its fairy inhabitants, it was the safest place nearby.
As the five young elves settled around a campfire in Lily Grove Celaena decided to be the first to introduce herself, "Well I'm Celaena, that's my sister Arcaena, and this is our best friend Shael," she took a breath "thank you for saving us." she finished and looked at the boys expectantly. Theoden shifted a bit in his seat, so Wyn spoke up "I'm Wyn, that's my older brother Theoden. He should be the one welcomin' ya!" Wyn shot his brother a cheeky look, "He did all the savin', I just followed!" Wyn chuckled. The girls giggled and Shael said "Well thank you all the same." Celaena was suddenly distracted by the black, gold, blue, purple, and now gray glow in the sky, sadness washing over her face.
Anger washed over Theoden seeing the sadness in Celaena's eyes, he spoke for the first time "It was those damned dragons! The queen never should have made that pact!" his voice growing lower with rage. His moss green eyes beginning to glow, Wyn grabbed his arm, "No it wasn't." Arcaena said matter of factly. All attention snapping to her, "Arcaena!" Celaena exclaimed, "But the fires, the colors?!" Shael asked shocked, Theoden just looked at her angrily. Arcaena just postured up and said "I saw a human man setting off fires as we were running." Theoden raised an eyebrow "If this is true, we need to tell the queen." he said turning to his brother, "Immediately. This is bad." he finished.
Wyn looked confused "But... Why? It was just a human?" he asked. Theoden grabbed his brothers shoulders "Because, don't you see that human was trying to interrupt the ceremony, and destroy the pact. If not for that girl's power," he motioned to Arcaena, "he would have succeeded." Wyn's confusion faded into concern as reality hit him. Turning to Arcaena "Speaking of which," Theoden said "the elders wished to speak to you, but that will have to wait until we reach Naellin." The girls looked excitedly at each other, having never been further than Lily Grove before, ever practical Shael pointed out the issue of the girls dresses.
A small voice squeaked "I can help with that!" excitement ringing in her tone, from behind a flower a fairy revealed herself, "I'm Venus Starbeam, I love helping elf folk!" landing in full view, her wings were firey gold with highlights of black and orange, wearing a red dress to match and a wand that seemed to carry hellfire itself, her yellow hair flowing to her shoulders. "How?" Celaena always bold was the first to speak, getting a look from her twin. The fire fairy giggled "With magic of course! Silly elves!" with that she gave a wave of her wand, light slowly grew going over each girl one by one. Each dress transformed into traveling gear the same color as the dresses, the flowers in their hair turning to daggers, except Arcaena's ivy vines, they transformed into a beautiful elvish short sword with a green hilt and golden blade.
With a wink at Arcaena, Venus turned to the brothers "I'm sure you'll need better clothes and weapons too!" Theoden raised an eyebrow before being enveloped in the same light as the girls. Once gone Theoden looked over at a giggling Wyn, who was now wearing black and brown traveling gear and an elvish long bow. Theoden himself was now wearing all black traveling gear, with an elvish black long sword on his hip "We can't pay you for this, at least not right now." Theoden said, this sent the little fairy into a fit of laughter, the girls giggled and Celaena asked "Haven't you ever met a fairy before?" she pulled some small seeds from her bag, before planting a handful of them in the ground, "The fay don't take money, especially for favors, all they ask is that you care for their forest home." she finished with another giggle and a nod to Venus.
