I hadn’t slept. Not even blinked too long. My eyes were burning from holding in tears I didn’t even know were still leaking out my skull. My bones were cold, my spine kept locking up like my body was trying to warn me I was walking into some kind of trap, but I kept going. Passport, bag, the outfit I wore to bed the night before because I didn’t think I’d be getting on an international flight at 2am based on a voicemail that said “She needs you.” No name, no warning, just static and my name and that sentence.
