It was another half an hour before Yukino’s parents entered the small dining room. They were quietly talking with each other until they saw Yukino sitting in the armchair looking at them, a question clearly in her eyes.
“You must’ve heard about the boy who managed to get here.”
“I have, father.”
“You’ll meet him tomorrow, he is currently resting.” Yukino smiled thinly at those words. “The boy is an early awakener.” Yukino was shocked.
Early awakeners were people who managed to awaken their magic without the help of the magic circles that were at the awakening ceremony. Basically they were people who had so much magic that it automatically unlocks by itself unlike the others who need the magic circle to draw out the magic. Early awakeners all became outstanding and powerful figures in the world, the heroine was one and the only one mentioned in the game. So who is this boy?
Yukino didn’t push it as the servants walked in with the plates of food. The dinner was silent, as different thoughts run through the three royals’ head. After Yukino finished her plate, she excused herself saying that she was tired, which was not a lie as she was out all day.
Yukino flopped onto her bed and let out a sigh, in five hours she was still awake, unable to sleep no matter how hard she tried. At long last, the girl sat up and walked out to the gardens. She didn’t bring Kami along, alone she walked down the halls of the palace and into the garden. There weren’t any guards since the palace had protective magic over it and would alert everyone if something came close.
When Yukino made the turn towards the garden she saw a lone figure of a boy, standing under a red willow tree. The boy turned around and Yukino eyes widened, something tightened in her chest as she looked at the boy. Silver hair, not quite like Yukino’s adorned his head, but what really surprised Yukino was the eyes. One was gold while the other silver. It seemed familiar, but at the same time she knew she had never met the boy before, but why did it feel hard to breathe?
She opened her mouth but nothing came out. The boy looked at her, and in the depths of his eyes, thousands of emotions flickered through. It was completely silent until Yukino managed to force some words out.
“You must be the early awakener.” Although Yukino said that her real thoughts were, Who are you?
“Yes, that would be me. I suppose you are her highness, Princess Yukino?” The boy smiled and bowed.
“I am. It’s a pleasure to meet you.” Yukino forced a polite smile onto her face.
“I will serve you well in the future.”
“Serve?”
“I am becoming her highness’s knight.”
“Ah.” They fell into silence once again, “Well then, please excuse me. I will see you tomorrow.” Yukino curtsied and turned around to leave. The boy looked at the retreating back as his hands clenched by his side. Looking down, away from the figure he turned back to the willow tree. As it’s red leaves cascaded down, the wind picked up and brought the boy’s eyes up onto the sky.
“...I hope..” he trailed off, restarting his sentence he whispered to himself, “I wonder if your heart...” the last part of the sentence was ripped away by the wind. His face had a sad smile as he looked back to where the figure of the girl stood.
