After 24 human hours, Cofer had not awakened. Daghaud was trying to determine when would be a safe time to wake the vampire king. He would wait 24 more hours then make the call. After time had passed, he entered Cofer’s hut and attempted to wake him. He was sure Cofer wanted to get back home to his wife. When he shook his body, it was limp. The veins near his eyes were pulsating and were bright red. [The Demon King?] Daghaud stood and flew to find Koolas.
“He’s what?” Koolas heard him but couldn’t believe it.
“The Demon King has cast the punishment spell that's the only logical reason for the scorched veins. He did that to Seferas when he fell to formally acknowledge him. And if you remember he did not live long afterwards.”
“Let me take a look at him.” Koolas and Daghaud quickly went back to Cofer’s side. The redness had progressed across his face and to his ear.
“Unlike Seferas, we can try to help. Let’s try Sniper’s Lily, it's like that stuff humans use to wake up other unconscious humans. It should be 300 times stronger. It also has a powerful healing agent.”
After Koolas finished speaking Daghaud rushed to locate the plant. Three hours later he came back with the plant in hand along with some tools for creating the serum. The redness had spread all over Cofer’s face down to his chest. Koolas put the plant in a pot and steamed it. Before long, he had completed the preparation of the medicine. He then pressed the slime onto Cofers face and chest and the resulting liquid was poured down Cofer’s throat. The veins started to rescind within a few hours but Cofer did not wake up. A tear rolled down Cofer’s face, Daghuad wiped it away with his finger.
“He must have really pissed off the Demon King.” Daghaud whispered.

After the reel played for what felt like a million times, Cofer could only cry. The part that really hurt him deep was the shapeshifter who pretended to be him. Josey wanted so badly for him to be with her that she didn’t recognize her own husband until the last minute. She had passionately kissed him. [She showed him how much she loved me] Cofer felt worthless. [Should I even go back to her?]
When that thought crossed his mind, the images stopped. He was only left with a dark abyss and his unyielding depression. As someone who never felt love or despair only bloodlust and rage, these feelings made him feel weak. Like he wasn’t worth being called the Vampire King.
“Cofer…” Her voice sang to him.
“Why the f**k am I falling a part for you? Is this what it means to truly love someone?” Cofer maniacally yelled into the darkness. He could hear his heart pounding, resonating within the infinite nothingness.
“Cofer!” A deeper, more rugged voice called out to him this time.
“Come towards my voice. You have to wake up. Your family needs you!” The voice continued to yell.
“Wake up?” Cofer sighed. He wanted to believe she needed him but he would never know if he never saw her again. He tried to reach for the voice as it repeatedly called out his name. The closer he got to the voice, he could see a tunnel of light.
The moment his finger felt the warmth of the light, he started to wake up. Daghaud, Koolas, and Mataug were towering over him. Their faces were full of worry.
“He’s woke!” Mataug yelled. They sighed with relief. They knew if Cofer didn’t wake up the Demon King would soon come to claim his body and that wasn’t ideal for them or Cofer.
“How are you feeling?” Koolas asked once he realized Cofer still looked dazed.
“I don’t know. How long have I been asleep?” He asked, confusedly.
“It’s been 72 human hours.”
“I got to go!” Cofer jumped to his feet and gargoyles started to spin and fade.
“Hold on Cofer! You need to let the serum that we gave you run its course. Just a couple more hours. Soon it will be evening in the human world. I would ask for you to stay longer but the rain comes next week and you don’t want to be traveling when that starts.
Cofer’s hands trembled. His thirst for blood was almost intolerable.
“We prepared a special cocktail to assist with your run back.” Mataug handed Cofer a large wooden jug. “It’s a special blend of gargoyle blood and wine. Sip it slowly. We don’t need you losing your s**t before you leave the village” Koolas laughed heartily.
He started to drink the mixture. His eyes rolled back. The taste was a close runner up to s*x. He wanted to savor every drop. If he could take some home and drink it off of Josey’s body he was sure he would drown in ecstasy.
Soon the jug was empty and his belly full. He was revived body and soul. He almost felt like exiting the dimension and transporting to the Demon King's castle. He could probably kill most of the general and injure his father. That thought was tempting but he needed to take all his fire back to his wife. He said his goodbyes and the gargoyles thanked him profusely for helping them get home.
Cofer set out on his journey home. He was sure he could get to the riff in four days. If he’d forgo sleep. He didn’t want to close his eyes one more time in his father's dominion.

It had been 3 days since Josey heard Cofer’s voice in her dreams. His voice echoed in her heart and mind. She kept whispering to herself, “If he’d just come home.” She had spent several of her off days crying again but she had to move forward. She didn’t go to work that morning but she was heading in that evening. They were having a party to celebrate a successful first two weeks. All products had been delivered and installed in eastern Wilshana. They were leaving the next day for a two week trip around Western Wilshana.
Josey gathered herself and her spirits and left for the party. She floated through her bedroom door and the twins fell in line. When Josey walked into the dining hall her teammates were sitting around a table full of food with Valin sitting at the head. Fedri stood up and pulled Josey's chair from the table. The twins watched his every move. Fedri quickly made his way back to his chair, while keeping his eye down.
Valin stood up and made a speech about how they were quickly moving Wilshana into the present. They had been living in the past and Josey and her team had rallied them to the beginning of the forefront. He held his wine glass and said “Here's to our continued success!” Everyone raised their wine glasses. Music started to play and they sip their wine. After eating and talking. Valin asked everyone to join him in the garden.
When Josey stood up and started to float toward the garden area Fedri joined her.
“It’s a beautiful night. Did you decide on a name for your baby? Wait..Am I allowed to ask? If not I’m sooo sorry.” Fedri spoke fast and nervously.
He was cute and bold.
“It is a beautiful night and I’m feeling a little laxed on the rules.” Josey giggled. She may have had one too many glasses of wine.
“That’s good to hear. God, you are beautiful. The moon, these clear skies, can not compare.”
“I didn’t know you were such a smooth talker.” Josey felt herself blushing. She touched her palm to her cheek, maybe it was the wine combined with not having s*x for more than two weeks.
Before she could respond Valin interrupted. “Queen Sueli, can I chat with you?”
“Sure. Fedri we can chat again later.” Fedri smiled and nodded then continued to stand and watch her float away with the king.
Valin felt like sneering at Fedri. It took all of his might to keep a smile on his face. When they separated from the group, they sat on a bench that seemed to bathe in the moonlight.
Valin asked her about her week off and told her about some small chaotic events that ensued. Then he leaned forward. Josey and Sueli could feel his love fading. “But why?” Sueli whispered.
“Valin, you seem different. I know we haven’t been around each other for that long but I feel something changing within you.” Josey looked downward. She couldn’t believe she had said that. She was terrified of his response.
“Honestly Queen Sueli. I feel like I don’t want to ever love again.”
