Threats

1006 Words
The interrogation was silent for a moment but Ethan seemed to be intrigued and at the same time, shocked that she would say something like that. “Are police officers allowed to strike deals with offenders?” Ethan asked with raised brows as he folded his arms. “Well, we can. As long as the offender is innocent. In this case, you are.” She said but Ethan could see the skepticism in her eyes. “Then why am I here? I could sue the force for locking me here without evidence. You wouldn't want me to do that, right?” Ethan asked, a little threat laced in his voice. Of course, he wasn't going to do that, he was just subtly letting her know that she should tread carefully. With or without her deal, he could be out of there. “Yes, I know and that is why I want to make a deal with you. “ She replied, with a knowing look and Ethan nodded, pleased that she was a quick one. “So, spill your terms.” He uttered. At his words, Erin looked tense as she tapped her fingers on her thighs. She didn't know how he was going to take her terms as he had the upper hand. “I will need your help in some raids.” She spoke up and Ethan raised his brow at him. “We need a competent person like yourself in our wing and I am not willing to let you pass by.” She explained further. “Raids? Raiding where exactly?” Ethan asked. He wasn't a fool to think that the raids were just simple raids. “Uhm, maybe the mafia. Drug lords and serious offenders.” She looked away from him for a second as she said that but as she looked at Ethan, he burst into a peal of hilarious laughter. Erin frowned as she didn't like that reaction, they were discussing something serious. “Why are you laughing?” She asked as his laughter came to an end. “You think I will go out there and throw my life away?” He asked with raised brows. “And for what? Dishonest police officers?” He added. “Don’t insult the police force!” Erin almost yelled at him but she controlled herself by pointing a finger at him. “What? Do you think you are all trustworthy? Is this not a perfect example of how dishonest you all are?” Ethan asked with a devious smirk on his face. “I am…” Erin wanted to speak up but he cut her off. “If you have a better deal, you can let me know,” Ethan said with a firm voice. “Think of it like you are helping the masses. Those affected by the crimes being committed.” Erin tried to persuade him. Her words were moving and Ethan saw no reason why he shouldn't accept. That was a noble cause. “I do not see why I should be the noble one here. If you are trying to guilt-trip me into doing that, then drop it. I have seen enough cruelty from ordinary people to know that they don’t deserve any noble act from me.” Ethan said, with a cold tone as he thought back to the years of torture he endured as one of the poorest. His voice was firm as he ended the conversation and he gave no room for negotiations. Erin was deflated and she stood up, seeing that she couldn't persuade him. She walked to the door and Ethan expected her to get but instead, she locked the door and turned to look at him with a wicked gaze in her eyes. “So you think you can get out of here?” She asked. “Why not?” Ethan asked back with a shrug of his shoulders. “Since you do not want to agree to my terms, I will have to be the most dishonest cop you have ever met. I will put you in prison just like Ray Bastien wants.” She muttered, but he could still hear her. The gaze in her eyes turned intense. “Seriously? Are you threatening me?” Ethan asked with raised brows. “You can't just throw me in prison for beating up a few people. Do you have a loose screw in your head?” He mocked, not feeling slightly scared about her words. “What do you think? Do you think it will be better if I incriminate you myself? There are a few unsolved cases and I could just plant the evidence myself. And then off you go to prison.” She threatened and then winked at him. At this point, Ethan knew things were turning really serious. “With just a call, I have got people who would help me...” She continued but Ethan cut her off. “Alright.” He spoke up. She was a psycho and it was obvious she would do as she said. Ethan knew that even if he had some money, he didn't have connections to get him out, so he had to agree to her deal. Immediately he said those words, a smile bloomed on her face. “I’ll get your bail papers ready then.” She clapped her hands like a little girl while she ran toward the door. At the same time, the system’s voice resounded in his head. [ Congratulations! Task completed! You have been rewarded with a new fighting skill!
