CHAPTER 2

AMBER It was just like yesterday, watching death capture my mother in its cold hands. The news sent shivers down my spine "No!!!!" I screamed. "Mother!!!" I cried out as I stare at her dead body on the floor. How did this happen? We were just together some hours before then. News was.. she suddenly fell flat to the floor and stopped breathing. It was as though everything had ended for me. I stare into the air as I thought about all she had ever been to me. I felt his warm hands on my shoulder as I sat, deep in thought. "How long are you going to keep being like this?" the cool voice of Kane Bellack rented my ears. My only friend since I lost my mother. "For as long as I should be, Kane. Would this have been the case if I had a wolf… If I had a father who would treat me like his blood?" I lamented. He held my hands and smiled, his brown eyes burrowing into my soul as he stared at me. "That is why you have me here, Amber. I want to be your inner person. The one you talk to and share everything with you. I want to be all that if you give me the chance," he said in a soft tone. "The whole pack hates me, Kane. I don't feel safe here. The Alpha never regard me as his daughter? Is this how I would continue? Uhn, tell me!" "Is this why you want to think yourself to death? To drown yourself in thoughts out of frustration?" He protested. "Maybe it's best I die. Perhaps, everyone would be relieved. They call me an abomination, maybe I should leave then so they can free from the curse of my existence.." I lashed out. "What then is your happiness? And your mother who is with the Moon Goddess now, will be proud of you?! I doubt it." "You are the Alpha's daughter whether anyone agrees to it or not, alright?" He poked my nose playfully. I sighed. "Where have you been all my life?" I uttered. He snapped one of the branches underneath the tree in the woods where we sat. "Right where I need to be. The Goddess has planned it this way or don't you believe in fate?" He said as he cut out the leaves and decorated them on my hair. "You just have a way of calming me," I commented. He leaned towards me and his soft lips almost made contact with mine when we heard footsteps from behind. "What is it, Aaron?" Kane spoke out. "Kane, your father is calling for you..The Elders seeks your presence in their meetings," He said. "Uhn?" "Is everything fine?" I asked when I noticed the conuntenace that fell on his face. "I wouldn't know but don't worry, I'd be back to be with you.." he assured me. "But what if…" "Shhh…no what ifs..Just stay right here, I'd be back for you," he reiterated. KANE My wolf shrieked from within. "I don't feel good about this," I whispered to my wolf as I walked with Aaron. "Why do you think father and his colleagues wants to see me?" I turned to Aaron. "I have no idea, Kane. My job is to watch over you. I do not hear or see anything lest it has to do with you, sire," he responded. "Geez..always too formal," I banged my forehead with my hands. We got out of the woods and headed straight to the Mini Hall where the Elders held their council meeting. "I'm with you.." my wolf suddenly spoke. "Kane…your father is a respectable Elder in the pack and I believe you know how much regard we have for him," Elder Jonas spoke in a loud tone as I stood before them. "What is this about?" My eyes darted towards my father, ignoring the laudable comments of Jonas. "You stay there and hear him out," my father cautioned. "A case has been brought before us and it involves you, Kane," Elder Jonas continued. "Me??" My eyes widened in surprise. "What did we do?" I whispered to my wolf. "There have been talks around, Kane, that you now find solace in doing the wrong things and associating with the wrong set of people.." "Uhn?" I smirked. "Amber Stark..the girl who calls herself the Alpha's daughter," Elder Jonas interrupted. "She is the Alpha's daughter," I objected…"...and this is about her? She is the wrong set of persons you are referring to??!" "Father, can you hear this?" I said to my father who looked away the minute I spoke. "Oooh..I see…he is in on this too," I mumbled. "You can't be seen with her. That girl is a curse and as the Elder son, a high ranked one at that, you shouldn't be seen with such a girl. She is a cursed fellow.." My wolf was angered. "Don't call her that!!" I lashed out. "She is my friend. Infact, the only friend I have in the pack. Why do you have a problem with that?" "Even her father knows she is not a force to reckoned with!" My father suddenly voiced out. Unbelievable. "I can't be a party to this.." I stormed out of the hall and ran to the woods immediately. *** I stood from a distance and looked at Amber as she sat pretty under the shade exactly where I left her. I tiptoed behind her and covered her eyes with my hands. "Hmmm…" she sniffed the air. "You know the tuberose scent of your body would always give you off, Kane," she whispered. "Hey! How do you always know that?" "You sure there isn't an animal inside her telling you of scents?" She smiled. I placed my hands on her face and I winked at her. Her radiant smile was always a bliss, even to my wolf. No Aaron this time around…I leaned towards her and gave her a kiss. My wolf purred from within. "Mate."
