Seeing is Believing
Denis Karburn was the new history teacher for Mildwich Elementary school. He was quite young, around twenty five, blue eyes and brown hair. He knew quite a bit about Mildwich and its past, but not all. Mildwich had been destroyed by a bomb launched by the enemy nation. It was his first lesson with class 7-3. He entered the class with a pinched smile, clearly nervous. After-all, this class was "special", excluding the fact that they were in the gifted group. The students were emotionless, staring at their new teacher. This was a sign for Denis to get started, "Okay class! I'm your new teacher", he said "And as you know I will be teaching you History". He paused and looked around the class. The children only stared back. "well, let's begin with names",he said eagerly and then pointed at a boy sitting in front, "You there, lad. What's your name?". The boy looked up and said his name in a quite monotone. This was strange for Denis because he was used to mischievous kids. The class was finally over. Even Denis found it long, with no disruptions or comic relief. These kids are really dull, he thought to himself. It was recess so Denis decided to go out and see what the kids were up to. The weather had gotten dark as if it would rain any moment. The children had the same mood, they stood around doing nothing. "These kids are defiantly not normal", Denis said out loud. Two years had passed just like this and Denis almost missed the old boisterous class he taught. Today's lesson consisted of the event when the bomb hit the school nine years ago. "It did hurt like hell", Amanda, a slightly talkative girl stated. Denis gave her a strange look and said " It might have". The other students glared at her to which she said "what? it did hurt remember",she asked the others. Denis asked whilst chuckling " You mean to say you were there?" "um, yes" she replied uncertainly. " I cant believe that" he said shaking his head " Your all too young". " Dead people don't age,Sir",Zoe the girl that rarely talked, said gloomily. This was slightly surprising for him. All of a sudden the ground shook as if an earthquake tremor occurred. The ceiling detached and flew up revealing the dark sky,the air gushed in blowing books and paper everywhere. The walls started crumbling from the top and the bottom started turning red, blood red. All the desks got rusted and some broke. Denis fell to the ground scared for his life. The students were in front of him all calm. " Wake up, Sir", they all chanted in unison. "What? What's going on?", he screamed shocked. He was pale as the pages surrounding him. The students eyes were gone, only black sockets were left. Some started coughing up blood and others lost limbs. " You've been here too long.", they said, "WAKE UP!" Denis woke up. Breathing heavily, he glanced around his location. He wasn't in school but in hospital. "Sir, are you okay?", a nurse asked him. "What? What happened?", he asked her. The nurse started explaining everything, saying that he was in a plane entering the country when the bomb dropped. The plane had to do an emergency landing, however, it was a little too late. The plane crashed putting him in a coma for nearly ten years. The nurse showed him a file containing accounts of people and casualties. He recognized twelve students, his students. They all had died painful deaths, some remained stuck in rubble for weeks and starved to death. "sir what happened? did you see something?", the nurse questioned. " You wouldn't believe me, it was that real",Denis sighed.
