Chapter 8

1102 Words
AMORA'S POV “Because someone sent pictures of you in a bar!” Absolute silence resonated in the room, I stared at him like he just grew two extra heads while he kept glaring at me. I burst into laughter suddenly, covering my mouth with the back of my hand. That has to be the funniest joke I've heard in days. A hand wrapped around my throat effectively stopped the laughter, I started coughing instead. “Do you think this is some sick joke? You think my reputation is a joke? Do you know the kind of damage you've caused? The whole internet is buzzing with the news!” He growled into my face, my legs were suspended in the air. My hand clawed at his in desperation to get free from his hold. I coughed incessantly, my throat was once again clogged up and it was really hard to get any air into it. “It's… fake.” I forced the words out, still clawing at his hand. “Stop lying, you pathetic destroyer!” He yelled into my face. Tears started streaming down my face, I felt my eyes starting to get dizzy. "I'm not…" The words escaped my clogged up throat. I couldn't see through my eyes anymore, I started feeling light headed soon enough. I saw black dots appear in my vision, my hands started going frail. Just before I fell into unconsciousness, I felt Evan release his hold on me a little bit, his phone was ringing. “What do you mean by it was a mixup?" Then my eyes closed eventually. ~ An annoying beeping sound woke me up from sleep, I groaned out in annoyance, but oh boy, I shouldn't have done that. My throat felt like it was on fire with how much it hurts, it felt like pouring hot lava on an injury. “You’re awake.” I opened my eyes to white walls and ceiling. I could barely move my neck too because it hurts so much. “Who's that?" I asked because I couldn't see who it was, my neck didn't let me. I heard quiet footsteps come in my line of sight. On seeing who it was, a loud scream tore out of my throat. The events that played up to me getting here reappeared in my head; how he restricted my airflow till I passed out and the words he said. “Look, I apologize for doing that to you. I was foolish to have followed what was in the news without even hearing from you.” He said. That didn't ebb the fear I felt on seeing him, it only made me want to see him less. I knew we weren't on the best of terms, but it never crossed my mind that he'd do something like that to me. I could have died! “Are you even listening to me?” His voice came again. "Leave… me." Those two words felt like they'd tear my throat apart. “You want me to leave you alone?" He asked again. Gosh! Can he just leave me alone already? His voice gives me goosebumps. “I want you to know that I'm sorry for accusing you wrongly and treating you that way.” I felt like throwing him something or smacking him across the face if I could. The door opened and closed, letting the tears fall freely down my face. I haven't even gotten over what happened days ago when he took me for my sister and now this happened. If this is how it's going to be forever, I don't think I have the energy to continue this. I heard the door open again and I gasped, thinking it was Evan again but he wasn't the one, it was the doctor. “Good evening Mrs Kingston. I'm here to check your neck and throat. Can you make any sound?” I couldn't even see who was talking but it's surely a woman. I tilted my head a little bit to signal ‘no’. She soon came into my line of sight, she's a really young woman. “Alright, just stay still. I'll check how severe it has gotten now. I was told that you were attacked on your way home this evening, did you get to see their faces?” She sure talks a lot for a doctor. I didn't reply to her, what was I even supposed to say? I know Evan would never say the truth, he'd never let anyone know he did this to his ‘wife’. The doctor came to my side of the bed and started checking my neck first. I winced as she placed her hand on my neck. She probed it with something, nodding her head frequently “I've gotten what the problem is. I'll just prescribe some ointments you'd be using since you can't swallow any medicine yet.” She said, scribbling down something on her notepad. “Though I've told your husband this, you can't take any solid food yet, only watery things.” I didn't say a word to anything she said. I badly want to be anywhere else than this city at all, nowhere here feels like home. “You're discharged, your husband will come get you now." That was when I made a sound, like a grunt that had her look at me with concern. “Is anything the problem?” No response. "Well then, your husband will be here soon." I actually feel bad for not responding to her all through after she left me alone. It's not my fault though, I can barely even move my head. The door opened again, this time the least person I wanted to see came in. “Are you ready to leave?” He asked the moment he got into the room. He should know by now that I wouldn't reply to him. I continued staring at the ceiling like it was an interesting sight. “I'll just lift you up then." What he just said made me look at his direction even though it hurts like a b*tch. "What? Can you walk on your own? If you can, it's fine then.” I made an attempt to get off the bed but I fell back down immediately. The cramps from this morning were still there and my stomach hurts too, maybe out of hunger. I glared at Evan accusingly, I wouldn't be able to eat properly again now because of him. He gave me a questioning look before he bent down to lift me in his arms.
