Elizabeth was finally outside of the campus of her new college and her new home at the same time, and to say she was intimidated was understandable enough, since, compared to her old college, it looked like an entire city, and for the first time she allowed herself to wonder if transferring there for her senior year was really that wise of a decision. But she shook that idea out of her head immediately, wanting nothing but to regret this. Besides, this was what she wanted, and most importantly what she needed. A new home, a new college, new people. There would be no more irresponsible parents, no more fake friends, no more toxic boyfriend. There was only Elizabeth and the world, and she'd make the best out of it.  The way to the secretary wasn't that easy to be found, but after she did it and after showing her every transferring document and every other procedure that came with questions and answers, she had finally found herself someplace as a student in this college and also — thank God — some room in the campus to live to. After her parents cut her off completely because of this decision, she couldn't afford a house for herself, but thankfully having some savings from her part time job back in her hometown, the only thing she needed was a part time job here and... boom, everything would be perfect. But first thing first, she had to find the way to the dormitory. Room number 246, was written in the key the secretary gave her. The only information she had was that she'd have to share the room with two other girls and deep down, she was hoping they hadn't come yet so she could have some time for herself to settle down and reflect where her life would go to from now on. But as soon as she opened the door, the view in front of her made her freeze; two girls making out intensely, as if there was no tomorrow. They separated from each other as soon as they felt someone's eyes into them, and by the looks in their faces they were so ready to throw things at the one ruining their oh-so-passionate moment. "You have such terrible timing!" The gorgeous black girl with green dyed hair shouted, completely annoyed, but the blonde one tried to give Elizabeth a welcome smile instead, even though it was obvious even she wanted to continue where she left instead of trying to be nice to a stranger who had ruined their long-awaited reunion.  "You're the new girl, right?" She asked, trying to sound as nice as she could and for Elizabeth, that sounded extremely nicer than she had expected. "Obviously Mia, she has the key," the other one complained, even more annoyed and Elizabeth couldn't help but feel a little bit embarrassed. "I'm sorry," was the only thing she was able to say as the awkwardness didn't seem to leave the room one bit. Could somebody tell her why did they put me in a room with a couple? She knew third wheeling was kind of her thing, but not to this point. And she felt like she couldn't even blame the girl for being obviously annoyed, it didn't seem fun to live with a stranger instead of being only in your lover's company. "It's okay, it's not your fault," the blonde girl smiled again. "I'm Mia as you heard, and she's Amber, my girlfriend. This is your bed, your closet, and your corner of the room. I know it isn't big and we have to share one bathroom but we'll get used to it," she explained everything and got up to help Elizabeth with her two big suitcases, an act that this last one really appreciated. "I'm Elizabeth, but you can call me Liz," she responded to her warm welcome, feeling a lot more comfortable, somehow knowing they'd get along just fine, but in the other hand she wasn't that sure about Amber. "If I knew you were together I'd ask for another room," she explained herself. "Actually, I think I'm gonna go and do this right now." "Don't waste your time, sweetheart, they didn't listen to us so certainly they won't listen to a transferred student," Amber responded and it actually made a lot of sense. Elizabeth could do nothing but feel bad about all this misunderstanding. In no way she wanted to keep them from being happily together, but at least she'd have to spend the afternoon working and the girls would be left alone. Extremely tired from the six hours long trip, she went to take a shower. Warm water always did magic to her bones and sore muscles and when she went out she was feeling like a new person. Things went surprisingly smooth with Elizabeth's new roommates, the three girls found themselves talking comfortably about a lot of things and it felt like they knew each other already. Mia's major was the same as Elizabeth's, english literature, meanwhile Amber was majoring in social media. It didn't took long for Elizabeth to realize how interesting, funny and kind both her new friends were, she couldn't help but feel lucky to have known them. "What job are you searching for, Liz?" Mia asked curiously, as Elizabeth had already found out Mia was working as a babysitter and Amber in a shopping center.  "I've worked as a bartender for the past two years so I think I'm gonna stick with it," she responded. "I don't know how much we'll succeed in finding you a job but it's first thing in the morning," Amber declared with that strong and almost authoritative tone of hers, making her regret thinking they wouldn't get along in the beginning.  "I know you're tired but we're going to a party tonight. Will you come?" Mia with her usual soft smile in her face said, and Elizabeth wasn't in a mood for a party tonight, but she was here for a fresh start, right? And she wouldn't get one by locking herself in her new room, that was for certain. Since the weather was still nice — as nice as the New York weather in October can be — she decided to go with a simple tight off-shoulders black shirt, a high-waisted short red skirt, an oversized jacket and her usual black boots, but of course she couldn't forget her red lipstick. The two other girls thought it was an extra for the party but little did they know it was an everyday look for Elizabeth. Actually, it was even more than this. It was a part of her personality, an part of her growth and confidence in herself. Besides, who could tell it didn't look perfect on her, anyway? However, Mia was the most girlish type, her wardrobe was filled with cute floral pastel pieces while Amber was the opposite of her, a black-and-neon type of girl.  Elizabeth was growing to like them both, how much they contrasted each other, but as they say, opposites attract and they were the best example of this. And most importantly, different from Elizabeth and her ex-boyfriend, they seemed to bring out the best of each other. They walked for only around ten minutes before reaching a pretty high building, loud music coming from the underground floors. As they walked in, showing the owner their fake IDs since for a matter of fact none of them was twenty-one yet, they saw that the party was overpopulated with people who were dancing, drinking, laughing and making out intensely, something raw for Liz's quiet hometown but usual for New York, of course. The three pretty ladies soon enough joined a group of their friends who were waiting for them and surprisingly for Elizabeth, they had such a great time. For the first time, she completely forgot everything she left behind, leaving the music and the countless shots of vodka to do their job. After all, she was young and beautiful. Life was good, wasn't it?
