Prologue
Martha and James have been married for 40 years and have children named Jameson, Martin, and Jane. All of their children have their own families, living far away from their parents. The only time they can gather together is during the holidays.
Holidays, especially Christmas and New Year’s, are the holidays that James and Martha look forward to every year. It’s the only time of the year when their quiet and peaceful life far from the city is disturbed. Despite the chaos their grandchildren cause, they are happy dealing with their noisy and troublemaking grandchildren.
When the holidays are over, their quiet and peaceful life comes back. They drink coffee together every morning while sitting outside their house, watching as the sun rises, eat breakfast together while chatting about random things they could think of, and every night before they sleep, they reminisce about everything they did in the past, reliving those moments.
James and Martha are the definition of what true love really looks like. They loved each other for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish.
The night before their anniversary arrived, James was planning a simple dinner date with his beloved wife in their front yard. For this to happen, James needed time to prepare. James drank all the milk in their fridge, ate the vegetables raw, which made him throw up when he tried to eat the ampalaya, and threw everything he didn’t drink or eat.
“ Martha, we need groceries! Our fridge is empty, " James shouted as he threw the butter out of the window. Martha went to the kitchen, James was standing there, next to the fridge, and he opened it. " See…. empty," he said.
Martha froze as she saw the fridge truly empty. Martha smiled and said, “ Guess that’s why you’re fat my love. ”
James did not say a word to Martha, which she interpreted as that James agrees he was fat and it made Martha laugh. Martha turned around and walked away from the kitchen saying she'd get changed and buy her groceries.
“ Thanks My Love. “ James said as Martha was leaving the kitchen, “ Love you, “ he added.
When Martha had left their house, James began preparing. He put the food he had ordered and hid earlier in the microwave, heating it. Then he sets up the table and the lights in their front yard, and takes a shower, playing his favorite song “ Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears.
Everything was already set up, but then James realized that it was still too early, and the food would get cold, so he kept reheating again and again. He looked at the clock; it was still 2 in the afternoon. “ Well, I guess it’s time for afternoon TV, not dinner,“ he said as he left the kitchen with the food he had reheated until it was as dry as paper.
